I am at my wits end!!!

ARRRGH!

I keep getting completely random things where my computer stops responding to any input device, and stops all output, so it looks like a crash. But, it's not listed in the error logs, because windows is still running in the background! This is really beginning to bug me, because it just happens at random, usually when I'm doing something critical. My system specs?

AMD Athlon XP 2500+
1.8 GHz, 512MB of RAM.

It started doing this at the end of febuary, for no reason at all.
This is really getting me down. I have no spyware, adware, malware, viruses or anything because I have checked....I didn't install anything extra, either. This is making me REALLY annoyed. Could anyone help?

Kill all the background programmes? Do a system restore to back before it happened? Re-install windows?

Did you add anything to your computer towards the end of February? If so, close it and see if it solves it.

I had a problem where Medieval II kept minimising, closed a program I recently installed and it worked fine.

Well, I do recall installing AVG 7.5.1, but that shouldn't be the problem...but it fits. Before the crashes started I had AVG 7.1, and it said I HAD to upgrade, and it stopped working. So I did. The even stranger thing is that, most of the crashes happen when my LAN is on...so AVG must be trying to protect the laptop too, but crashes in a failed attempt...
