Supposedly Worms Armageddon doesn't run properly on Windows Vista. Seeing as that's the one that actually gets patched and updated, I'd say that the odds of WWP working on Vista are almost nil.

Well, unless somebody else decides to somehow patch it. I doubt there'll be anything official.

I have 1 small/big problem. The colors are mesed up :( In the menu everything is fine, but in the game the wrong color-palette is loaded. Some people had problems with this in XP, but there was always another program running, that screwed up the colors. I'm not running anything :(

Can someone help me?

I'm running this in ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, Vista Business.

vista is buggy with old games hence why you get the colour bug.... if you look around you will see many posts in many threads talking about the colour bug in vista.... only way to solve it at the moment is to go back to winXP or earlier.

Right click on the wwp.exe file and select properties. Then select to use compatability mode for Windows 98 or 2000. This would also fix the problem for Windows XP users who can't get the game to work either.

Different copies of vista and hardware setups seem to run WA/WWP with varying degrees of success. I have no idea why, but this seems to be that case.

I am not going to get vista until it's less buggy. It looks awesome but it probably won't run my favourite games which are old.

Compatibility mode for Windows 2000 works for me (running Vista Ultimate, AMD 64 3500+ and a GeForce 7800GTX)

Initially the game would run but I'd have psycho colours and it would run awfully slow, compatibility for XP SP2 did no good but Win 2000 gets the game running with a proper display. Now all I have to do is fix the sloooow menus...

On 640x480 resolution WWP runs just fine on Vista. If I set the resolution to 800x600 or 1024x768 the colors are all messed up

If i use any compatibility mode, the problem with the color is the same. Playing on 640x480 is hard and annoying :(

There has been an unknown error!

If you are running windows 2000, you may need a user with more privileges. please contact your system administrator.

If the problem persists, please contact the customer support center to solve the problem.

I've got Vista Home Premium end playing with admin. I've already turned combability to Windows 98/NT

One thing you may to have do in Vista to get it to work is right click on the setup.exe & choose "Run as administrator", I've had several programs that would not load, act funny etc, until I installed them this way. I finally went in & turned off the User Account Control & haven't had any problems with any other program installs personally.

I have a big problem when installing, so I'm not even near the stage you guys are at. I have a $old Out Software copy of WWP and after the language selection in the installation is gives me a kernel error:

Error installing iKernel.exe: (0x10000)

I have no idea what could be causing this. I have Windows Vista Home Premium, 2.0ghz CPU (AMD Turion 64), 1.25gb RAM, 256mb shared grpahics memory.

If compatibility mode doesnt work:
Download Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (google for it) and install win xp/98 n run worms from there.
Thing is, it emulates 8Mb of graphics vram, so Im not sure how high the rez will go. The game should deffnitly be playable tho.

I also recently upgraded to Vista to find Worms World Party no longer works. Setting Compatability Mode to 98/2000 does nothing, nor does 256 Colors and running as Administrator. I also get insane slow down, literally 2fps.

I can't explaine the slowdown but the Color corruption could be fixed in less than five minutes by a programmer at Team17. (Just need to run in 16-32bit and stop using stupid Color Palats)

Also I'd like to point out that Team17 have actually certified Worms World Party for Vista!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
THESE GAMES HAVE NO DIFFICULTY RUNNING UNDER WINDOWS VISTA(TM).

Worms World Party and Worms3D come together in a fantastic compilation of classic worming.

Here's your invite to the Worms World Party, Team17s latest turn-based gift in which worms battle across zany custom or randomly-generated landscapes.

https://secure.team17.com/browse.html?area=search&keyword=Worms%20World%20Party

What the hell are they playing at, I was annonyed enough when Worms World Party wouldn't run on my new mobile phone as it wasn't compatable with Windows Mobile 5, now I can't even play it on my PC without using a Virtual Machine.

Also to the guy who posted to use Microsoft Virtual Machine, try vmWare Server, its free, a hell of alot faster and it allows alot more VRAM.

WA has been undergoing updates for years now and it STILL hasn't had this change made to it. I don't know how exactly the code works, but it's definately not a 5 minute job.

P.S. Do you have good drivers? I experienced extreme slowdown on a game once, due to my drivers not supporting OpenGL, but WWP uses DirectDraw so this may not be your problem.

UndeadDevi
25 May 2007, 22:45
I am using the latest nVidia Drivers for 32-bit Vista.

Your right, it might not be a five minute job, it all depends on how the code has been written, I can't even remember the DirectX 7 API's these days.

Is there any hope of them releasing a patch? Like I said, they are claiming that Worms World Party runs fine on Vista.

