View Full Version : The dud-mine-exploding "fix"

Well, I've been meaning to post this for years but never got round to it. Before the fix you could explode dud-mines with baseball bats as the worm holding the bat would be in the mine as required. I think that's why it was put in. And after that fix it doesn't work. So could you reverse that "fix" beause it's quite cool when you're next to a low-health enemy and you have loads of health and you bat the mine and they die :p

Dud mines would also blow up when a worm is thrown through one, which was quite cool when there's a pit of a worm and a mine, you lob the grenade in and as the mine and the worm bounced around - if they bounced into each other it would blow.
This meant that a dud mine still wasn't safe which I liked.


But I was going to suggest making mines (all mines including duds that have been set off) have hit points and once they reach 0 - the mine explodes. You also wouldn't be able to see the HP.

Yeah, but have Baseball Bats make a 1-hit KO just for the sake of having it like the good ol' times.

Oh, seems like I have never used a baseball bat on a dud mine before the beta updates. :eek:

I have read about that feature multiple times and IIRC even some expert tips from the teamsters on the official page mention it, but I could never recreate it. :-/

Before the fix, the only way you could get a dud mine to explode was by having it in the exact same spot as the centre of a worm.

Which includes hitting it with the bat as then the mine is inside the bat & worm as a whole.

First time i saw this happen was when i was minigunning a dud and a worm into a corner... at first i thought the mine was taking damage somehow and eventually "dying" http://www.nanacide.com/images/Emoticons/downs.gif

If you mean to say that while the worm is batting, its collision mask extends to cover the objects in the batted area, then it's not so - those objects are simply applied an acceleration (and some damage).

I remember that in worms 2, the tombs had hp, and they exploded after some hits. Something like dud mine hp could be done, too... (or for normal ones too, without triggering them) It should be high, and not being able to see it, though...

Or there could be a special kind of barrel that just absorbed hit points from explosions, until it reached a predetermined level (which the players aren't told in advance) and releases them, or a fraction of them, all at once in one big bang.

No, actually, that's a silly idea.

No, actually, that's a silly idea.

It's not that a bad idea, but explosions should move it... that way, it would be fun to risk and throw it to the water or on enemy worms...

i thought that hitting a dud mine with a bat changed the properties of the dud mine so that it explodes instantly the next time it touches something... so you hit it, it gets changed, it cant get hit by the bat again so it flies along and kablamo it hits a wall/worm/barrel/whatever...

it wasn't ridiculously easy to pull off either... you had to aim up enough for the mine not to hit the ground immediately in front of where it lies or else you hurt/kill yourself.

I used to be able to kill dud mines with the handgun. no worms involved... not sure what happened to that

i've never seen that... was that under a version of worms 2 prior to v1.05 and newer?

i remember pushing mines with it to **** people off but not blowing dud mines...
