View Full Version : W:A + mac
i have a macintosh. i have eveything i need on mac-os. the only thing i can't live without - is WA
W:A + macintosh - can it be possible?
There is no direct port to MAC (atleast I don't think so), definately not with the updated patches. So your only option is to either get a mac with intel and load a MS OS or...get a PC emulator for mac.

make sure also by checking zophar out more.

If you have a new, Intel Mac (Mac with Intel processors) you can download Boot Camp (http://www.apple.com/bootcamp) and then install Windows XP. You can then boot into XP and run it just like you would on an HP or Dell or something like that - and of course play WA :D
Or, download something like Parallels (http://www.parallels.com/) which will allow you to emulate Windows on Mac and essentially run both OSes at once.
The link Dando provided seems a bit out of date - you can now no longer buy Virtual PC for mac and it is not supported by Microsoft any more. Also note that it will NOT run on the Intel Macs.
yeah zophar has been getting outta date with its updates which is a pity:(
i dodn't want to install windows on my mac, because of lotsa reasons (bugs, holes, viruses, my free space etc.) i want to have mac-os only. i have everything i need in mac-os "tiger". it would be very strange to keep bugged windows only because of 1 game... so i just asking for certain answer about worms ported for mac...

There is no mac port, and wine for osx just isn't there yet. So you'd need windows (or linux, but if you have to use another os for worms you might as well use one that runs it properly) to run it.
i don't know how it is difficult to rebiuld programs for execution from one os to other... but maybe developers have the far-going plans?

In the pre-Intel Mac days (PowerPC Processors), it was incredibly difficult: you almost had to start from scratch with the code. However, things should be slightly easier with the new Intel processors, but because WA is so old, I doubt anyone would want to port it any more.
A WA port was being made about 6 - 7 years ago, but the company doing the port got bought out and WA cancelled :(
You can play Worms 3D on Mac though: http://www.feralinteractive.com
oh... worms 3D is not that fun as 2D worms... i am so crazy about ropping games... well... have to play worms on my windows pc...

"Roping". Please.
Worm original is on mac and so is Worms 3d. But no WA.

Worms Original won't run on an IntelMac though, because Worms needs Classic Mac OS (ideally OS8 - never really ran well in OS9), which is totally incompatible with the intelMacs
Worms Blast is available for Mac too.

This used to work very very well, and I'd WormNet every weekend with another friend running the same setup on a newer G5. It was an old computer too, with a crummy graphics card, so it can definitely work!
However, since upgrading to MiniMac Intel, I have not been able to play Worms! Granted, I could restart into Windows, but I don't want to disrupt my downloads and servers just for Worms. I run Parallels, which is an incredible little app, BUT it doesn't support DirectDraw or Direct3D, and so no Worms unless I restart in Windows! (I think this is the reason why Worms won't actually start a game)
Funny how I had an easier time running Worms on my old Dual-G4-450! (versus the current 1.6G-Intel-Duo)

Parallels doesn't support DirectDraw?
Hmm, you know, from what I hear Wine may be mature enough to run ddraw games on OSX now. Though Wine on OSX is generally pretty new and you may have to go to a lot of trouble to make it work (especially since you'd have to build it yourself).

I found this (http://www.amazon.com/MacSoft-0421599-Worms-Armageddon-Mac/dp/B00004Y2OX/sr=8-7/qid=1164655435/ref=sr_1_7/002-1852070-7000040?ie=UTF8&s=software) on Amazon. It says that there aren't any copies availabe, which isn't really a shock, but it does exist somewhere. Which brings me hope.

Then here's the shock for you: The game was cancelled back in autumn 2000.

As Bonz said, it never existed past the partial development stage. Amazon for some reason have just never removed it from their listings. You won't find that game listed anywhere else, nor will you find it on eBay.
