I read something about opening the logo2-file in USER>IMPORT, changing this one in Paint or whatever, and paint all available surfaces black and et. c. I did this and saved it, kept a back-up of the original logo2-file of course, but it doesn't seem to work. Where do I save my own level to play it in the actual game?
Please help!
Create a paletted .png image with fewer than or equal to 113 colours. (1 of the colours will be black which is where worms can walk). The sizes of the image must be divisible by 8.
Once that is done, save the file into your SavedLevels folder, then use the drop down menu (not import) in the level editor to find it.
Paint (as far as I know) cannot do paletted png files, for that you'll need Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, the GIMP or some other image editing software.

Is it the right thing in Gimp when you want to change the number of colours: Tools (in german Werkzeuge (i dont know the right translation)) => Colours => Posterisieren (maybe posterize)??
And what's the difference between png and paletted png?
There you can save only as "normal ".png or other things... (attachment)

I made a .PNG of my picture and all that you said, it's 113 colours now also. But, the level editor? Where do I find this? I can't find it in the scroll menu in the game, when choosing level even though I put it in the SavedLevels-folder. Please help me out here!
Right click on the random map preview in the game creation screen.
I've never used the gimp myself, but I don't think posterise is what you want, although it may make the maps look quite "wormy". You're looking for "colour number" or "decrease colour depth", something like that.
The difference between paletted and normal is just the way the colours are stored, the extension is still .png

Does it work the same way in WWP?
Not exactly, I don't have World Party but I know it doesn't support nearly as much as WA. Someone else can probably tell you more precisely.

... the thing is, when I import my map into the editor and when I change to "edit mode" (don't know if that is what it's called in english), all I have left is more or less the outline of the picture. I have changed my picture into a .BMP of 113 colours but still it doesn't work. My landscape is a photo-collage of me and some friends, so I kinda wan't that to be shown and not just the outline of it and filled with dirt-textures. Do you know how to fix this?
If you're struggling you can send me the image and I'll see where it's gone wrong. If the dimensions are the standard 1920x696 then you can put it into your import folder and do it that way even as a BMP, but if it's any other dimension it needs to be a .png, in which case you put it in savedlevels, find it in the drop down menu, do NOT go back to edit mode because that will just (as you've descirbed) make it all white again.

... This is so annoying, why can't this work. I do everything you tell me to do, I even tried to give you a screenshot of the process, but that didn't work either.
Okay, this is what I do. Maybe I've missed some crucial step in the process...
I right-click on the random map-picture, the map editor opens. I click the import-icon with the disc or whatever it is.
A little menu pops up of the files available in the Import-folder in the "User"-folder. I choose to import my own landscape called "egetlandskap", meaning "own landscape" just for the record.
Then a little clock comes up tellin me what currently is beng done in the process, "Reading..." and "Color reduction..." and something else.
This far everything's fine, my landscape shows up in the window with water and all.
Now I type "egetlandskap" in the scroll-field and then save it, it is now called "egetlandskap.BIT".
BUT, when I try to find it in the map-menu in a "single or multiplayer game" for example, I CAN'T find it. But have I missed?

.BIT files tend to be colourless files. You don't want it to go back to that, you want to save it as a coloured image. (The game saves them in png format).
When you want to play in multiplayer games, you need to go into the editor and load the map (use the drop down menu to find it). Once it is visible in the editor, exit the editor and start the game.
Anything else that comes up, feel free to ask.

I managed to use the map in gameplay in a non-online multiplayer game, but when I logged on to Wormnet hoping to use the new map the Import-logo (the disc?) in the Level Editor-menu was gone, so only the outlines could be used since the .BIT-file was in the SavedLevels-folder. Strange... any idea?

It doesn't work fine. Your map is a BMP file and those are only supported in offline games. Their visual quality is also inferior to that of PNG files when it comes to WA maps from my experience. In order to convert the original image from your camera to a 112 [or 64] colour PNG, get your hands on a decent piece of bitmap editing software and follow the instructions I linked to to the letter. Save the PNG file into your "Worms Armageddon\User\SavedLevels" folder and select it from the in-game terrain editor.
That way your map will look better and work online as well as offline.
Edit: The latest version of WA is 3.6.28.x. Make sure you're on this version before doing anything else.
inferior in what way? a BMP file is what a WAV file is to MP3.

BMP files are redithered by the game using whatever palette it finds suitable. The quality will always be better if you palletize the file yourself in a program like Photoshop.
More like, BMP is to PNG as WAV is to FLAC. PNG is a lossless, compressed format, and BMP is its uncompressed counterpart. KRD is incorrect in saying BMPs are inferior to PNGs in visual quality. However, BMPs don't work for big WA maps.
with png you lose various colours if the image contains more then256 colours, thus it isnt lossless in all cases, but yes for 256 or less coloured images it would be losseless.
No, the PNG format can support 32-bit colour.

To get back on track, I think what everyone is trying to say is that you need to save your file as a .png file before even loading WA, then you don't use the import feature at all.

... My WA got screwed so I'm doing all this in WWP. When I save the .PNG in SavedLevels I CAN'T find it in the drop down-menu in the game. It's empty and I've tried doing all the things you guys say all the time, but the **** just won't work, screw this. Maybe my version is "effed" up.

Nearly none of the stuff described in this thread will work on WWP. WWP is horribly outdated (compared to W:A) and doesn't have many features brought to W:A by the beta updates. It's impossible to play on colour maps online in WWP without using 3rd-party addons.
