View Full Version : WA in Vista, no go :(

I am trying to get WA up and running for a friend. He has the legal discs that came in a sort of Worms party deal where he got WA, W2 and WWP all together.

He installed the game, set up his worms the way he wanted and then tried to play a game. It crashed and he then contacted me.

Using logmein, I'm checking everything. This is on a Dell Vista laptop with a Radeon X1400 video card.

Here is what we've done to try and solve the problem.
- Changed compat mode to 98/ME
- Running the game as admin
- Downloaded and installed the latest WA updated (3.6.28.0)
- Included the /nointro (outside of quotes) in the target.

It is simply crashing back to the desktop every time. This is the error log we're getting.

We need some help. This man is a dedicated wormer and this is simply unacceptable! Worms live as long as my pal cannot get this working on Vista.

Did you try rebooting?

Other people that experienced the same bug had it go away after a while. We don't know the exact cause of the bug, since we can't reproduce it.

Yeah, I've rebooted several times, even uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

Let me ask you this. I've updated to the beta patch, but I see mention of a 3.0 UK only patch. Is there anything I need to look for between my base cd install (of which I have no clue what version it is) and the 3.6.28.0 beta patch? Could I be missing something there?

Nope, the latest beta update is all you should need.

Are you saying WA WILL work with Vista? If so, I'm going to put it back on my computer and return for more online fun! (Are there many who still play it online?)

Muzer: Read the first post :p

The_Wippuh states they have a Radeon X1400

Oh yeah :o

In that case, do you have the latest drivers, non-beta if possible?

He'll have the drivers that came with the system, the ones provided by Dell. However, they're fairly new as this laptop is only about 5 or 6 months old. I plan on updating the drivers as soon as I can get the laptop in my hands and get the service code (seems like the Dell systems go flaky if you use the official drivers and not the ones listed on their support pages).

Integrated, nVidia Go 7400 (Dedicated)

That's straight from the review site for my laptop. Thanks!

As long as you install the latest drivers, non-beta if possible, it should be fine, I think. Best wait for someone to confirm that, I think.
