Hi I'm having trouble completing rifle range and artillery training. Does anyone have any help?

I find that aiming lower than I expect helps with the shotty.

Plasma
23 Aug 2006, 14:27
Well here's a little tip: the amount of shots you take doesn't matter, but you may find it easier to see where some shots end up first.

Although you probably already knew that; but it's the only tip I can think of.

Thanks for the help. I got 2:36 on Rifle Range. I'm still having trouble on artillery training though....

WOO HOO!!! I just got an awesome time of 4:16 on Artillery Range!!! I've got gold on all types of training now!!

Wow, nice! How many of the missions have you beaten so far? They are the most fun. If you need some help with methodology, try watching some of the replays posted here (http://nanacide.com/wahelp/info-missions.php). Of course, you don't have to do the missions as fast as the record-holders do them (though that would be awesome), but those replays still show easy methods for some missions, if the records haven't already been beaten by much harder methods, as is the case with Hot Stuff.

You wouldn't like that, ey? :D

No, actually, I certainly would like that. I want competition, and have been calling for it for many months. I'm the only person who's been acheiving these mission records in the past 6 months, seriously.

Have you watched the mission record replay by SpideR on the mission records page (http://nanacide.com/wahelp/info-missions.php)? It gives a good demonstration of how to beat that mission easily. You don't have to go as fast as SpideR goes in the replay, of course.

Dando
29 Aug 2006, 10:41
Yes, you can beat it much easier by roping under the letters then deploying a girder.

I played it for the playstation the first time and spent days doing it with the blow torch through all the letters which is hit and miss and down to alot of luck.

If you've ever played the mission or seen it played, you will understand what he means. Really, though, you should just check out SpideR's mission record replay to see what he means, since you must have never played the mission.

Hey, don't worry now. I'm up to mission 32 - Trouble in the Toystore.

Anyone got any deathmatch tips?

Lex
30 Aug 2006, 06:49
In deathmatch, always end your turn stand in a pile with enemy worms who you are sure aren't going to take their turn before your worm will. That, or in a pile with two enemy worms. They will not attack themselves. Also, of course, try to pile enemy worms as much as possible. Keep them in a bundle with whatever means possible.

and if you want to complete with 100% team rank, and not lsoe a worm, (and even if not) if you are going to lose, CTRL-ALT-DEL and cancel worms.exe, thus your game isnt saved and so you can attempt it again without having to regain a rank/medal

You lose. Export the log from this replay and you will see a "Mission Failed" string at the end. After I recorded it, the failed attempts value in my game increased by one.

franpa

you are right about the log but the game itself says mission complete and you get a gold medal for it unless you already have gold.

mr_awesome
1 Sep 2006, 09:31
I'm not going for records. I've finished every mission now. The upgraded banana bomb is awesome!! I'm still ranked as veteran in deathmatch though.

Oh and does anyone know the record for Artillery Range Training?

Lex
1 Sep 2006, 13:40
you are right about the log but the game itself says mission complete and you get a gold medal for it unless you already have gold.No. As you can see, I just tried it, and it told me I lost. I even said that in my post. You did the mission with the bug method before you updated the game. I know this factually. I would go into a big rant here about how wrong you are, but I really don't want to get into a flame war, ever. I don't like them. If you respond with some sort of flaming post, please note that I will not respond to it.

mr_awesome, I just tried the artillery training once, got exactly 2:00, and earned a bronze medal. It told me that I need 2:30 for a silver medal. I would assume that a gold medal requires a time of 3:00, but it's possible that it requires a time of 3:30. I have a time greater than 4:00 with my main team, Lunchpack Gang.

franpa
1 Sep 2006, 13:59
i originally updated straight to 3.6.26.5 but then decided to reinstall using the method described at nanacide which is to update to 3.0.50.0 first then 3.6.26.5 and this very much says i win.

3.0.00.0 => 3.0.50.0 => 3.6.26.5

i win the mission for killing myself and the CPU... and it says i win except for in the log.

-----

i just noticed that in both my replay below and the one you posted in reply to my allegation only show 1 crate to collect... however in this (http://nanacide.com/replays/%5Bwa14%5D%5B1%5D%5B4.04%5D%5Bc0o1%5D.wagame) replay there are 3 crates to get... thus i am confused... if my copy is buggy i can only think that the update file i got did not include updated mission files... i got my updates from http://wormsarmageddon.team17.com/ and i noticed discrepancies with several other missions and those from the nancide website.

Lex
1 Sep 2006, 14:35
There is a different number of crates based on the number of attempts made at the mission. c0o1 attempted the mission many times before his winning attempt. Our replays display the first attempt, and there is only one crate on the first attempt.

When a log is exported, WA uses all of its game engine algorithms without displaying the graphical part of it on-screen to calculate what happened in the game, from beginning to end. To determine whether the mission was won or not, it checks in exactly the same way as it would normally. If it says the mission was failed in the log, it says the mission was failed in the game.

Lex
1 Sep 2006, 16:08
mr_awesome, I got 2:28 and it was a silver medal. It told me what I needed to get gold, but I forgot to read it in my haste to get gold! :o After that, I overshot what I thought might be gold a little and got 5:47!

Lex, although I was expecting to get a result similar to yours, I have tried this myself and just crashing the sheep into the two worms qualifies as a pass. I've tried this with 0 and 15 mission tries, so I don't think that that matters.

