Hi, i know about lots of worldwide famous games, the question is.... Who is better... Super mario, jumping and jumping and juuuuumpiiiiing... Sonic the Hegdehog, with all his speed, or.......... W-O-R-M-S with all the destruction and the bazookas and the guns? And then, who is better?

Well, if you go by originals, maybe, but both those franchises died a death years ago, so there's a case to be made that perhaps they weren't as great as all that...

You can't ask "Which is better, two platform games or one turn-based strategy game?" That's like asking "Which is better, pork or denim?"

True, but I was bought up playing JJ and Earthworm Jim, rather than Sonic and Mario, so they probably have more of a classic status to me than anyone else. Sonic and Mario still rule of course.

It's a tough choice, but I'll go for Sonic.

I still play Jazz Jackrabbit 2 today. Online even.

I still listen to the Beatles. What's your point?

A computer can't really die.
Whereas 1/2 of the Beatles actually are dead (3/4 if you believe in conspiracy theories) and they have disbanded.
You (highly likely) won't be hearing new original Beatles music or see them live, two things that make the essence of a music group. You can still play Jazz Jackrabbit though.
Also, the original poster asks wich is "better", not which was more popular or which lost it's fanbase faster.

You won't be playing any new Jazz Jackrabbit games, either, though, will you? That's what I mean: on individual games that has a chance, but as a franchise a couple of platformers just won't stand up against the might that is Mario, with its dozen or so platformers and successful sports and driving lines. Asking "which is better" is a simple sentence but a notoriously difficult thing to define, and you end up with people arguing who in fact would agree had the original question been less ambiguous.
Also, the original poster asks wich is "better", not which was more popular or which lost it's fanbase faster.
Do you not consider longevity a factor that contributes to which is "better"? I do. A platform game gets old if you can't play new levels occasionally. That's why I almost never play Mario Brothers any more but I played through New Super Mario Brothers so fast when I got that.

Uh, Jazz jackrabit 2 has a level editor.
And a dedicated fan base.
And an online battle mode.
Your point harms your case.
it has to be sonic or mario. But it is not easy to choose. i love them both, music wise, gameplay wise, creative wise, originality wise....
No I am gonna say mario. mario 64 edged out sonic for me, and tipped the balance

So did Worms Reinforcements, and they've released no fewer than six sequels to that. And sold them all. There's more to it than new levels.

I'd vote Worms, but Sonic is losing, and we can't have Mario beating him now can we? ;)

A strategic life simulator will "***" two platformers and a cartoony turn based strategy/action game?

Okay then.

Well, if a cartoony turn based strategy game is being compared with two platformers, then surely Spore should be allowed as well :p

Jazz Jackrabbit FTW! :D I play JJ2 nearly everyday. I like to download some new levels off www.jazz2online.com
Anyway, out of those three, I can't really decide. I like ALL of them.

I think this topic missed the point from the start.
I doubt we'll come out of this conversation saying: "wow, I'm convinced. Sonic/Mario/Worms is definitely better than [???]. let's all go tell everyone."
it's about as likely to reach a point as your average console war.
sorry.
True, but isn't that what makes it so great?
Anyway, console wars are utterly pointless. I'm always right about consoles so if you need to know the truth, just ask.

He's misguided and insane -- that's different from stupid. And at least he isn't stomping all over our childhood memories to make money. The new Simpsons episodes are almost pure stupid, in its liquid form.

Pfft, at least they're funny, the old ones are just stupid jokes (not that thats a bad thing)
Are you saying the new Simpsons episodes are funny?
You earn a SUPER FAIL.
Seriously, it's been years since I think that the Simposons has produced a really funny episode. The occasional laugh, yes, but not a funny episode. That one where they got that racehorse was one of the worst episodes I've seen, and all the horror/halloween specials are just terrible.
Gone are the days when Bart tries to jump over Springfield Gorge and other such classic episodes.
Any future discussion of this goes in the cartoon thread.
