View Full Version : ultra-sensitive mouse under vmware fusion on mac
I loaded WA and brought it up to the latest patchlevel on my xp
virtual machine, running vmware fusion 1.04 on my macbook pro.
It almost works perfectly! All screens look good, resolutions are
fine, sound and music is fine.
The only problem: during gameplay mode, the mouse is ultra-sensitive.
just barely touching it will send your view far into the sky. during weapon
selection mode, it is almost impossible to get the mouse over a selection
because it is so sensitive.
During non-gameplay mode (config screen, game selection, etc) the
mouse works perfectly.
Any suggestions as to what I can look at or tweak?
Many TIA!

I had the same problem donkeys years ago when playing WA under Win95 on Virtual PC 3 on my old G3 iMac - there was a software update/plugin for VPC that addressed mouse issues in general, and by luck this fixed the WA issue.
Check on the VMWare website for more any such updates or plugins. I imagine the problem lies more with VMWare than WA, since regular "PC" users don't experience the same problems.
If my memory serves me correctly (it's a while since I played WA... :(), you can use the F-keys (function keys: F1, F2, F3, etc) to choose weapons, rather than using the mouse (you'll still have to use the mouse to select the target for homing weapons though). Depending how your MacBook Pro is set up you may have to hold down the "fn" key in the bottom left of your keyboard before pressing the "F.." keys in order to get them to function.

Actually, this is due to VMware's mouse pointer integration. The reason it is "ultra-sensitive" is because each time you move it, the game moves the view by the distance from the screen center, and then tries to move the mouse pointer to the screen center, which VMware doesn't allow it to do. This will probably affect some other games as well with mouse panning. The solution is to uninstall the VMware mouse driver in the guest machine. This will disable pointer integration altogether (you'll have to press a hotkey to defocus the virtual machine).

A better solution is to keep VMWare tools and simply edit 2 config files for your VM as outlined here:

You're having better luck than me, OP -- every time I try to start Worms with DirectX enabled in VMware Fusion I get a bluescreen :( (VMWare Fusion v1.0)
