View Full Version : Does WA run on MAC?
Does it run ona mac, with the latest updated, being able to join wormnet?
No, WA is not Mac compatible - never has been and probably never will be :(
However, you can run WA through Windows, either via an emulation application like Virtual PC or Parallels, or if you have an intelMac, by installing BootCamp and running Windows XP direct via booting into it.
Both methods allow the game to be patched and played on WormNet, as you are using the PC version.
He has a mac, you see....
Just outa intrest, which of those methods do you use, thomasp?
Neither.
I used to run WA through virtual PC on my old iMac, but that wasn't brilliant, due to the poor performance on Win98. But, I haven't installed VPC on my PowerBook, simply because for running one application, it wasn't worth it. And I haven't played WA in years.
Also, being on a uni network, I'd have to keep Windows patched and firewalled, and our network doesn't support 98, so I'd have to find XP somewhere....
You can run it on the mac! I have it for mac!

No you don't. Or at least not a full, legal version.
The Mac version was never published. I can't remember the company names, but one company started work on the Mac port, then went bankrupt and got taken over by another company who promptly cancelled WA.
Three worms games have made it onto MacOS though: Worms (the original), published by Ocean, but this doesn't work in OSX; Worms Blast and Worms3D both published by Feral Interactive. Neither of which are Worms armageddon.

It's sold out because none were ever made. It was never released, as the link bonz provided will explain. Amazon.com have just never removed it from their listings.
And I looked on eBay - guess what, nothing.

Yep, that's the one
Edit:
One big clue on that amazon you linked to is this text: 'Discontinued by manufacturer: Yes"
You can run it on the mac! I have it for mac!

I used to have Worms Armageddon and Worms 2 run perfectly (though *slightly* laggy) on Windows 2000 via Virtual PC (v. 4 or 5 I think?). I played netwroked games in WormNet all the time. There was some tricks to getting it to run nicely. I think these are the tricks:
- Disable "PC Cursor Tracks Mac Mouse" in VPC, otherwise mouse-scrolling is impossible (as it'll scroll at lightspeed when the mouse goes off of the Virtual PC's screen)
- Let VPC "Adjust Mac Screen Resolution" in it's prefs somewhere
- CLOSE the "Virtual PC List" Window, as it constantly updates it's screeenshots, which severely hampers smooth gameplay.
- Obviously, mount the CD or Image in the VM (Virtual Machine)
- Make sure you follow the patch/update instructions, ie. don't open WormsA. until it's updated. Also update Direct 3D appropriately.
- I also reniced the VIrtual PC app, but I dunno if it makes a huge difference. (if you don't know what that is, ignore it)
It always worked great. The framerate must have only been around 16 or 17, but still it was very playable. Oncein a blue moon some guy would just swing ropes all around us, which I couldn't match with the low framerate.
