I haven't been active on these forums for ages, so hi everybody!
I'm estatic to see the sentry gun make a return! It was my favourite weapon in Worms 4. I wonder how it will make its transition into 2D? Will it function pretty much the same or will there be any tweaks to it? It seems like it could be an even more powerful weapon!
Also, are there offline stats, or do I have to play online?
I wish you guys at Team 17 the best of success with the release of this title, it looks like it has potential to be a must buy title for the PSP (and DS)!

How do the sentry guns work, never used em
in w4m, you plant a sentry gun and any non-your-team worms who move within the range get shot

automatically or can you actually try and dodge it?

You can hide behind scenery while if fires, as it can only fire one round every turn.

In W4 it had a "blind spot" right underneath it. That might be more prominent in 2D.

Sounds like the sentry guns in Team Fortress. :)

You can also try to make it hit its own team.

Is it possible to blow it up?
Wait, this is Worms, it would be strange if it wasn't possible...

supposedly you can "convert" the sentry guns with the lightning.

In W4M, if you stand in one spot the Sentry Gun won't notice you.
Also, if you damage the Sentry Gun, it won't be able to fire until next turn.
Sentry Guns IIRC have about 50-75 hitpoints.

if you damage it though, then you have wasted your turn anyways (except shotgun)

Not if you can damage it with a mine or something. (Which I'll grant you is pretty tough without setting it off.)

Easier with rope fishing though!

Sentry Gun fishing would be awesome.
Get it on a rope, and drop it in the sea. Or move it out of your way. Or whatever. Then, grab an electromagnet...

Sentry Gun fishing would be awesome.
The fun thing is: if it's not yours, you get shot, and if it's yours, it can be a bit too cheap...
Yeah...I'd prefer to be able to avoid sentry guns in 2D so this is good. :)

is the sentry gun going to be a utility? so meaning that you can drop it and it wont end your turn? and is there going to be a maxuim of sentry guns per team? becuse i like to play with all weapons set to unlimited ( except concrete donkey and HHG) so if there was no max of sentry guns , somebody could just drop about fifty of them on one turn ( if they are utiltys, which im hoping they are)
so mabye make them utiltys and have a maxuim of 3-5 per team? ( mabye we will be able to custimoze that number?)
I highly doubt everything you are hoping for. In Worms 4: Mayhem, each team could only have 1 on the level at any time. It also ended your turn when you placed it.
There's a very good reason for this. It's a pretty powerful weapon. If each team was allowed to place 3, you'd end up with 12 max on the level and wouldn't be able to move.
Looking at the videos, it ends your turn to place a magnet, so I'm certain the same will happen for sentry guns.

Standard Sentry-Gun tactic in a 3-player (and, by extension, 4-player) game:
Call the three teams A, B and C.
Team A places a Sentry Gun.
Team B now knows they cannot change their position within LoS of the Sentry Gun without setting off the Sentry Gun. They also know that the gun will not target worms on Team A. However, the Sentry Gun does not pick up aiming, and it can only fire once per turn.
Conclusion: If there is a worm on Team C within sight of the Sentry Gun, Team B will shoot that worm, causing it to move and set off the Sentry Gun. The Team C worm takes damage from both the original shot and the Sentry Gun.
If the Team B worm uses the Shotgun to shoot the Team C worm, they now get to move about and use their second shot as they wish.
Weaknesses:
* Obviously does not work in a two-player game, unless you are prepared to shoot one of your own team mates to trigger the Sentry (unlikely, but there may be such a situation where this is advna). Shooting the Sentry Gun with the Shotgun then becomes your best tactic.
* As above, sometimes there are no readily-available Team C worms to shoot. Shooting the Sentry Gun is your backup plan here.
* No direct revenge on Team A is possible (well, it is, provided you don't move. But it won't trigger the Sentry Gun)

I agree with you 100% but, team17 wouldn't allow that and there is a utillity that ends your turn and thats the girder.
I recently saw a screenshot for the PSP where worms wore hats but I looked at DS photos and the worms had no hats and I thought...TEAM17 BETTER PUT HATS IN FOR THE DS, THERE IS NO REASON WHY THERE CAN'T BE NEAT HATS THAT WORMS CAN WEAR FOR THE DS VERSION. THERE SHOULD BE HATS:mad:!!!
Yes, there is. The DS' resolution is too low, and hats would just look rubbish and indistinguishable.

Stop hijacking threads with this nonsense.
The technical solution that we used to make the WOW2 worms look so nice on the DS meant that we couldn't do hats as well. We think that the improvements in the rendering of the worms is well worth the small price we had to pay. It is how it is and cannot be otherwise.
Now stop.
