although i have downloaded an original version from the official WA site, and patched it up, when i attempt to host or connect to a game on wormnet i couldn't. My version is a non CD version so i assume it does not need an update. when i asked the people playing on the wormnet to try to connect the game i'm hosting, they couln't connect either. They say that there was a message saying that the apponent has an in appropriate version of the game. (the same message that i get.
Can anyone explain this to please . . ?
my version is a recent one, 1 week ago !!
Is your copy a legal one (that is, you've paid for it?)
If so, is it the trymedia copy?
If it is, you're screwed. The trymedia copy can't be patched, so you can't play online with it. My advice, get your money back and by a CD version. The CD version even happens to be CHEAPER than the trymedia copy!
Which game are you talking?
AFAIK, except for W:A, all Trymedia versions are up to date and don't need to be patched.
The Trymedia version of W:A is on v3.0.5.0, the latest official patch. The beta updates don't work with it.
I think T17 should remove the link to the Trymedia version of W:A until the v4.0 patch is released and Trymedia have updated.

so what can a paying customer of team 17 do if he purchased a try media version sans cd, and wants to play online but can't patch to catch up with the rest of the WA world? i don't recall being forewarned before the site accepted my credit card number.. forgive me if i'm a little upset about that.

You can ask trymedia or whoever you bought it from to give you a refund. If that fails then call your credit card company and request a chargeback. I agree that the problem should be fixed or the game removed or at least a warning message.
Use this form (http://csc.trymedia.com/csc/refund_request/publisher=team17/contentid=90e9b1d2c4c85ae675f1822345339973/offering=20m_d_uk_p3050b/affiliate=trygames/index.html) to request a refund for WA.
It won't work, as with every (except online only games I suppose) game that has online play the action of buying the game is subject to any changes done to the online aspect, this includes not being able to play online or something as radical as shutting the servers down, you can't legally ask for a refund if this is the case as no company can assure online play for each and every user, I know it's not the exact case but hey, you were just unlucky. It's probably there in the user agreement in one way or another, in the end, you can only ask for a refund if the CD/DVD malfunctions.
But you might be lucky and they might give you a refund either way, but your chances are slim, unless of course, this said company allows refunds for reasons such as product dislike etc... But I believe the most you'll get is a coupon.
I wonder how many people have asked for a refund for the trymedia... If a bunch of people would join together and send it back in one big package with a huge complaint, maybe someone will open his/her eyes over there...
