Hi all.
Well, I'm wondering how Deadcode (and maybe CyberShadow, but don't know) got the Worms Armageddon Source Code.

Thanks ;)

By having proven exceptional coding skills, knowledge, trustworthiness and will to help the Worms community.

But, who supplied the code?
I mean, who gives to Deadcode the sources?

Well, Team17 obviously. :o

Wow...such great :D :D

Well, not just to anyone.
I hear you must become a level 27 to be able to even confront them. I still have no mastered most of my basic skills so I am still lacking a bit behind, but perhaps someday...

Volcadmin burned the source code on 3 CDs and gave it to Deadcode when he was over at T17 HQ, IIRC.

There is a rumor that the proving grounds for Deadcode were not in the field of programming but in a pub near T17 HQ.

YES! Thanks for not disappointing me! I was waiting for you to do such a remark. :D

Psh, doesn't Deadcode only drink Coke? Red Coke?

So very hard to rewrite, or Deadcode is a robot.

Deadcode got the WA source code by impressing Team17 with his program he created by reverse-engineering WA, called Silkworm. Originally, Silkworm was a program designed for exploiting WA's loopholes, which allowed crazy things to happen, like stopping time, turning landscape destructable/indestructable during the game, etc. (all possible online). Then, it was leaked and used for cheating online, so Deadcode made a new version of Silkworm which stopped the old Silkworm exploits but also added great new things to WA, like a fix for the bug which stopped WA from working on Windows 2000/XP, and some other cool stuff. How Team17 saw this and recognised Deadcode as worthy for the source code is unclear from here, but that's what happened, and they invited him to the UK for a short visit to their headquarters, at which time he met them and received the WA and WWP source code, among some other goodies (like original graphics, etc.).

If I see Deadcode soon, I may point him toward this thread.

By the way, CyberShadow also has the WA and WWP source codes. He got them by displaying his good will and coding expertise with his many 2006 projects, such as WormKit (and its associated modules, like WormNAT and wkMagic), MyWormNET, Worms Knowledge Base, Water Color Editor, etc. I pointed CyberShadow out to Spadge in this thread (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=30382), and they had a productive email conversation from there, which landed CyberShadow with the promise of some CDs being shipped. Now he and Deadcode are working hard on WA together. :)

I am excited to see what they can both do with the code and how they will improve the game. perhaps even a worm pot mode in WA? :D I can only hope.

The only disappointing aspect from our (and specifically my point of view) is that I just don't have the time to spend with these guys to formulate and plan stuff, but the intent is there to do more of this stuff long-term. We had much bigger plans when DC got on board and it didn't quite pan out for a few reasons (which are numerous and complex) but we'll see what happens.

As a studio 99.99% of our time is spent ensuring we work towards our contracted work - which is numerous and plentiful right now, what DC and CS are doing (iterative development) is a labour of love and something of a luxury you just seldom get.

We (the community) really appreciate Team17s attitude. :)

WHAT? Volcadmin is human

I thought he was only a bot, (s)he posts here on downtime etc, then people ask him/her questions about it, and they get no reply.

And if WA was 3cd src, he must have obviously got the PS1 etc. sources too. Hmm, some sort of passworded SCM would be more appropiate tbh, that way DC and CS always have the latest shared code.

Now, this is the point where I learn some l33t language and write some l33t app for W:A.

Indeed, other companies don't even show up in the forums :)

And Team17 are at least supporting what they do too. Gameware Development bought Creature Labs and is probably leaving it to die iirc.

Possible action plans:

1. Make Gameware give canofworms the Docking Station source by reverse engineering the network system, and finding out that all passwords are unencrypted (TRUE, the wonders of a packet sniffer).

2. Make Team17 (or any other British game company) buy Gameware.

Hmm, creatures + worms, that would be so funny, i could just see one of my norns firing a bazooka at some grendles...

I know that CS got the W:A and WWP source code, so maybe DC got the same.
Also, I know that DC got unused worm/weapon sprites, so maybe he got other stuff, maybe uncompressed.

I doubt he has the PS1 source code. I bet that Sony has very restrictive agreements.
What? Do Team17 have a beer competition.
Damn sure!
Checkt the internet archive and browse the old T17 pages. http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.team17.com
Especially have a look at the "beergarden" section.
If that drinking on all those party photos isn't competing, I don't know what. :D

If that drinking on all those party photos isn't competing, I don't know what. :DI'd forgotten about that web archive place! The interview with the X2 team from 1996 made me laugh, nothing ever changes:

"Why are these features going to impress a hard core Playstation gamer whose head might be full of polygon counts, frame rates, and tri-linear texture mip mapped interpolated graphics with anti-aliasing."

"there had been - and still is, to a large degree, a dearth of PLAYABLE games on next-gen consoles."

No, Volcadmin is a member of Team17. He's also the backup administrator, for when the primarey admin isn't around.

Speaking of which, Spadge, are we going to be getting a new admin anytime soon?

Volcadmin is the admin on this forum and always has been - that's why he's Number One.

In fact, he would have given APJ admin powers "back in the day".

Mainly because being on the forum isn't his job (like all of T17's staff ;)) - I believe volc is in charge of making sure all the servers, etc, are working fine at T17 HQ - including wormnet servers.

Ahh, the old Team17 website, that takes me back.

The Team17 Beer (99.9% Alcohol) should be a Worms weapon, you feed it to the enemy, and next turn they go all dizzy :D

As a life long member of the dark side I would like to once and for all make clear that we support Opera in it's work to destroy the world from inside your Nintendo systems and mobile phones. IE is the side of the uninlightend and the unindarkend.

I didn't know Spadge had a blog! Why didn't anyone tell me!
