I am curious about this for very secret reasons.

Retro purple - got to be done the classic way :D
So much nicer and "less bright" than the vBulletin standard. Sel did a great job emulating it from APJs original vB2 design.

And you have me to thank for the fluid skins - I kept bugging Sel about how space inefficient the fixed skin was and he gave in and made a fluid one :p

I use the Retro Purple Fixed skin.
I don't like either fixed versions. I can't stand the whole modern thing about making your site fit on a thin cell in the middle of the page. Mah forum goes as wide as my screen lets it!
Having it centered also increases the rate at which you have to scroll since it forces texts to brake line much more often.

Retro Purple Fixed.
I don't like it when it's as wide as my screen, looks too large. I like it centered in the screen, like a nice, small book. :)

Plasma, what are you talking about? The T17 skin is a hell of a lot brighter than the much darker blues and purples of the RP skin. How do dark colours make your eyes hurt more than bright ones?
For the record, one of the reasons I like RP is because it's much kinder to the eyes.

I think everyone loves Retro Purple Fluid because it's cool:cool:
retro purple isn;t cool, it's WEIRD! its OLD... it doesnt suit its name. "Purple" ...
...You're familiar with the word "retro," yes?
If I could hug Retro Purple, I would. It's like the good old days, except a lot dumber.
...I think. I was pretty dumb myself.
Retro purple fluid.
Does anyone actually miss the grey style in between the original purple and the vBulletin default? (Yes, the vB default came before the retro style.)
This (http://web.archive.org/web/20040510125000/http://forum.team17.co.uk/) is from around the time when I joined. Ahh, nostalgia. Incidently, I don't remember the ugly green bar at the top, although I do remember the blue one from the winter.
BTW, I don't actually like the style, just wonderin' if anyone else did.
EDIT: On a vaguely related note, this (http://web.archive.org/web/20010801142519/http://forum.team17.co.uk/) is the earliest archive of the site, with just one broken image, amazingly (archive.org is infamously known, at least to me, for poorly archiving images; in all later archive up until mid-'02 the T17 logo is broken). The new RP stle looks so similar to this, if the T17 logo and post icons were the same, I would swear that it looked like someone had hacked the forum, deleted the posts except a few, and some of the forums, but kept the style.

Retro Purple is one of the nicest forum colour schemes I've ever seen.
So I decided to vote for the default in the poll up there because I wasn't paying attention and now I look like a traitor. Ooopps.
Heh, I noticed that bright text is quite visible on Retro Purple. Not on default where you have to pay attention to notice something in bright.
Which totally sucks because bright messages are supposed to be semi secret

Retro Purple Fluid, but I've always hated how the posts don't slot together (there's a gap in between each one). It just doesn't look right - before one of the vB updates, one post joined onto the next with alternating colours. Oh, those were the days...
Hmm, was that this forum that used to put a slightly darker shade of blue as background color on every-other post?

Bear in mind that the original job of bright was for highlighting purposes in the way that highlight is now. It was only after the switch to a white background that it lost its original function and became a "hidden message" thing.

Yea, I was going to mention that too, they did the same sort of job as bright does now.
They haven't worked for years though.
SomePerson
26 Aug 2007, 18:21
Oh, but it was so much better! It was a kind of grey that make it less noticeable, and thus more of a sidenote, but it was still easy to read.
Now the bright tag stands out like crazy but is very hard to read...
Note text was also slightly smaller. We also had a [small] tag if I'm not going crazy which made text the size of note without changing the colour.

You do realise T17 default is actually vBulletin default with practically no modifications - so its what almost every vB forum uses when they can't be bothered to create a skin. Plus, the buttons (New thread, edit, quote, etc) are too big and ugly on the default vB skin. I much prefer the vB2 buttons used on the retro purple skin.
And Retro Purple does show if someone is online/offline. Right next to the report button.
