View Full Version : The Rope In DS.....
well in the orginal W:OW the rope was a whole buntch of squares stuck together ( they had spaces in between them actually??!!?? )
so im hoping the rope will actually be a rope this time
SO EXCITED!!!

It is.

and it looks sweet! Great job guys!
The rope is only a mean of transport. Anything further than that was invented by the community so there should be no reason for you to expect to be able to rope around a la worms2/wa/wwp in W:OW. Also to be fair they included some sort of racing... Having said this I doubt the rope will be anything different to that in W:OW.
[this post is all speculation]

Is that because you didn't even bother to read two posts into this thread before leaping in with a guess?
i was just looking through the ign movies and i the one movie "battle on!" (DS)
the player at one point uses a rope and it looks the same as it did in W:OW...... a whole buntch of squares....... soo if is this an earlier version or what?? :-/ :-/ :-/

I assume that there's a very good reaon behing the rope being a bunch of circles rather than a full line.
Hats were left out of the DS version, and the reason why was because the hardware wasn't so good at making them look good when they were rotated. I assume that this is the same reason for the rope. The circles don't need to rotate, and as such, it won't look all jaggedy and horrible when the rope moves.
I haven't seen a rope on the PSP version, but that one would be much more likely to actually look like a rope, seeing as it's got the more powerful graphics hardware.
It is.

if the rope is actually a rope this time , then why does it loom like that in the movie though?
okay , thats a pretty good explaniton , and in W:OW the rope was pretty laggy, youd get stuck and then let go and youd fall through land

The rope on the PSP version of Worms Open Warfare was made up of a lot of very small shaded circles joined together, much like how the rope in WA was made but without the rotation (which isn't necessary, what with the sprite in question being circular).
well i dont really care if the rope is squares again , as long as it isn't as laggy as in the first one
The rope is fine guys, you'll find it acts pretty much like it did in WWP.

The reason we used circles is a technical one (way too many polygons if done 'properly'). However the thing that really counts IMO is the way the rope plays, and to be honest: it plays just great ;)

Yeah, it might look odd in stills but when you see these things in motion they always look totally different.
Technically, the W:A rope is "made up of a bunck of little squares". ;)
Is that because you didn't even bother to read two posts into this thread before leaping in with a guess?
I know he asked about the graphics only, but I felt I could add more to it (like many people have without you bitxing). If you think my speculation is wrong, please feel free to prove me wrong.

Simply put: the game, and by extension the ninja rope, is being coded by an entirely different company from the one who developed the first Worms Open Warfare on the DS. Different code, different port, different rope.
Blam.
So in the end, my speculating will probably be wrong, however I'm still highly sceptical about the posiblitiy of roping like in WA/WWP, or anything close to that.

I'm am absolutely confident, without any doubt, that if you liked the way the rope works in WWP, you'll like the way the rope works in W:OW2 :)

The rope appears to manoeuvre really well from the video of the new trailer opsted on the official website. I never found a map in WOW1 where it was worth using the rope, but I am not in the slightest worried about how the rope looks, it is actually better than a single line, as it means there won't be loads of jaggies on the rope.
I am slightly worried that this was probably take from the PSP screen, but Im sure the movement should have the same fluidity in the DS version.
well, im just hoping that in this game you ca actually swing like tarzan.
last game when you let go of the rope ou just fell straight down ( DS aleast..)

I was awesome at the ropes in worms armageddon and open warfare 1 as well as worms 3d, this is going to much better than worms open warfare 1 becuase I would jump off from the rope and fall thru the ground into the water and out of the map for no reason, it was buggy.

Well that's pretty much a given, since the rope is brown and shown on a pixel display...
The rope in that video looked pretty good to me. Looked much like the Armageddon one only differently rendered.

Personally I never noticed and I don't care but I do hope they made the rope longer they shortened it in WOW