Melon
25 May 2007, 22:54
I think the nVidia driver is the problem. From what I've read, nVidia driver + Vista + WWP = Non-working WWP, but somebody else may be able to clear that up.

There isn't going to be a patch for WWP. Not at all. None. Not a sausage. Eventually, WWP and WA will be merged and you'll be able to play the mega-WA version with your WWP disc, but that could take years, so it's currently not a practical solution.

WWP seems to run fine on Vista for some people. Try closing other programs that are running at the same time, some with the "always-on-top" feature seem to steal palette colours sometimes.

Kind of....

I was running Vista Ultimate on a Quad Core Intel Processor.

I tried to run it in compatibility mode, as admin, and even with lower res. Nothing worked.

Then I installed VPC and set it up as win98 with 128MB of Ram and 8Mb of Video and it finally ran like that, but one huge drawback... Could not play LAN Games. For some reason it wouldnt work even though I could browse with the VPC setup and all other networking functions seemed to work.

So between this and many other issues I have had, I ditched Vista (very hard decision because much of it is nice) and went back to Windows XP.

You should have used vmWare Server, its a much better than Microsofts piece of crap Virtual Machine.

Networking would have worked fine.
Sound would have been alot better
Graphics would have been perfect, thanks to it literally sharing your Graphics Card memory. Hell vmWare's can even render 3D!

I now play Worms through vmWare, I saved the state of the Virtual Machine so its literally a click of button and i'm in Worms Instantly.

Indeed. With all my troubleshooting and constent tests this seems to have a lot to do with it as well.

Not to mention NVIDIA drivers for Vista where causing a lot more issues than just WWP.

Not happy with them about the lack of suitable drivers. Yet another reason why I went back to XP

I found a way to fix the colors on the Worms Armageddon board.

Set the program to Windows XP combatibility w/ SP 2. Then open the folder containing containing the executable and run it WITHOUT closing Windows Explorer (the WWP folder).

Yes, strangely enough, you need to keep the folder open while you play the game. I tried running WWP from the folder and quickly closing the Windows Explorer while the game loaded, but it would mess up the colors unless I left that folder open.

I actually managed to get WWP to run properly on my PC with Vista. Before it was running at about 3fps when I ran the game and after trying *everything* I finally found the problem.

I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and it ran like a charm. It seems the default windows drivers are your best bet to run WWP. Modern games still run fine too, I'm playing company of heroes on the default Vista drivers and it runs just as well as it did with the Nvidia ones.

In short, they aren't optimised and until they are, I'll be using the Vista drivers 'till Nvidia can get their act together.

This one stumped me for a while.... one of the first problems I found was it would keep crashing after I chose my game type. To fix that I realized that when the installer ran it didn't copy over everything it needed to the data directory in C:\Team17\Worms World Party\data so I copied everything out of the data folder on the cd and into the said dir and it worked great! The next problem I had was the colors were messed up and the game was way too slow! I am running Windows Vista x64 bit Business and Windows Vista x32 bit Vista and it did the same thing on both machines. I have a GeForce 7900 sli setup on my first computer and a GeForce 6800 in my other machine. My friend has a GeForce 8800GTX in his system and Worms runs fine on it. He mentioned that he has beta drivers installed on his machine and so I tried to go back a few versions to an older driver set that nvidia put out and see if that fixed it and it worked. The driver version I used was the "97.46_forceware_winvista_x64_internatonal_whql" driver. its older but the game works flawlessly. I never did try the early 100 before the latest 158.24 that is out... That will have to be another project. Hope this helps.

That is the exact same problem I have. I have an ACER laptop with Windows Home Premium. I have 2 gig of ram and 160 gig of internal hdd space (about 100 gig free). I have the Intel duo core 1.86 gigahertz processor. The graphics drive is the same as the afformentioned one (Intel GM965 chipset). I get the exact same error. If you let windows "troubleshoot" the problem in an attempt to find a solution, it merely finds nothing.
I have my old windows 98 CD from way back when and I installed 98 on the my Virtual Machine. WWP doesn't work there either for some reason. I don't get any errors. It just doesn't load. Screen doesnt' change or anything. I'm sure it's something odd that I'm missing. I'd rather have it running on vista though.
I'm gonna go try to fix this now.
If anyone has any successful runs of WWP on their windows vista computer with the same graphics driver as mine, please let me know.

I think this is a Intel Onboard Graphics Chipset problem. At home I can play WWP on my VISTA using my GeForce 8800 but at work it doesn't work on VISTA.

