You need a better reason to ban someone than "I don't like him", you know.

he's a backseat mod, incredibly unfunny, annoying, and just generally an all-around príck
he rarely if ever contributes anything valuable or interesting to the discussion but still thinks he's hot shít

He could be put on Tachy Goes To Coventry then everyone will not be able to see his posts, but he won't know and he'll go on thinking he's teh money.
Genius group, that.
And yes, Plasma does have all the necessary skills to make me want to slap him sometimes, now that you mention it.

Voting for this instead of ban because I don't think he breaks any rules but he's really incredibly obnoxious.

I went to Coventry once. Well, it was the University of Warwick (not actually in Warwick)'s open day.

Please report incidences of backseat moderation - the mods hate that more than spamming and we tend to throw more infraction points at it because of that. Who knows, in just two posts he could be temp. banned?
Now I feel rather stupid for not having noticed anything, at first I thought this thread was a joke. I'm not very observant I suppose..

Isn't "please ban this person on the forum who is a backseat mod" a form of backseat modding?
Not that I disagree with you, of course. Plasma needs to be expunged from the forum; his account deleted, his username blocked and his posts destroyed so as not to negatively impact the development of human intellect from this point in history onwards.

I would volunteer to edit every single post made by Plasma and enter "deleted to save future human intellect".
That would mean that I need user mod rights first though. ;)

no, backseat modding is telling other users what to do and how they are breaking the rules
whining about people on the internet behind their backs is completely different (and arguably more fun)

A while ago I put up a tiny website that just said "TRIPPENZ IS A MORON" so I could replace his wa-ce links with it (this was before he went to Coventry). If he ever Googles his own online handle, I suspect he may change it soon.
This page is not affiliated with Team17 and does not claim to represent their views.
Nice one Andrew. Now he will not be able to doubt that the page is about him if he finds it.

Yeah, we've got a bit of a problem. He hasn't specifically broken any of the "written rules" of the forum which could easily get him banned (and he's smarter than trippenz, so we can't trap him into getting banned). So, it would be a bit unfair to ban him just because a few people don't like him.
Anyway, wasn't there a move a while back to give him access to OD?

Anyway, wasn't there a move a while back to give him access to OD?If that happened I would permamently leave the forum, "you'll never leave" be damned! I'm pretty sure the closest we've come was to suggest Akuryou and Iguana, and they still don't compare to Plasma.

Well, it turns out Plasma has actually broken a forum rule, but only one to get him a month of Being Watched.
Still, he's 5 points off being Banned for a short period.

How long has Plasma been a member?
Not sure. I can't tell either, since I don't have access to that area in the mod/adminCP.
Edit: His userID is 22847 (newest member is in the 71000s), and yours, Xinos, is 4380, so I'd say he's only been a member for a few years.
I've been here 6 years

AFter I avised him to fall in a well and die, Plasma sent me this PM:
Plasma, I and the other forum-goers invite you to fall in a well, and die. In that order.
Can you please cut down on telling me to kill myself? My grandfather died two days ago, and... yeah.
I would have responded:
I'm sorry to hear that.
Obviously if I had known I would have thrown some other offensive term at you, such as "Please fall fall in a well and live a long and fruitful life in its depths, surviving off of rat carcasses and a slow and study trickle of water dribbling from one of the rocks at the base," or "Please avoid the well, because you might fall down it, but do get mauled by a bear instead, but not life-threateningly so. Just enough to put you in the hospital, where you'll contract the MRA Superbug and become very ill."
I really am sorry to hear about your grandfather. However, you are still an idiot and a charlatan.
Which is perhaps a little harsh, but the guy is an idiot and a charlatan. In any case, he's not receiving PMs so I couldn't send it.

That sig was there before the Being Watched status went on.
Ok, when a loved one dies... acting a little 'off' or angry at everything isn't unreasonable. But he's always been a complete dick. Even though he is currently going though a tough time, it's no excuse for how he's acted in the past.
So yeah, I can see going easy on him for a little bit because of this... but really, he's just using this an excuse. Thats kinda messed up. Really.
Has he actually used it as an excuse or are you just assuming he will?
Don't know. But then again most of what I say now doesn't really matter. I'm literally half awake.
Looking back at it now, I guess he hasn't used it as an excuse. For some reason it just came off like he did or something. blah. Nap time.
I've disliked him from the beginning, when he was making his Worms game clone with Gamemaker, calling it "programming".
He was constantly criticising every other fan game, although he never accomplished anything more than a crappy, hardly working demo.

His idea wasn't that bad, but he really had no right to boast about it in that thread..I'm sorry, but that's the silliest research tree I've ever seen, no matter what context his ficitonal game will put it in. For example, you can increase vehicle firepower without having vehicles.
FutureWorm
22 Aug 2007, 03:38
admittedly some of it doesn't make sense (what does it mean to research aerodynamics before aircraft? ) but the thing you pointed out is not such a big deal; some advances in civ4 show units that you need more research to actually build (archery, for instance)
SupSuper
22 Aug 2007, 05:47
Yes but you have to state the pre-req somewhere. In any case I don't give Plasma enough credit to come up with something like that.
Researching aerodynamics before deplyong aircrafts makes perfect sense too me.
And vehicle firepower must mean the firepower of the guns that they mount on the vehicles. So even if you don't have the vehicles, surely you can make weapons stronger.
It's all about interpretation. =P
thomasp
22 Aug 2007, 12:45
what does it mean to research aerodynamics before aircraft?
Because you need to have an understanding of how fluids flow over surfaces before you can even begin to start designing an aircraft or aircraft component.
You might spend "a year" designing what you think is a brilliant wing, but when you go to put it in the wind tunnel or test fly it, you find it is worse than hopeless because you didn't understand the concepts of aerodynamics and viscous fluid flows over surfaces.
And yes, I am studying a degree in aeronautical engineering :p

****ing little old ladies in their neighbouring houses going "Ooooohhhh it's an eyesore!" Pretend to be a gas man and go round there and slit their throats. lol
In seriousness, though, in Chester or Cheshire or Flintshire, I dunno, we can have a dish on our house as long as it's less than 80CM diameter. Mind, if your building's listed or something then there's little chance. You could mount a dish on a tripod, though, or on a pole sticking out of the ground. I'd be happy to advise you on fittings.

Well, we live in an old, listed building, so if we change the exterior in any way, we have to get permission from the council. This includes screwing a satellite dish to the house.
And if we did it without permission, the council would find out some how and order us to take it down at our expense.

Does the ignore function hide a persons posts? I thought it only blocked PMs.
AndrewTaylor
26 Aug 2007, 16:19
Indeed it does. They're collapsed into a little horizontal bar like deleted posts are for us higher beings. Personally I can never resist looking at them anyway, so I don't use it. Also because I can just delete posts that are stupid.
You can't ignore mods, apparently.
