So I've been away this weekend visiting friends of the family up in Doncaster. Their 11 year-old son thinks I'm ace and, by extension, thinks Worms is also ace. So I picked him up copies of Worms 2, Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party (£10 for all three on the Sold Out label, and I treated myself to a replacement copy of Worms Blast at the same time for no additional cost) so that when I move to AMerica we can still play Worms over the web. We installed all three and I set up WA so that it ran at a nice, sizeable resolution.

I noticed a glitch during one of the games - an AI Worm appeared to move down one pixel and left one pixel - so I emailed myself the replay. But as my monitor doesn't support the insanely high resolution I set for their copy of WA, the replay doesn't display for me. That's obviously something that needs adjusting for the update.

Anyway, I've attached the replay. The glitch appears to happen some time after the 8 minute mark to a worm named Jarvis (I watched it again at their place before we left, I've not long been back in Luton) but I can't double-check this because of the replay resolution.

Happens at precisely 9:40, for any future researchers.

Not quite sure where I've seen that before, but I think I have. Could it be the same thing that makes teleporting worms by mashing the right two or three keys [two arrow keys and shift] possible? Probably not, since the AI doesn't moonwalk. Weird. Don't really have the time to look into now, though.

As for your resolution problem, I'm sure replays aren't saved in any resolution. They're just lists of key presses, a map and a scheme file as far as I know. Shouldn't have a problem running a replay at any resolution. The more I think about your problem, the more it seems to me like I completely misunderstood what you said. Ah well.

The resolution must be saved in the replay, because I can play every other replay I have on my computer. This replay came from another computer and was recorded at a much higher resolution - ony I know my computer can't handle.

Replays don't store the resolution, Ben. I just played that back in 640x480 on my W:A, and it worked fine. Buggered if i know why it doesn't work on yours though.

most likely you don't have the latest version Squirminator.

edit: the computer most likely stepped a pixel backwards.

What is it with you and your shameless assumptions?

By the frequency that the link to nanacide.com/wahelp gets posted here on the forum, even someone living on the moon has heard of the beta updates, yet you assume that Squirminator2K hasnt.
edit: the computer most likely stepped a pixel backwards.
Yeah, most likely.

Yeah, you're probably right. Maybe I should [put the latest BETA update on my website (http://www.dream17.co.uk/softography.php?id=40&s=downloads)] or something. I wonder if Team 17 will [use my site as a mirror (http://wa.team17.com/main.html?page=supp&area=upda&file=15)]?

Yes, I'm sure that's it...

What happens when you try to play this replay?

For the record, resolution is not stored in replays in any way. And I can playback that replay fine even at 640x480. The glitch happens at exactly 9:40.52, and I've seen that phenomenon before, but never thought to look into it. Apparently the worm moved backwards 2 pixels in one frame, and I don't know why or how. I will figure it out — thanks for posting. :)

When I load the replay, my monitor goes into Standby mode - which it will usually do only if the computer is turned off or if the computer's resolution or refresh rate is set to a value it cannot display. I can still hear the game going on in the background. I have to Alt+F4 to exit.

Edit: It didn't work when I loaded it from the email I sent to myself, but it works if I download and open the attached "version" at the top of this thread. Hmm.

I can still hear the game going on in the backgroundThis, however, is bizarre... maybe it's a different bug. The launching bug just gives an error or crash instead of playing a replay.

[snip] The glitch appears to happen some time after the 8 minute mark to a worm named Jarvis. The CPU cheats after it walks; if it didn't get to the precise location it wanted, it "teleports" there. Why it sometimes doesn't get to where it intended, like at 9:40.52 in your replay, I'm not sure yet.

Is there not some sort of discrepency which occurs in the dinstance between worms and the terrain?

I'm sure I've heard something about a 4 pixel margin for error or something.

Cheating scumbag computer!
