is it possible to have the game use the 1 port for everything? what kind of problems would arise from such a thing? would it be just to hard to code and maintain? or will it increase the chances of dropouts etc.?

It would be a lot harder than you programming your router properly for the current ports :)

I think port 80 and 17011 are both used for IRC (I THINK) and port 6667 is used as the others are used for IRC.

i know how many and what they are im just wandering if its too hard to merge everything so that it all uses the one port and/or both protocalls.

You only need to open port 17011. All other ports are for outgoing connections.

thus the other ports require forwarding aswell due to the other people requiring your real IP address... or else they cant send what there doing to me -.-

No they don't, ports 6667 and 80 are what the WormNET server has open on its end. Forwarding them on your router does absolutely nothing for W:A, as your end of those port connections are never on 80 or 6667 anyway, and as they are outgoing (you are initiating the connection to the server) the router allows it. The only port you need open on your router is 17011, and only when you are hosting, as this needs to accept incoming connections (other people initiating the connection to your PC as they join).

W:A only does use one port.

as i thought... thanks for that... and the one port that wwp uses is 17012? cause ive asked for the ports required before hand and got alsorts of responses from people... ill happily test this out... and do you by any chance know if w2 uses just one port?

You amaze me with every post you make, franpa. This has already been answered twice. :p
You only need to open port 17011.

W2 uses the DirectPlay port(s). I know for sure that it uses port 47624 TCP, but I'm not sure about any other ports for it. That may be all it needs.

is there a "simple" program that allows me to monitor what ports a program i specified with in the program uses?

tcpview. google it, it brings up a list of all ports in use, and the program that is using them.

As for WWP, i think it is still 17011, just the IRC server part of WormNET for WWP uses 6677 instead of 6667, but you don't need to worry about that as it is one of your outgoing connections that your router will allow anyway.

thanks for that... ill now remove some ports from my router/firewall and clean it up in there.

just left with what w2 uses... lex said one port but isnt entirely sure on what else it uses.

I doubt it uses any more.

ok, and yes ive tested it... i only have 17000. 47624, 17011 forwarded and i can play and host in worms armageddon... (waiting on the merger patch before even bothering testing wwp... and will test w2 soon.

Ah, 17000. What does W2 use that for? I remember that being a port mentioned as required for W2 by a few sources.

its the port it connects to the server and as such is out going so i suspect it isnt needed but i dunno.... no harm with that port forwarded

no harm with that port forwarded
No harm until some malware uses that port. ;)