I am having the same issue. WWP will not load. Screen flickers on load, then worms crashes...
From what I have gathered from differant forums all over the internet, the problem seems to be the intel graphics chips. I myself have one, sadly enough. That seems to be the one consistency. That being said, yeah, the Nvidia graphics drivers cause it to not work, but once you update the drivers to he new beta drivers, it works fine. So far though, no intel graphics chipset driver updates have fixed the problem. I am still working on this...
The funny thing though is that when you disable the graphics driver (intel), windows naturally defaults to it's built in graphics driver. Worms still does not work which leads me to belive that it is not intel. There are no running processes that can stop it from running because i have tried running my system at bare minimum running programs and services and it still does not work. Compatibility mode does not work either.
This realy seems to be a pinch. I have absolutely no clue what to do. All of my other games work, but worms does not. I am crossing my fingers and waiting for service pack one to come out in november. Hopefully the 50,000 program compatability fixes will include WWP. Sigh...

I have a compaq laptop with geforce go 6150 running vista home premium 32-bit. with nvidia drivers that come from hp it would work fine in 640x480 but any other res it wouldn't load any colors at all or crash completely.

I tried everything on this forum and uninstalling nvidia drivers is what worked for me(don't even have to run the game in compatibility mode). after uninstall and reboot, i installed wwp, applied sp1 and ran it. the colors in the menu were terrible, it was like it was using only 16 colors but i tried loading a game anyway. when the map was loaded the colors were fine. i quit and the colors in the menu returned to normal. changed to highest res and it worked. haven't tried multiplayer but so far it's working flawlessly.

My computer runs Vista, I have an integrated Intel video card. I haven't tried any other games yet, but I do know that Worms2 runs with messed up colours about half the time, and runs fine otherwise. However, if I make it show a replay of a shot, going into replay mode fixes the colours somehow. I have no idea why. Maybe give that a shot? Just press the 'r' key after any shot that does damage and it'll show a replay, and on my machine that fixes it. Mostly.

In my case the worms are usually green-ish and other things can be messed up. However, sometimes some colour in the landscape is messed up, and wherever this one colour shows up it's wrong. So a particular shade of brown or so will show as red or something, and the replay does NOT fix this.

I had the same exact problem, I fixed it by installing a different version of worms.. perhaps your version is incomplete if it's not an original game cd or copy of one?

Which version of worms did you install then?
Thanks for help

Maybe you could find unofficial patches. But it would be hard, I don't think there is a patch for Windows Vista.

I seem to be one of the many with an Intel Chipset that is having "Worms Wrold Party has stopped working" on starting the game. I get the feeling that, yes, it may be the card, but what has me really beat, is that I can run Worms 2 w/o a hitch, it occasionally goes all weird shades of grey, but otherwise works fine...:-/

I'm rather getting the feeling that it's definitely an 'Intel' problem rather than anything else... I've installed WWP, Armageddon and Mayhem.... and all three have failed to run - even though they have installed properly...!
Yes, it's an Intel dual core 1.8Ghz ram, directX 10 laptop running Vista home premium ........... barely 3 weeks old....! ;)

I've gone through everything that can be done without downloading anything other than the recent patches...

My other PC is 7 years old, also with an Intel chip - yet... it runs worms absolutely flawlessly - even though I know it's on its last legs... hehehe!

I guess it'll be just a matter of time before all these issues can/will be sorted out... I live in hope :D

I am convinced that its the Intel drives. Me too I am having problems running it on a new laptop with a Intel 945gms Chipset. I am runing that on a HP dv2418ca Laptop (with vista). Also, for me too worms 2 works flawlessly!!

BTW I hate intel

Hello, i found a way for my PC. :D
I close all unimportant tasks like ICQ...
After that i open the taskmanager and kill all "explorer.exe"
Now i start WWP with File-> New Task(translate from German).

And the colors are perfekt in 640x480.

My PC:
ASUS A6Ja
Intel 1,6 Ghz Dualcore
ATI X1600 Mobility
Vista Ultimate
Aero deactivte

Similar experience to others. I did get it running on Vista Ultimate with Intel Dual Core processor and an nVidia 8800 video card. Will run only in 640x480 resolution. At 800x600 or 1024x768 the cake will not be visible and the colors will all be scrambled when the game begins. Sounds and music are fine on HDAudio motherboard sound.

Played several matches and it's workable, if not optimal. Running latest nVidia drivers, as of today. Put the game in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode, but I don't think that makes any difference.

I haven't been able to fix this problem. I have Vista Business and a 945GM video card on my laptop.

Maybe you can emulate it somehow.
