I'd love to see a litle compatibility list appearing. Anyone with or without this problem, please mention the keyboard brand and model you are using, and tell us If you have a lock or not. It would be nice to have a list of keyboards that work fine in Worms, and a list of the no-no hardware:
Manufacturer..........Model....................... .....Keylock
Logitech................Cordless Desktop EX110......Yes
Saitek...................Eclipse ll...........................YesLogitech Media Keyboard Elite works fine with it but the £30 Saitek suck's and it look's so good :(
OPTIMA Computer Technology works fine too :)
shoould note that some keyboards experience different key locks to others.
Might want to add all laptop keyboards to that list. And tell people they don't want to go there. In fiery red letters.
Hiya, DF.
If you're adding laptop keyboards to the list, the Acer Travelmate 4400 board works fine. Although a definitive test would be helpful for everyone to test their boards with, so that we can be sure some possible keylocks aren't missed.

erm, which model are you talking about? http://pages.optima.com.au/default.asp mentiones several series, so please specify the model, since chips or wiring in models may vary.
Although a definitive test would be helpful for everyone to test their boards with.
The test I did was very easy to perform.
1) hang on the ceiling
2) Press Up and Left together and then press the spacebar, check if it releases the rope immediately like it should.
3) now press Up and Right and check the same.
Any failure in rope getting released the way it should be (at the first swing you make) will point to a wiring problem, thus a key lock.
Goddamnit, I never had this problem with my Cherry keyboard without Windows keys back in late 90's... I whish I knew the model of that one -.-

Make sure it is a USB keyboard.
That does not guarantee the lack of a key lock, though. The (no-name) PS/2 keyboard I'm using doesn't lock up at all (maybe at 6+ simultaneous key presses, but when do you ever hold that many at once?). The other keyboard I've got is a USB keyboard by Saitek and it locks up at any key combination that involves more than three key presses.

The Stone 5201 works just fine.
Though you'd be hard pushed to find one now judging by a quick google search. It's cream and rectangular, late 80's style, though it's perfect for roping.
yes, its still dependent on the controller and how the keys are wired to the controller, how the controller connects to the PC is irrelevant.

This topic holds a list of keyboards reported to be either a problem or working fine with Worms. Many keyboards have a so called key lock due to wiring or diodes, making it impossible for some key combinations to work properly. Some keyboards, especially gaming boards have a functionality which is called "Full-N-Key-RollOver". These keyboards allow any combination of key-presses. The ancient IBM Model M keyboard also has this feature. If you want to add your keyboard experiences then follow the instructions to find out if your board has a keylock and post your reply in this topic. The specific keyboard will then be added to this list. Keyboards listed below with a Yes have blocks on keys like Up+Left+Space pressed together or similar unwanted features.
Keyboads listed with a No are recommended to buy:

The test I did was very easy to perform.
1) attach your rope to the ceiling
2) Press Up and Left together and then press the Spacebar, check if it releases the rope immediately like it should.
3) attach the rope again and hold Up and Right then Spacebar to check if it releases immediately like it should.
Any failure in rope getting released the way it should be (at the first swing you make) will point to a wiring problem, thus a key lock.
For example, the Logitech Media keyboard shows no problem if you press Up and Right firmly and then the Spacebar. The rope will shoot immediately. Up and Left pressed firmly and then the Spacebar will result in the worm climbing towards the ceiling (because the rope gets shorter) but its not released. Sometimes the worm will shoot from the rope after several seconds if pressing all three keys together. <- But only if there is no more rope to climb and the worm moves fast back and forth on the ceiling.

Mitsubishi Diamond Touch USB keyboard, model 6511-BU works great but good luck finding one (got mine for $4 from savers).
Starkey brand keysboards lock up with 3 keys held.
Most of the time, if it's a thin cheap keyboard with a membrane circuit board then it will lock.
Starkey brand keysboards lock up with 3 keys held.
You mean ALL Starkey keyboards? Can you confirm that? I'd rather put ONLY tested keyboards in the compatibility list, and only boards which lock up when pressing either Up+Left+Spacebar or Up+Right+Spacebar.

