When i start up Worms Armageddon in Windows XP, after patching it as well, it comes up with a plain black screen and then says 'Worms Armageddo has encountered a problem and needs to close' and then just gives me the option of sending an error report :( . Please help, i really want to play one of my favourite games again.
The error report is as such
AppName: wa.exe AppVer: 3.0.0.0 ModName: directx2d.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000023c7

You didn't patch it to the latest Beta version. Download and run this update installer (http://worms.thecybershadow.net/files/WA_update-3.6.26.5_Beta_Installer.exe).

Try closing any programs, services, processes etc. that aren't required for running the game.

Did you install a v3 patch before you installed the update linked above? Installing a v3 patch when it isn't necessary (some versions come pre-patched) might cause it not to work. Try reinstalling if you think you did.
Read the post. Cyb linked to his own automatic superfrantrabulous update installer, so it can't be that.
This probably won't work, but it's worth a try, right-click on your WA shortcut that you use most, go to properties, and in the "Target" box add /NOINTRO OUTSIDE the quotes, so it looks like this:
"C:\Team17\Worms Armageddon\WA.EXE" /NOINTRO

No, none of this works :( Its not like I even have a crap computer. I'm so annoyed with this. Any other suggestions?
Do you have a GForce 8800 graphics card? I don't know if this is a symptom of the 8800 issue but I don't know what else to suggest.

No i don't. I think theres just something wrong with my PC...coz it worked on my mates yesterday...I'll have to wait until I get my laptop then unless anybody else can suggest something.
Have you tried reinstalling WA? That might fix it.

Yeh, tried that about 3 times too
When reinstalling are you putting your old user folder back in? If you are then maybe try it without, just keep the clean one.
If that isn't it, maybe you should update your graphics card drivers or reinstall direct x, just judging by the "ModName: directx2d.dll" part of the error message.

By the sound of it, it appears to be the evil concoction of vileness and stupidity mixed with a shot of hate and a dollop of the word "mwhahahaha".
For those of you who don't know what that is, its the funky mixup of MFC and DirectX. If that is the problem, you have to wait till CyberShadow and Deadcode make the new frontend in W:A 4.0.
When that update materialises
If that update materialises.
Reminds you of Team Fortress 2 anybody?

Is the error report still the same?
AppName: wa.exe AppVer: 3.0.0.0 ModName: directx2d.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000023c7

He had the old 3.0 version, but later installed the Beta update.
did he overwrite all files with the new beta or just the exe?
I'm aware we should assume he ran your updater and it succeeded cybershadow.

Yeh, i did all of that as far as i know. Ill just sit and wait for this update then :(
I have the exact same problem :(
I notice the error message still says "AppVer: 3.0.0.0" even though I've installed the update linked to in this thread. That's probably not important but I figured I might as well mention it.

No, that's very important. You probably somehow failed at installing the update. Uninstall all copies of the game from your hard drive, re-install once, and apply the update (http://worms.thecybershadow.net/files/WA_update-3.6.26.5_Beta_Installer.exe).
It still doesn't work. The error message goes like this now:
AppName: wa.exe AppVer: 3.6.26.5 ModName: wa.exe
ModVer: 3.6.26.5 Offset: 000044a1
I've gotten it to work! Apparently my video adapter didn't have a driver installed. Or something like that. I asked Windows to find and install one for me and after one false start the game worked. Hooray!
visit www.ati.com or www.nvidia.com for the latest drivers for your video card ;P unless it's intergrated, then you'll need to visit your motherboards website...
i strongly recommend NOT using the video/sound drivers provided by windows.
