Is there any way of communicating with other players during a game on Wormnet?

Also, i don't know if this is connected, but during my last game, a red telephone kept appearing in the top left corner, anyone know what this means?

PageDown shows the Chat panel, PageUp hides it. The red phone appears when a new message is received.

If you're using the latest Beta update, the game would tell you this anyway.
