View Full Version : Who is the author of these maps?
I decided to plug in my old hard drive just now to find some of the colour maps I made and uploaded when the patch for colour maps was just realeased. While I was looking I came accross some maps I uploaded previously that weren't by me. They would be on BTP but as you may know every so often somebody accidentally wipes all the files, so all I have is PNG images without any filenames or descriptions.
These maps were originally colour BMPs, and I believe they were all by the same person (possibly not the bookcase one), I just can't remember who it is. Something to do with M and V. I converted them to PNGs when the patch came out to upload them iirc.
I've uploaded them to http://66.7.201.40/~zogger/zoggerstuff/oldmaps/ till I know who they are :). For some reason they won't display in firefox but they will in IE / windows explorer. Some format issue I guess.
Surprisingly I do actually have some of those. Whether the information I have is correct or not I can't be sure of, but I haven't changed it.
File0167 - MnP_AirForceOne
File0248 - MnP_JabbasPalace
File0239 - MnP_Titanic
I do recognise the tree one, but I can't find it.
Same here. I'll get the name in a mo - my second HDD is playing up. I'll sort it, it's just the computer.
titanic and airforce 1 are on team17's FTP for worms 2... someone else obviously added colour and texture to them.
They are by Meat 'n' Potatoes
ah that's the one. Thanks everyone :)
The first four are by Meat 'n' Potatoes. The 5th one is "Mickey's Library" by a guy named Shy.

franpa, how are you so hilarious sometimes? The maps were created in colour for WA originally, and converted to W2. To make them in black and white and then convert them to colour would be a ridiculous process! :p
i never said what game the maps where originaly made for. if someone different made the maps for worms 2 then my point is correct.
Hmm...
The readme file states May 1998 as the creation date, when WA wasn't even released yet.
Loading them up in W2 it looks like a simple conversion from .bmp to .lev. You'd get the exact same effect if you load the color versions in WA and then switch to edit mode.
Anyway, seeing that the Titanic map comes in 5 different stages of sinking, I wonder where the colour versions of the remaining 4 are...
Sunken to the bottom of the icy northern Atlantic ocean?
Strange, because the now rather broken Meat 'n' Potatoes website (http://members.tripod.com/mnpp/wa_custom.htm) is quite focused on WA, and the news section (http://members.tripod.com/mnpp/wa_frame_right.htm) has gravestones dated just five days after the first level, when W2 doesn't support custom gravestones.
are you sure the game doesnt? :P the game is highly customizable.
Positive. They appear as crosses the same colour as the team, which I always thought looked like fire hydrents.
are you sure the game doesnt?
Yes.
W2 used detonating tombstones. They couldn't be customizable of course, because then one could easily disguise them.
Franpa knows that, of course. He's just being... a spammer Franpa.
hmmm, well W:A allows insert sprites built into the game, i thought maybe someone could insert/replace a graphic into worms 2 too and have it work off line.
All those maps are at wmdb.org ;o
And no, i'm not the "Shy" who made that map ;[[
I ask again:
Does anyone know the respective color version of those 4 other Titanic maps exist somewhere?
i've only ever seen the ones on team17's site, which i saw ages ago, back when i looked for a particular worms 2 demo.

Bonz, I believe franpa was right about them being made originally for W2, then re-made for WA. We had this discussion over at Des's (http://computerhead.biz/forum/viewtopic.php?t=181) :D
Judging from the more *working* version of a Meat 'n' Potatoes site (http://www.mnpp.net/features_worms.htm), it looks as if "Titanic B" was the only map from the Titanic series to be converted to WA.
If you had the time yourself to convert the old maps, they're available on the T17 ftp, and also in the link to Des's I posted earlier.
