View Full Version : Why is wormnet so laggy lately?
In case you didn't notice, there are some HUGE lag periods. I am just wondering what is the cause of this and if it will get better soon.

because there are some flooders out there :D
Out of curiosity, do you mean in game? And if so, is it every time a crate is about to appear?
no, wormnet may be even offline while you're playing a game. that lag you have before a crate spawn, it's due to the great dimension of the map you're play with.
the code to determining where to drop a crate at is not that optimised for large maps which is why most (dunno about core 2 duo processors) people encounter lag when a crate is gonna drop.

Known. Crate showers are a lag-fest. :(
Also, this isn't really related - as WormNET is slow lately (I don't know the cause).

Comparing wormnet to a couple of months ago, the only difference I notice nowadays is the huge ammount of snoopers online... Maybe it's a bug in that prosnooper app making wormnet lag? Ban it for a couple of days and wormnet might be running like it used to do. If it still lags, its not the snooper... if it doesnt, the author of that program has a job to do xD

Dario is talking about wormnet lag, not in-game lag.
3 'new' things started happening about the time this lag started happening:
1). It is now common to see 50+ users in AG. I'd never seen this before in my 3 years of playing.
2). More and more snoopers < why have both regular account and snoop at the same time? One or the other, peoplez.
3). Hostingbuddy. < Is he really our friend, or just stealing the server's resources?
I'm not sure what the cause is, but it sure sucks. Wormnet is literally unusable at peak times, like right now on the weekend. Just tried to get into AG...channel timeouts, host timeouts, etc. etc. really frustrating.
No comment from Team17 on the cause and possible solutions?

Yeah I noticed that too, where are they all coming from? I notice there's a big surge in chinese players lately - there used to be virtually none at all but it seems to be finally catching on over there through the highschools.

HostingBuddy is broken in a way that's very hard to fix. You can still use it as a last measure, but expect some disconnects every now and then.
I'm not so sure WN lags because of the amount of ppl in there. I've seen it lag with 28 ppl.
But yes, it is kind of a drag lately connecting, joining a lobby, and hosting...

Is the WA client lagging or the server? You don't even need to use the WA IRC client since ProSnooper 2.0 tells WA to join/host games. I find ProSnooper much faster than the WA IRC interface. That could be one reason for more users online at once since ProSnooper doesn't disconnect from WormNet every time it hosts or joins a game.

Not only in china ;)
And I've never seen as much people online in wormnet as now, too.
Find some people and play with a direct ip connection or hamachi :)
