View Full Version : Forum Game: Guess the game quote!
wormthingy

Ok, here's a lil forum game.
person A posts a quote from a game of his choice and lets the others guess what game it's from. if the other person guess is correct he/she gets 1 point, if the other person also manages to name who's quote it is and where in the game it is he/she gets 2 points.
now to kick it off:
"WHEN YOU FALL INTO THE
WATER, DON'T PANIC
RIGHT AWAY,
YOU STILL
HAVE THE STRENGTH TO
JUMP OUT ONCE, BUT
DON'T WAIT TOO LONG.
LANDING INTO THE WATER
FOR THE SECOND TIME WILL BE FATAL."
good luck!
PS. I wont be functioning as a scoreboard here. anytakers? :p
rather important edit:
NEW RULE!
you need to post multiple (min. 2 max. 5) quotes, they may be from more than 1 game.
if someone can name 3 of the games or 2 and who said it (both award you 1 point), the game passes on to the next person.
Prize system:
1 point : name the games of 3 quotes, name the games and who said it of 2 quotes
1.5 point : name the games and who said it of 4 quotes
2 points : name the games and who said it of all quotes

That sounds oddly like a sentence from the original "Spyro the Dragon". Amirite?

But in Spyro, you had to do it 4 times.
Golden Sparx -> Blue -> Green -> None -> Death
Otherwise, that does sound about right. If it was Spyro the Dragon (original), then it would have been one the Dragon released next to the pool in the Artisans World (next to the entrance to Sunny Flight or something).

say, nice topic idea.
in the game, would it actually be shouted like how you've written it?
Hmm... could be fun.
Btw, who gets to put up a quote, and when? Or is it that anyone can at any time?

I'd imagine whoever guesses successfully gets to choose the next quote.

Does it have to be quotes from games? Are tv quotes acceptable?
It isnt Spyro... I know its something Ive played though...

no, not spyro.
And it was in all-caps, not really shouting I think..
a little hint. it came out between 1993 and now.

Is it cheating if we google it? :p

I would have thought so, cos then it ruins the whole point.
Is it cheating if we google it? :p
Well, there's no actual way to be able to tell if someone did, so I guess not.
But it's not on google, apparently.

No idea for the game quote. You could pull an NTB and give us multiple options...

oh come on people!
It's not that hard.
think 1997
think helmet
think water
think building
Ecco the Dolphin.
Damnit, I was about to guess that too!
The points should be divided up. I get 1/1 of the point, and you get the remainder.

Now, this wouldn't be a game nobody's ever played, would it?
Colony Wars, mabye? I have no idea what it's about, just that it was made by Psygnosis in 1997, and it was released on the PS1.
Nah, I'll stick with Ecco the Dolphin.
I don't want to guess, but I have a one for you:
"You crack me up, little buddy."

Wait, what?
Seeing as the quote says that you'll DIE if you fall in the water, I doubt you're correct, there.
Either that or you're being ambiguously sarcastic.

I was thinking that too, but that game was released in 1996.Says 1997 on MobyGames.
Have to say, I looked it up on there by using the "1997" and "Side-scrolling" options, and observing what came up. Wasn't sure though. If it's right, I reserve the right to be vaguely annoyed at myself for being a cowardy custard and not guessing.
"You crack me up, little buddy."I would guess Sam from one of the Sam and Max games, simply because I read that webcomic teasery thing they did to promote the new downloadable games, and he was saying "little buddy" all the time.
Says 1997 on MobyGames.
1996 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventures_of_Lomax)
Oct 31st, 1996 (http://www.gamespot.com/ps/action/adventuresoflomax/index.html)
And that's what put me off when I was looking through that exact wikipedia article!
Oh, and don't forget, there's supposed to be an extra point for the one who can find where in the game the quote is from!

WHO it is from
Its the wizard :p (you find a wizard hat and a wizard pops out to give you a hint. This one is by some water :p)
EDIT: I WIN! So do I give the next quote? Ive already got one prepared
EDIT: "How many days left? Ack, we don't even like to think of it"
I've slightly changed the quote so it isn't BLINDINGLY obvious and to prevent googling, its still basically the same though
I don't know how obvious this will be, but a POX ON THEE who fails to get it

These threads are more fun if they're free-for-alls.

Agreed. Your Name That Bassline (http://www.realvg.org/forum/showthread.php?t=270) thread was more fun because it had multiple 'questions' instead of waiting for someone to guess the first before going on to the second.

Imma confuzzled by teh new scoringness. So one person has to guess three before it moves on? What if three different people guess the games? Who does it move on to? Who gets how many points?

Actually, Grim's method seems to work fine.

I think there should be 3 quotes in the thread, and whoever guesses one posts a new quote to replace the one he guessed, and earns a point in the process.

They're still questions, you can still answer them.

Well, the one big difference for that is that the only people that seem to post the basslines are just you and, IIRC, Daniel. For a case like this, it would be anyone, which would make a hell lot more quotes to guess than for your thread.

Oh, I doubt TMS have ever actually said "And it races to the boundary like a tricycle". But on the other hand, I wouldn't put it past them I can easily imagine Henry Blofeld (he of the Ashley Giles/amiable wheelie bin comparison) saying it in a moment of unguarded Blofeld-ness.
