so, the worms community obviously has a long history of saying "team17...wouldnt it be sweet if _____"
hard to not think that way for this game either. as for me, the thing i'd most like to see in a future version of openwarfare? cross-platform play! i have no idea what legal or other red tape that would require getting around...but man wouldn't it be cool if DS and PSP people could play together?
ah well...

Yeah, that one's a pipe dream. The hardware is completely different, as is the game engine and the wi-fi infrastructure (not to mention the rules governing said infrastructure).
Personally, I just hope another sequel can come out that fixes some of the minor annoyances in this version (I'll be talking DS here):
- Allow d-pad use in the flag editor and map editor
- More save space for friends and rivals (perhaps 64 of each, rather than 64 combined), plus a block list of about the same size
- Fix minor glitches (the rare crashes and somewhat less rare sound bugs that occur on theme-specific events)
- Match setup for random matches BEFORE searching (this would make it closer to playing a hosted game, and would still make it easy to find people during slow times - just choose ANY for everything), preferably all on one screen (with ANY as the default).
- Fix the broken shopper scheme and disable Full Wormage in ranked play
- Some control over team sizes, at least in custom play (it's fine if teams are limited to four, so long as you can opt for fewer than four).
- Some kind of aiming reticle on the map view screen to make aiming a little easier and to simulate zooming out.
- Bigger ROM size for better quality FMV, more voices, more themes, etc. :)

Maybe I'm just lucky but I've never had the game crash during flak. I did manage to get two worms stuck so they just kept on making the ouch sound, only ever happened once, very rare. I wonder if some problems are only because people are running unauthorised copies.
i'd say this game is pretty much what i could ever want from a worms game, anthing suggested are just minor things which is just nit-picking.
But the ability to create your own voice banks one day would be awesome i think, in my case i find accents quite easy to vocalise so recording wouldn't be a problem. However obviously a profanity filter would definetly be needed here and am not sure the tech. is available for this.

for ds/psp, most likely. they can make the engines synchronizable, but that would come at a hit to psp version's quality. at least, i believe, the terrain resolution would have to be decreased on psp.
in general, however, it is entirely possible to build two very different engines on two very different platforms, and yet have them synchronize with each other. so something like w:xbla could be synched with a pc version of the game, if that ever comes out. in fact, if the later runs through microsoft's arcade for windows, microsoft might even let that happen.

Oh, that could very well be. I had it happen about three times, and only in the first couple weeks of having the game. Maybe a higher proportion of people online now are those who actually bought the game.
