Funny how he used to go on about how the Wii is going to be a niche console 'for the younger crowd' (or something like that) and Sony is their true adversary just a few months ago.

Bill Gates can read sales figures and determine which of two numbers is twice as big as the other? Well done him.

[Microsoft can]... ride a silicon cost-reduction curve faster than Sony can.

That is such a wonderful image.

Toughest competition? The 360 shouldnt even be IN the competition.
Everything it can do, PS3 does better.

Competition is PS3 and Wii, which are both entirely different. PS3 diet 360 is nothing.

That's not strictly true, is it? For one thing, it's been released and there are a reasonable amount of them on the shelves (and more to the point, they're different ones every month or so). For another, it's $200 cheaper. And it has more games. And I think XBL is rather better than the PS3's online system.

I am happy to know that nintendo is the biggest competition. I am not a huge fan of microsoft because of windows, but I dont mind the 360. It is sony I despise.

Well at the CES show, Microsoft has shown it's plans to make the 360 and the new Vista, compatible. Not a huge surprise, but the things they were showing were pretty cool. PS3 can't do that.
The main problem with the 360 and the PS3 though, is that they aren't really going for gaming and fun, but just trying to be more impressive than one another. While Nintendo is just going for new/fun/creative etc. And thus kicking both of it's competition in the nuts with sales. If I wanted a realistic game that you drive in, I'd just go drive my car. Gas is expensive and all, but it's still cheaper than paying far out the ass for a $600 system with graphics that are only so realistic. :p

What about sell? :pPAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!! well said! well said indeed!

and *splinter* the 360 can do everything the PS3 can do plus it's $200 cheaper, has a well-established online system that works rather well, and is soon to be directly playable with a vista computer. the PS3 is a PS2 with awesome graphics and a wii-wannabe controller. granted, it's more powerful thant he PS2, but no more innovative. the 360 and the Wii are both innovative. and so the race goes on.

It cant do as much as the PS3 and it isnt $200 cheaper?

And to *other person* there are more 360s because its been out a year longer (thus price is lower as well)

No but you CAN put linux on it, and you can link it to your psp allowing you to access all your pics/music/etc any time

What about sell? :p

PS3 only came out recently? I dont remember all this chaos in US for the 360?

It cant do as much as the PS3 and it isnt $200 cheaper?uh.....yes it can and yes it is? PS3 = $600. 360 = $400. and the technical specs are very well known. the PS3 beats the 360 but not by that much. you could argue that the bluray makes it much more powerful, but no one's going to be using the bluray to full effect and you know that as well as I do. aside from that they offer pretty much the same things. difference being that the PS3's controller has a built-in motion sensor to allow for a few flight sims and little else other than gimmicky crap like they tried with marvel ultimate alliance. unless the controller "expansion" (of sorts) succeeds in allowing for Wii-like gameplay, the PS3 doesnt' offer anything the 360 doesn't.

I think the Blu-ray makes it extremely expensive, a Blu-ray drive for a computer is like 900 Euros. But why the hell blu-ray? Like there are gonna be games of 50 Gb, I think it's completely stupid, Also Blu-ray disks are very expensive. Why didnt they just make some kind of Double-layered DVD drive? Maybe it's faster. but I think its too expensive...

But hey, why do I care, I hate all consoles but the PS1, because you can play Crash Bash on it.

Bluray is 25GB, Resistance uses 22GB and the PS3 is less than half a year old

It's Blu-Ray because Sony want to push Blu-Ray, so that it beats HD-DVD to become the successor to DVD. But it won't work because nobody seems that bothered about either, and those that are are generally holding off until a winner emerges, because they all know people who bought Betamaxes in the 80s and don't want to look silly.

Or maybe thats dual layered or something.

Oh, wells.

Oh and there was this new technology I once heard of, wich could make things of 50 GB to 8 GB.

And some bright spark's invented a player that does both, making them all look silly, while the people who made the betamax are probably sick to death of the comparison. :p

I think that's the most wonderful thing about the connectivity.

"Look! I can pick a file, put it on the PS3!!! And then to the PSP!!! or add it directly from my PC. Choices are wonderful"

Or they do something for it, or it will be like the GBA-GC connectivity, and it failed... And I see it failing too.

PS3 only came out recently? I dont remember all this chaos in US for the 360?

Well, the bow, which reads: PLAYSTATION 3 helps for any people who doesn't know those technical things. As an example, some adult (old :p) people, instead of consoles, they say "play" or "playstation"... So anyone of those who would buy a console for their children... guess what will they say on the store... "I want to buy a... Playstation"

And that stuff happens more than you know. Hell! maybe those are all the sales they got :p

Bluray is 25GB, Resistance uses 22GB and the PS3 is less than half a year oldand yet Gears of War and the like fit on a normal DVD. Resistance may well have been 22GB, but it also didn't need to be. they just probably skipped the data compression stage because they didn't have to do it and needed to make up for time lost figuring out the cryptic nonsense of the OS in the PS3 :p

Actually, here they don't care about it. The kid wants a console? they hear playstation? console then. It's not ignorance, it's just that they don't care.

Ok, with the Wii it's fairly different, but with any other gen...

There are, in my experience, equally many people who simply use the term "Nintendo" to refer to all games, all consoles, and as a verb to describe the act of playing on them.

Fun fact: Most people here have never heard about Nintendo or Microsoft being in the console business and think PS1/2 are the only consoles out there. A store owner claimed that PS2 is more powerful than both GC and Xbox and the original Playstation was the first successful console of all time. Also, when asking for DS games anywhere here, I often get "this is a Sony-sponsored store and we never ship non-Sony games as a result" as a reply.

Yep, not the best place ever.

"No. Sony store."
"Okay. Can I have a PS3?"

And maybe Rockstar.

And the Blue-ray may not seem that much of an asset, but I believe once it starts being used to it's full capacity, it will really show the difference against the Xbox360.

Metal Alex
18 Jan 2007, 21:24
full capacity

And that will be... when somebody make a 50 Gb game? Since it's only for that console, since the other two (XBOX360, and WII) have DVD's, the sales will be WAY lower, compared to the huge developement for those 50 Gb...

I think there are not many people willing to use the full capacity...

Not unless they're hell bent on a PS3 exclusive game.

The blu-ray in the console seems more and more stupid from the gaming perspective the more you think about it.

The lack of Dragon Quest on the PS3 might hurt its Japanese sales a bit. Then again, there's probably more US/EU Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts fanboys out there than Japanese DQ ones.

I know people who have played both the 360 and the PS3, and have said that PS3 versions of games also available for the 360 are generally inferior graphically. That's a stumble right there, especially seeing as SCE have built their entire empire on "Ooh, look at the shiny polygons!".

From personal experience, the 360 is the better console. Keep in mind that I hated - hated - the original Xbox.

I also have it on good authority that a number of companies supporting Blu-Ray are just one more Sony mistake away from saying, "Man, f*** this" and switching to HD-DVD.