Here's the video file to prove it: http://thecybershadow.net/dump/SuperSheepMissionBug.wmv

IIRC, it depended what version of the game you had. For example, the Sold-Out Software version doesn't allow you to win by killing both worms.

franpa
2 Sep 2006, 00:40
so... the original version before any updates/patches (v1.0.00.0) have different missions in it then the pre-patched version? (v3.0.00.0) thus making it impossible to get the fixed missions without purchasing a pre-patched copy of WA?

i think this is clear enough...

franpa
2 Sep 2006, 07:58
i've been doing it with my bro's team which is way past that mission (he was the one that did it first [in my household]) and everytime the log for the replay file said mission failed yet the game said mission complete and gave us gold (unless we already had it) ... and it did not increase the number of attempts.

Lex
2 Sep 2006, 08:17
Okay, I've just played through the first 13 missions to get to that mission with a new team (though, now that I think about it, that wouldn't affect a single thing!), and, like I thought, on my game, it doesn't work. Franpa and/or CyberShadow, what are the contents of \Data\Resource\version.txt on your WA CDs? Mine are:V3.00U
26-5-99

franpa
2 Sep 2006, 08:19
V1.05e
19-1-99

possible what i suggested about different missions may be true.

Lex
2 Sep 2006, 08:28
It certainly is! Deadcode has the same version of WA as I have, which is surely why the bug fix worked for me.

Now, this begs another question. Deadcode fixed the same bug in Rescue Agent Dennis where, if your worm (Agent Dennis) died on the same turn that you killed the enemy worms, you would win. The fix changed this, requiring your worm to survive the entire match. Really, this is the same as in Super Sheep To The Rescue. Franpa, could you possibly check, in Rescue Agent Dennis, if you die while killing the last of the enemy worms, you win the mission? It's not that easy a mission, I know, but in the competitions for getting the mission records, we discovered this bug.

franpa

I decided to give beating Deadcode's-record on Rifle Range of 1:06:something.something a shot. I clocked 58:14.92 and tragically shot myself at the end. :( I had nearly 400 seconds clocked up, which alone, would have gotten me at least 6 minutes more! I only had to keep up my shooting for a little longer! That was so frustrating, playing for an hour and then simply shooting the ground. :(

Anyway, I still got the best time I've ever gotten. :)

CyberShadow
2 Sep 2006, 21:18
Hey guys,

First of all, I didn't use FRAPS - I used a virtual machine and its video capture option. Then I used VirtualDub to reencode its huge (200+ MB, lossless compression) format into a format more suitable for web.

Lex, my CD is the same version as franpa's - that is, the early European version. We should exchange our .wam files to track down the differences.

And franpa, I can't think of any software that would help you bypass a program's demo version limitations that is OK with the end-user license agreement.

Stormrage
2 Sep 2006, 23:55
do you know if you are sure you will lose, minimizing the game and closing the W:A with task manager wont cause attempt or downsize?

Stormrage
2 Sep 2006, 23:57
and if you shoot yourself before time runs out in trainings, you will get about 10 bonus sec (in artillery range, +5 grenade detonation)

franpa
3 Sep 2006, 00:18
it removes all traces and undoes everything the demo installed/configured on my pc... thus when i reinstall it the software will act like it hasnt been used before and thus any limitations imposed will adversely be affected... i do not like stuff being installed without explicit consent and have that stuff remain on my pc even after uninstall of the product that installed the safeguards in the first place. (and i seriously hate it when they include info about it in there godforsaken licence agreements which are generaly 200+ words long.)

and since the wam files only take up
win XP - size on disk 5.97MB (6,262,784 bytes)

i will be more then happy to zip them and allow someone to analyze the differences.

CyberShadow
3 Sep 2006, 00:29
Ah, I didn't know FRAPS is working like a full version within a limited time. Yes, I guess that's acceptable since it's almost the same as a harddrive format and re-install.

I usually like to find the registry key/file myself with RegMon/FileMon and setting its date to 10 years in the future, or whatever. :)

CyberShadow
3 Sep 2006, 00:30
Oh. And back on topic.

franpa
3 Sep 2006, 00:43
exactly what i have found and now do basically ends up having the same result as a format...
and someone coulda said that you can view the wam files via a text editor like notepad.

the simplest fix would be to include the changed missions in the next update and adjust the exe to search its installed location for those changed missions rather then the cd.

something happened witch i hate so much is that using the "max statistics" option in teamED then completing a mission in WA results in your team file getting corrupted and as such next time you run WA your team file is recreated from scratch.

Lex
3 Sep 2006, 02:48

3 Sep 2006, 04:09
yea um first time i did a mission (after everything was unlocked in my team) was the sheep to the rescue and the game crashed every time i won it with my team but not with my bro's and then i did the rescue agent Dennis mission to verify the bug and won it... the next day we discovered that the game has lost all recollection of what our teams are and had defaulted back to no teams. (and no problem, since what i reported was in fact an unknown bug)

good job mr_awesome

Do you think you'll stick around the forum for a while anyway?

Vader
4 Sep 2006, 23:04
and someone coulda said that you can view the wam files via a text editor like notepad.
So, basically, you could modify the missions and recompile your WA CD so that the changes take effect in-game.

Meaning WA has a mission editor (of sorts).

Right?

franpa
4 Sep 2006, 23:49
no need to recompile the cd thanks to a file override module cybershdw has made... and yes you can edit the missions and play them in there edited form.

CyberShadow
4 Sep 2006, 23:54
Vader, yes, but you can also do it with wkFileOverride like franpa said. However, wkFileOverride wasn't able to override the mission files because it didn't intercept the INI files Windows API. Please re-download WormKit (http://maplecenter.net/wormkit/wormkit.zip) to get the new version, which allows mission customization.
