Look at this (http://www.filecabi.net/video/pixelgodcar.html) !
That's completely unbelievable
Wow! That guy's got some serious talent!
Can't help but feel that MSPaint is perhaps THE most inefficient way to draw most things, but congratulations to that guy. I could NEVER do anything that good, let alone in Paint. It just goes to show that that program isn't totally useless for doing really good artwork.
Meh. It's impressive, yes, but it's obviously due to taking a long time.
The fact that he is doing it in paint is not that impressive. Anybody can learn how to use the tools as efficiantly as him. He draws a nice car, not everybody can do that, but I don't think he deserves much extra credit for the combination.

Paint lacks a lot of tools that better programs have. Most importantly, layers. It would be harder to make a good picture in paint than in photoshop because of the lack of features.

I also don't think it's impressive. Practice will get you there, but honest, what use does it have to be able to do that in paint? You'll impress a bunch of geeks, but that won't get you any chicks :P

Perhaps it's his shiny, new sports car that he was drawing.
That would get him chicks.
MtlAngelus
11 Jan 2007, 11:59
Then why would he take ages drawing it in paint instead of riding it and getting the chicks? ;)
He can't ride in it until he's drawn it first. Then it magically comes to life and he drives around picking up the chicks.
I'd have thought it was obvious...

Your first line pretty much disproves the existence of 'skill' if I'm reading it correctly.
Of course it does not look as good as if he did it in Gimp or Photoshop because he's intentionally restricting himself to the bare minimum of available tools short of doing something with just the pen tool or making a LOGO program, what you have to do is appreciate what he's able to churn out in such an environment.
I've started drawing a car in paint myself now. But since I can't draw cars I used reference, as you clearly will see;

There's no need to be abusive. Just because he himself isnt a highly talented artist doesn't mean his comments are any less valid, or that he should stop drawing just because he isnt a grand master. He makes a perfectly valid point - with the right knowlege and practice that sort of quality is achieveable by anyone. Xinos proves this with his pic.

Xinos is artistically talented, I've seen his other work and it is amazing. The original picture by pixelgod is very impressive. They are artistically talented people and what they've done is impressive.
There are people that aren't artistically talented. Like me. There's no way I'd be able to do something like that.
There are other people, like Monkeyforahead, who are artistically talented in their own ways but probably wouldn't be able to draw a car like that.
But I guess you are right an infinity of monkeys with infinity copies of mspaint would end up recreating that picture. I lose this e-argument.
You won't know unless you give it a shot now will you?
I had trouble drawing this, so I cheated and made guidelines to find the edges since all the parts where out of proportion.
Just that first sketch took over an hour, constantly measuirng and realising I've misplaced an edge so I have to erase and redraw..
Edit: I think this thread is turning everyone against each other :p

I don't think that's true. Some people (say, Tracy Emin) just have no artistic ability. No amount of knowledge will change that, though it might help them produce something that looks alright.

I have no problem with art in general, nor things that take a long time to do, but it does seem to me that creating a picture that big and that detailed in paint isn't indicative as someone with a particullarly active social life, not so much to do with health.

Yes, I wasn't really talking just about the time issue though.
The only reason for using paint would be to impress some nerds on the internet, because paint would be the last thing most people would use to make art. And that's a lot of time spent just to impress nerds.
I'm not saying he couldn't have managed it so he still had lots of time to go out with his mates or whatever, but I think it unlikely, especially considering he fills his myspace with entries entitled 'everybody hates me' and 'I cut myself'.

Perhaps for the challenge. Paint's limited tools make it hard to do something of good quality in it, so when you do it's much more satisfying. It's a harder challenge to overcome, so you feel better for having done so.
I thought this thread would be a competition where we all have to use MS Paint to draw God. I don't know if I'm disappointed or not.

I draw on MS Paint regualy but I don't draw cars - I'm not realy into them (perhaps one day when I pass my test I may be)
Anyway I choose to draw on MS paint as well because its simple and easy to use - the program can allow you to do what ever you realy need for a simple picture.

Tell me....
I'm been playing with MS paint since my first computer (which pre dated CD ROM drives)
3 Colours for mouse click - as you know you can use left and right click to select a colour but if you hold Ctrl and left click you will hold a third colour, remember to use Ctrl and left click to draw with that colour as well.
Your third colour is the background of your palette which I have chosen green for this example:
http://www.myfilestash.com/userfiles/Chip_psy/3%20colours.PNG
As for the x10 zoom, with the zoom tool selected, it'll allow you to select x2, x4, x8 for the zoom modes but if you click just below x8 right on the edge of the zoom selection box it will zoom in even furthur than zoom x8.
Select x8 zoom first and draw something so you can see when you trigger x10
Here's a little pic showing exactly where to click: (along the red line in my example)

This Win XP cheat can be used to impress your friends with. Close all applications, then open Minesweeper, type xyzzy, then hold down the Shift key for a second. Now when you move your mouse over the cells, you will see either a white or black pixel in the top left of your desktop... white means no mine, black means mine (you might adjust your wallpaper to see this).
