View Full Version : Difference between W:A and WWP?
Hey there,
I was wondering, what are the differences in Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party? Which one is better? I heard of a patch that enables secret weapons and ability to change weaponry stats much like weapon editor in Worms 2. Is that true?
Not quite true.
The only benefits of WWP are wormpot and the mission editor.
WA gives you recorded replays of games, the ability to edit the superweapon ammo and delay, full colour maps online (and large map support will come with the next update), full support with Windows XP (not Vista yet, and that does't mean to say WWP doesn't work with XP) and more besides. I'd list all of them if I could remember them. And bug fixes. Loads of bug fixes.
Due to the patches, WA = far superior.
-EDIT- Being able to edit the weapons to the same extent as Worms 2 isn't in either, unless you get an old copy of WA and the fiddler, an external program that lets you do all kinds of crazy stuff with the weapons.
WWP has a handful of additional missions, more trainings and time trials, a bunch of multiplayer missions, the Wormpot options and the mission editor.
As far as single-player and local multiplayer goes it might be the better choice.
But if you want to play online, WA definitely is better because of online color maps, which for me was the main feature I switched from WWP to WA.
Also, some time in the future, with the release of the v4.0 patch, both WA and WWP will get merged, allowing to play with all features (and more) with either game CD.
For the time being, I'd say WA is the better game.

Well, but only if used in a multiplayer mission that all clients need to download externally.
Nothing compared to WA's PNG map support.

Not fair that WA is being patched but WWP isn't.
And WWP is the only one sold in shops here!
I'm not going to order Armageddon from Internet.

LOL ?!? >: D
Alright. Do you know perhaps when the patches will be released? Apart from the cool updates, I really need to fix the problem with my WWP running on XP. :(

Looks like you never heard of Cutworm ?
cutworm requires everyone to have it where as w:a you just play the damn game with no external fiddling.
W:A requires everyone to have an update. Only difference is that WA updates are official.
apply an update and forget about it, you never have to touch the update again ;P with cutworm you must ALSO run that everytime you wanna play a colour map.
Actually, the program runs automatically when you start your wwp. ;)
i suspected that >.>
w:a you dont have to touch another program when using colour maps.
WA_Update-3.6.26.5_Beta.exe is program ;)
you dont have to touch it everytime you wish to play on colour maps.

Rinse & repeat.
wait, er, um, so you dont have to touch cutworm at all to use colour maps online? you just run the game then simply load up a colour map?
W:A has a much better community. Even though WWPers claim the opposite and label the W:A with stereotypes ranging from arrogant to newb-unfriendly they do this because they have a lack of game-steem and need to make up for their feeling of inferiority.
They're generally younger and foreigner. More foreigner as in, more germans and polaks and less polite people. If you want to draw a connection do so, I haven't. Poland is ranked the number 1 stupidest country in the internet, I leave you with that fact onto the next paragraph.
They're more fanatic (they're kids from countries with fanatic backgrounds) and this shows they're much more closed minded when it comes to giving an objective valuation of both games, they are biased and won't doubt to bite if you say anything bad about their beloved game, but in the inside they know WA is much much better, pre beta and nowadays.

There are two methods of loading the wwp SuperBit color maps. 1.) You may load the SuperBit manually by selecting the file through CutWormLE's SuperBit "Run" feature. 2.) You may load the SuperBit automatically through use of a SeekerBit. Simply select the SeekerBit like you would any other *.bit file from within wwp, exit the map loader/editor screen, wait a few seconds for the SuperBit to download if needed and to load, and then start the game.
Really, this isn't much different from loading a color map in w:a. The only notable differences are that, as was mentioned before, CutWormLE has to run as a side program because it is an unofficial hack. It has some advantages over w:a's color map system, as well as its share of disadvantages.
yakuza: I really wish you would find a new topic to rant about. The wwp one is starting to get old and I feel as if I've read your same post at least 5 different times now.
ah ok, option 2 sounds awesome ;) but i don't play wwp simply because of the laggy front end. (no i dont wish to downgrade video drivers)

I'm not ranting, I'm giving a very well thought opinion I've acquired over the years . I don't care if you know my opinion already as this wasn't aimed exclusively at you.
If anyone out there is thinking about buying WWP or WA, he might want to read the opinion of someone who knows both communities very well and then take the right decision of buying W:A.
If you want to disagree with me in public please state reasons, if your only aim was to let me know that you already know what I think and that you don't like it you should have used the Pm function.

The war never ends...
Can't we just say they are both good?
;)
btw: I support WWP
Makes sense that a WWP'er would suggest peace. Not gonna happen! :p

You can't change my mind. I like WWP because I got it and it's the only one still sold in 300km around. And here's a fact: Some like Armageddon, some like World Party.

WWP may have more features, but:
More people have W:A
W:A is being patched (due to Deadcode having W:A and not WWP)
W:A has good colour support for maps
W:A has a larger internet community
Eventually the two will be merged, although this may take a very long time.
On a side note, WWP keeps more stuff on the CD than W:A does, making it more difficult to play around with.

No, no, no. The never ending debate is about which one of the games is objectively better. You may personally enjoy WWP more for whatever reason, but in that debate only solid reasoning counts. Without taking sides in the actual argument, I've personally seen much better reasons provided by the WA enthusiasts and would definitely pick it over WWP if I was an innocent soul looking for advice on which game to buy.
Oh and not having one of the games is not the best of reasons for liking the other better. In fact, in a proper WA vs. WWP thread you wouldn't even be entitled to an opinion! :p

Does wwp and wa have the same server for online play?
Does wwp and wa have the same server for online play?
Nope, but plans of merging the two communities sometime in the relatively distant future exist.
WA uses wormnet1.team17.com while WWP uses wormnet2.team17.com; they're both hosted on the same server machine, though, so when problems arise there's a good chance they'll both be down.

If that happens "in distant future", then WWP will be patched too "in distant future", because it wouldn't work without PNG map support and stuff. It would be fun. In the war WA vs WWP, I surrender. I'm gonna buy it.
EDIT: Found Worms 2 + Armageddon Double Pack from internet, should I buy if I can? Trustable site.

That's the right choice, son.

WWP allows online colour maps...
Im sure that WA got colour support, which really ruined games for me. They never felt the same again, such as the 2k shoppa. Whilst maps began conversion into colour, I haven't played WA in a long time.

Can you explain me the differences (that caused you to quit the game) between the same map in color, and with game texture?

Well, more frequent crashes and in-game hangs for one. The colour detracted from the fact worms seemed to blend into the background. From being the only colour on the map which had made them easier to spot.
Map loading times before a game has started also took MUCH longer that previously. Note this was at a time when I had dial-up, so colour maps usually ended up with my getting booted from a game.
I haven't quit the game as such. I just haven't a good reason to go back to it.
I might try it out after exams are finished though. See what im missing...
Crashes ingame have nothing to do with color maps, game doesn't crash unless you minimize, lagouts are totally different. Having a harder time to spot worms sounds like a mickey mouse excuse to me. About the dial up I totally understand that reason, however, are you still on dial up?