Microsoft....Internet Keyboard Pro.....No
Microsoft internet keyboard (not pro) - no keylock AFAIK: I'll double check later but I'm 99% sure so put it on the list because I think I'm right.
Added the Internet Keyboard Pro to the Keyboard compatibility list (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33321), but Muzer please get rid of the 1% which might be Murphy's hiding place (Logitechs Media Keyboard and Media Keyboard Elite also have differences) :) Keyboards on the list must be 100% tested, anyone would hate going to a shop, buying an expensive keyboard and then find out it doesn't work while the list stated it would...ppfff back to that shop again. We all want to be sure no ;)
I'm not even sure if you can buy it. It came with my PC. But yeah, I'll test tomorrow
OPTIMA Computer Technology works fine too :)

According to the Hardware Compatibility List for XP (https://winqual.microsoft.com/download/hcl/WinXPHCLx86.txt), your keyboard seems to be a KeyTronicEMS (http://www.keytronic.com/). To bad they don't have this specific model in their online shop anymore. Anyway, no keylock ha? -> added to list (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33321).

I'm sorry, but I don't think any of us have any keyboars anymore. Did you try searching for them in the doorwild?
Might want to duplicate this thread for other forums, Gnork. I'm pretty certain a thread in the Wormy forum of FB [and the SSX clan forums, now that I think about this] would do your list good:

Holding down 4 keys simultaneously locks it up, except for combinations with the space bar and the cursor keys, where it already locks up with 3 keys (right+up, right+down and left+up). Only left+down works while holding down the space bar.
This is a major annoyance when roping.

Grrr.... My Logitech EX110 just died yesterday while playing WA :(
I'd nominate it for the Crap of the Year Award - the mouse eats batteries every 2 weeks, the keyboard has a keylock and now it turns out it can't handle a descent game of Worms for not even half a year.
So, finding a new USB board - wired this time - wasn't 2 easy. Shops here all sell deluxe cordless bull**** boards with 2 many keys. It took me 8 stores to find a Kensington USb. And guess what? Yup, also a keylock. Left and Up don't go with Spacebar, Right and Up have no problems with it. Same annoyance as with the Logitech, but at least it's a lot cheaper. So it's added to the list... Lol, they don't even know how to spell Value - the name of the board looks so no0bish :D

I can really suggest the Logitech Media Keyboard Elite.
Only cost me €22.- retail here in Austria.
It's a wired USB keyboard, has no keylocks, nice multimedia buttons, programmable F-keys and a few handy extra buttons.
Edit:
How about adding a price column to your list of keyboards?
The Labtec Internet Keyboard cost me €9.- in 2005 and the Logitech Media Keyboard Elite cost me €22.- in 2007.
BTW, it may be an idea to do the down+left/right+space keylocks as well.

It has a keyloack with all 2-arrow+space combos except U+R+Space and L+R+Space.

Well, those are the only combos that really need testing.
indeed, so it sounds the keyboard is compatible with Worms anyway ;)
How about adding a price column to your list of keyboards?
Nah, prices will vary in time and location, just the model is enough info - you should find your local deal around the corner yourself :)
But yeah, the keyboard I mentioned above does have an up+left+space keylock, so put that on the list as f*cked.

This is my situation:
My new Optiplex doesn't have PS/2 ports and has 8 USB 2.0 ports.
After I checked local stores for a USB keyboard without a Keylock, the only one that the stores have on their websites is the Logitech Media Keyboard Elite, which has been sold out. I called the stores and they told me that it has been discontinued.
I found out that Belkin makes adapters so I could plug a PS/2 keyboard into a USB port. Would I be able to use it without a keylock situation?
Plainplane :)
depends entirely on how the keyboard is built, the connection to the PC is relativly unrelated to whether it has key locks or not.
Indeed.
They connection type doesn't matter, although, cheaper keyboards tend to have PS/2 connectors rather than USB ones.
On the other hand, more expensive keyboards mostly come with an adapter so you can use the USB keyboard on a PS/2 port.
The price of a keyboard, however, is not necessarily an indicator for the keyboards quality.
If you buy retail, you could ask your friendly, local dealer if you could test the keyboard prior to purchase.
Ask for "n-key rollover", where n is the number of keys you want to press simultaneously.
Logitech's G15 keyboard has full n-key rollover, which means you press all its keys simultaneously and it won't lock up.
The Logitech Media Elite, which I own too, has 7-key rollover for example.
yea i saw a keyboard supporting 7 keys simaltaneously but it was over 150$ roflmao.
yea i saw a keyboard supporting 7 keys simaltaneously but it was over 150$ roflmao.
Well, the Logitech Media Elite cost me €22.-.
And since the Logitech G15, which supports full n-key rollover, costs about €60.-, I think your 150$ offer is a bit overpriced.
yep, i saw it at harvey norman months ago and they are rip offs, if your gonna get something from them, get them to price match someone else.

