The game they showed was LittleBigPlanet, a user designed playground, a make-your-own-platformer tool, an actual game with deep physics that looks beautiful and shockingly fun to play. If you really need comparisons, the game is like Line Rider meets Garry's Mod meets Super Mario Bros. meets an orgasm.
This seriously changed my opinion on the PS3. Hype? Probably. A potentially great game that might spawn other unrealistic yet entertaining games just like it? Damn straight. I always thought the PS3's launch needed more variety.

Watched it, looks neat, I guess.
Luckily, I never managed to be any good at the above-mentioned games.
Whoa, that looks and sounds fantastic! And I agree with Iguana... it's JUST what the PS3 needed - something different, unrealistic and FUN.

That seems absolutely, incredibly fantastic.
Now if Sony can make more games like that, the system might be actually worth it.
Despite reading the stuff and watching the video, I'm slightly confused.
So it's a platform game with a level editor where you can have up to 4 people play at once and the main characters can grab stuff?
It does look awesome though. The graphics are superb!
Yeah, there don't seem to be enough games that are just FUN anymore. And when the 360 and the PS3 come out costing about half a grand... I started to think the game industry was now just a graphics and hardware show. But this game looks fantastic. Its graphics seem to support the game, not the other way around.

Indeed. People are so dumb that forgot what they were making: GAMES.

That looks so awesome. I love Garry's Mod, and I love Loco Roco, so this is the perfect game for me. Now, if only I had a PS3...it's tempting, actually.
Excellent!!! Just before I went off an bought it (PS3 not littlebigplanet) It's awesome btw.
Wow. You can see the Sony demonstration here, with the level building and stuff: http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=17602&type=mov&pl=game

So this is what they were working on all that time...
Now, if their little avatars can make the bloody world editor for Rag Doll Kung Fu that was due out a year ago, I'll be impressed.
Delayed feature-related cynicism not-with-standing, I'm impressed. It has to be handed to Mark Healey and crew for their ingenuity and, well, excellence.

Because right now its selection is just rather sad.
But if Sony says that games like this are part of their philosophy, and if enough people buy it, then there'll probably be more games like this coming around.

What IS Garrys mod?
Do you live under a rock? It's a HL2 mod that let's you play with elements of the game, like spawning characters or ragdolls, posing them, spawning objects and stuff, creating your own weapons and a lot more stuff that I can't be arsed to remember...
For more information, Google is your friend.

Has to be said, that is pretty impressive - both in terms of physics and a brilliant "80s childrens television" feel to the graphics - and it's a definite plus mark for Sony. It also throws down an interesting counterargument to fanboys of all sides.
Still wouldn't convince me to buy a PS3, mind. One game does not reverse the supreme amount of idiocy and arrogance displayed by Sony in recent years. But it's certainly A Good Thing.

3rd Gen. Meaning, Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3. Not strictly the Exact Third Generation of consoles, but 3rd Gen now means "Rivalling Computers In Terms Of Graphics".

Eh? Surely :
1st Gen = NES, all those other ones which I can't remember
2nd Gen = SNES, Mega Drive (Genesis for you Americans)
3rd Gen = N64, PS1, Saturn
4th Gen = GC, PS2, XBox, Dreamcast(?)
5th Gen = Wii, PS3, XBox 360

Nope. It goes back further. We are currently in the 7th Generation.
1st - PONG and the first set of VG stuff
2nd - Early Atari Stuff
3rd - Later Atari stuff and NES
4th - SNES, Megadrive
5th - Amiga, Playstation, Nintendo64
6th - PS2, Gamecube, XBox
7th - PS3, Wii, XBox 360
The Dreamcast was either 6th of 5th, not quite sure.
Obviously I've left a lot out, the early generations were before I was born.

Dreamcast is 6th: introducing net play (far 'lesser' than the other 6th gen consoles of course :P)
And 'Generation 0' is 'Chase' :)

Actually, it was somewhat like that here. I mean, they existed, and that, but were never that popular. At least, I think they were wrong with the NES, wich should have been in, but the others were like casual toys :p

If they made it more cartoony, it could have been way more customizable, it would need less space, and it could be funnier. But the idea seems good...
Anyways, if that's one of the reasons of it getting a price of 600... They should get stabbed. Because it's something not all people will like :p
I'm sorry, but what the hell is the piont in that Home thing? Really, what? What a total waste of money. If the PS3 is $600 because of extra features like that, then Sony are total idiots.
I'm really starting to hate Sony, they get all the good japanese RPG's on thier console, but then make everything suck and cost a lot. Now I think even more lowly of them.
You can probably tell that I'm not impressed in the slightest by that. In fact, I find it laughable.
No more going offtopic, especially when there's a thread for the subject you're discussing (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=31935).

Wait, what does Nintendo have to do with a PS3 exclusive platform game?
I was talking about how long different consoles had lasted according to those charts, rather than littlebigplanet.
My phrasing could have been better, bleh, I was tired
Basically, the graph shows SNES lasting ages, N64 not so long and GameCube shorter still (mentally I followed this trend onto the Wii, and thought happy thoughts of laughing at fanboys with no games to play)
On the other hand, PS1 lasted longer than its competition, PS2 lasted longer still, also longer than its competition (again, following this trend forward this looks good for PS3 :p)
I might be wrong, that was from memory
My point was that this thread was/is still going horribly offtopic.

Didn't you learn anything at school? Quality, not quantity ;)
In all fairness, the PS3 is doing just as crappily as the Wii right now, lack of games and all. In fact, I feel like sticking to my DS/PS2/GC for a great deal of this generation.

Even if it's systems aren't lasting as long as they used to (Because there's actual competition now, unlike many years ago), Nintendo is still making more money than both Microsoft & Sony's game department. They aren't "losing ground".

that looks absolutely amazing! I would absolutely love to play that, but the PS3 is gunna take a LOT of work before I'm swayed over to the Sony camp. too much money and too many bugs right now, but if this is what we can expect in t future of the system, I may well own one at some point down the road.
