Ive got a few questions about the update...

Question1

"Quoted from the ReadMe"..
• It is now possible to set the TCP port used for hosting games. This setting is in the Network Configuration screen, and affects both WormNET and Direct IP games. Games hosted on a port other than the default one, 17011, will be inaccessible to game versions prior to 3.6.28.0

What does this mean?

Question 2

"Quoted from the ReadMe"..
• People hosting Direct IP games may now offer links in the format wa://address-of-host, and launching this link will cause W:A to automatically launch and join the hosted game. This link format supports additional parameters (See Footnote 3). A port can be specified using the wa://ip:port syntax.
• The command line "WA.exe /host" will cause W:A to automatically launch and host a Direct IP game

So if i do this, does it mean anyone can join my games? And how do i do it? Im confused =[

Question 3

When is the HostingBuddy going to be working? And when it is working, how can i use it to host games?

And Finally Question 4

"Quoted from the ReadMe"..
• The Pause screenshot key now works in the front end.

What is "The Front End"? And when i take a screen shot, does it get saved into any particular folder?

Thanks!

you can change what port the game uses thus multiple computers on the same connection can now play without adjusting port forwarding settings each time for each computer.

the front end is the front end IE where you choose single player, net games, options, etc.

Thanks!

bolded replies.

What about question 2 and 3? lol

So is it possible to take screen shots like in game?

You already can take screenies in game and it's been possible for a long time. press pausebreak and it sends a screeny to User\Capture.

yes, but now it works in the front end as well. it was only possible before with fraps or something.

Please clarify your 2nd question. You still need to be able to host much like with WormNET games. However, it's now just easier to host and join Direct IP games, which don't make use of WormNET at all - all you need to join someone's direct IP game is his IP, and any advanced parameters he might have specified.

Regarding HostingBuddy - when it's finished :)

What franpa said, plus, if port 17011 is blocked for some reason, you can evade to a different one.

You can use such a link for people to directly join your hosted game by entering the link into Start-->Run or a browser window.

And Finally Question 4

The frontend are all the menus.

Have you got an F Lock key? If f lock is enabled so the the light is on above it then you can't use the pausebreak key. If you make sure the light is off then the pausebreak key will work.

Also I have a question, is is possible to use the /batty and /test or whatever in an offline game? Because I wanna fiddle around with em offline.

Just host a Direct IP game. You can now play it alone.

Yes .

No, you don't.
It seems that the Start button won't light up for some people, no matter what they do.
We'll look into this...

heh, is it possible to host on port 80 then? I didn't try yet, would be cool tho :p

It doesn't matter if I change port, nobody can join anyway... so here are my questions:
Does that person who would like to connect my host have to change port number in configuration(for that what I have) ?
And does WormNET allow all ports to use them?

I also have a question...

When will the HostingBuddy be ready!?!??!?!??!?!??!?!???!??!

franpa

msg it and then learn to understand what it says then wait for a new update to W:A.

Blitza`
7 Jul 2007, 10:10
I have messaged it. Thats what is ****ing me off =[

Atleast change the message every week.

franpa
7 Jul 2007, 10:17
well, what do you want it to do aside from showing a new message every week? you want it to give you a fuzzy hug?

it is a beta component that is not fully operational.

I heard that Deadcode & CyberShadow have been in an alcohol induced coma since they've drunk 289 beers together in a few days to celebrate the release of the beta. http://www.trailerparkboys.org/forums/Smileys/default/beer.gif

Hot off the heels of the best update the game has ever seen, and people are still impatient. The thing is that if you try hard enough you can probably find ways to host without it.

i Prove you wrong hurrel. Ive tried numerous times, screwing with my router and trying to host and never works.

Well hostingbuddy is here now, yay!

If your router doesn't support forwarding ports, then it's junk; get a normal router, manufactured in this millennium. If you can't figure out how to set it up to forward ports, that's a completely different problem, and I suggest you read its manual more carefully.

rofl, it supports port forwarding and yes i have read the manual and yes ive tried everything.

As my router is wireless and connected through a modem, then ive been told i need to bridge the IP from the modem or something. I dont know how to do that.

But if anyone does. Help would be nice

CyberShadow
9 Jul 2007, 15:49
Ok, does the modem act as a router itself?
What IP does the router report in its configuration panel? Your external IP as seen by what's my IP (http://whatismyip.com/) sites?

Blitza`
10 Jul 2007, 00:08
Yes the modem has its own router. But we configured a wireless netgear router to run from that modem so i could use wireless in my other room and get connectivity from that router to 2 computers via wireless.
For example...The modem and NETGEAR router are in my brothers room. I use a NETGEAR wireless adapter to connect to that internet connection, so i can access the internet on the computer in my room.

So the router that came with the modem, is no longer in use.

What do u mean by the "configuration panel". I have got a Basic settings and a wireless settings tab in my router, they only show the internet IP adress, DNS adress etc.

CyberShadow
10 Jul 2007, 07:20
If you connect to the Internet through two routing devices, you will have to set up forwarding for both. The external router will have to forward the ports to the internal router's IP. If any of these routers don't support port forwarding, you're out of luck (see my point above).

Blitza`
10 Jul 2007, 09:26
The external router being the netgear router?

CyberShadow
10 Jul 2007, 10:15
If I understood correctly, your network setup is something like this?

Blitza`
10 Jul 2007, 10:59
Yes, its exactly setup like that...

CyberShadow
10 Jul 2007, 11:27
OK then. You should know that each router has two IPs, for each network zone it's in - the "external" IP address, for the zone closer to the Internet, and an "internal" one, closer to your computer. The modem router's "external" address is your external IP as seen by other computers on the Internet (and websites like http://whatismyip.com/ ).

In a network zone, all devices connected to it have the same two numbers of the IP address. So:
* the modem router's external IP is your WAN IP (as seen by other computers on the Internet)
* the modem router's internal IP address is its IP on the "LAN Segment 1" zone - e.g. aaa.aaa.bbb.bbb

* the NetGear router's external IP is its IP on the "LAN Segment 1" zone - e.g. aaa.aaa.ccc.ccc
* the NetGear router's internal IP is its IP on the "LAN Segment 2" zone - e.g. xxx.xxx.yyy.yyy

* your computer's IP is its IP on the "LAN Segment 2" zone - e.g. xxx.xxx.zzz.zzz

To set up port forwarding, you will have to do the following:
* set up the modem router to forward incoming connections on port 17011 to your NetGear router's IP on the "LAN Segment 1" zone -(aaa.aaa.ccc.ccc)
* set up the NetGear router to forward incoming connections on port 17011 to your computer's IP on the "LAN Segment 2" zone -(xxx.xxx.zzz.zzz)
* make sure you don't have any software firewalls on your computers that might be blocking port 17011

Omg, thanks for the information, but one problem is that i have no idea how to do that stuff. When you say "setup the modem router to forward incoming connections on port 170111 to your netgears router". How do u do this?

And will i have to unplug my router and set up the modem-router again. then re-setup my router?

CyberShadow
10 Jul 2007, 11:52
Log in to your modem router's control panel. Check its manual on how to set up port forwarding. To find NetGear's IP addresses, check the NetGear router's control panel.

Blitza`
10 Jul 2007, 11:56
But i cant access both routers at the same time. Like i can only access the netgear router when its plugged into the modem, and i can only access the modems router when i dont have the netgear router connected..

(well as far as i know of)

Blitza`
10 Jul 2007, 12:09
Ok, i found out that i can access both. And i also just read over what you said, and i understand it :D. Ill try it later. Thanks!