Well, 7-key rollover is way enough for roping in Worms, which this thread is mainly about if you read the first post again.
And you shouldn't jump to conclusions if you don't like ergonomic keyboard layouts.
Obviously there are quite some people that like them, otherwise companies wouldn't produce them.
yea, but most decent keyboards ONLY come in the ergonimic design. and i meant it costs around 150$ from a standard retailer here.

Sheesh!
You can get the Logitech G15 for about €60.- from a retailer here in Austria.
And you definitely don't need anything more than the G15.
(Well, perhaps the Optimus Maximus, but that one costs €371.40.)
Actually Easy Touch is a crap (not because it's ergo, because it's made badly).
About ergo kbs - best for typing ever (of course if you know how to type correctly).
Optimus Maximus? 370 euro? Is that thing gold plated with diamonds? Why on earth so expensive?

Also, anyone that says "I'd prefer to have the video rather than the keyboard" deserves to get out of this forum!
Hey guys, Gotta buy a keyboard over the next couple weeks... and I cant seem to find any of the ones in this list!
I can however find the 2nd generation of the G15:
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=26151&vpn=920%2D000379&manufacture=Logitech
Does anyone know if it is as good as the first gen? Does this gen not get keylocked?
Ideas ?
I have access to buy this one too: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10090911&catid=25611#
The Logitech Access keyboard. Any idea about keylock on it?
If I go and purchase this from future shop - what's the easiest way to tell if it has keylock, and how many keys can be pressed at once? Notepad, and go through keys?
AFAIR, the Logitech G15 has full n-key rollover, as it's specifically designed for gamers.
It would be strange if the 2nd generation would miss that feature.
I have no idea about the Logitech Access keyboard though.
You can test it easily by pressing and holding a button for example in notepad and then press and hold another button.
Do that until it stops printing characters and you hear the PC speaker beeping.
All the buttons you're now holding minus the last one is the amount of key rollover your keyboar d supports.
You could also try tools like this:

Thanks! I will let everyone know.
Make sure you try out key combinations you expect to be using. Like for example: up + right + F1 may work while up + right + F2 doesn't. It all depends upon the circuit design of the keyboard. The keyboard I use begins locking at 4 keys, but I've found certain key combinations that allow me to press 4 - 9 keys at the same time with no problem.
What Etho said!
The most important key combinations probably are the cursor keys with the space bar.
I.e. the 4 diagonal directions.

Problem simply fixed on my laptop by switching keys around and testing them out. Apparently, up + left + space doesn't work, but up + left + shift does. The shift button is my new space. A noble sacrifice.
the following two keyboards do have keylock (space bar doesn't work when pressing "up" and "left"):
1) Cherry eVolution Stream Corded MultiMedia Keyboard
2) Logitech OEM UltraX Premium
Manufacturer: HP

Installed Worms Blast on PII 350 Mhz with a new graphics card (otherwise it wouldn't work).
Keyboard freezes and cannot get out when playing.
I have KVM so i removed the KVM (except Video side), plugged the keyboard and the mouse directly in to the PII.
Still freezes after a few keystrokes of playing.
Tried googling and looking around team 17 Blast microsite. No mention of the problem.
Worms Pinball works - not tested with the new Graphics Card.

digimore capacity chocolate keyboard KB-801
Can you find anywhere that specifically says it supports 17 key rollover? Or the price, at least?
Looks interesting for people who prefer scissor switches and a very low profile, but those F-keys really seem way too small for use in the faster Worms schemes.

The company that makes the keyboard, digimore, emailed me saying it has 17 key rollover for PS/2 and 6 for usb.
I cant give you direct proof. Or first hand proof.
We finally brought out scissor-type chocolate keyboard with 17 keys rollover if interface is PS/2. For USB, maximum N-key rollover is 6 keys
I would love to know the price aswell, all i can find at the moment are wholesale websites.
I used to love roping on a keyboard with small laptop style keys, but i had to remap [space] to the [V] button.
I had a keyboard that worked fine, but it had big buttons, my reactions were better on a low profile keyboard for the little RR maps.
Got fedup in the end, couldnt chat online properly with the buttons remapped, couldnt play at best with the chucky buttons
An alternative program for testing how many keys you can press at once is this (http://byuu.org/temp/nkey-rollover.exe). Test the key combinations you will be using or are likely to use and it should display the correct total number of keys being pressed down, if it shows less then the keyboard is failing to detect all the keys you are pressing.
