ports to forward? (for wormnet to work)

EDIT: and how do you make the ninja rope like it is in worms 2? with at least 3 repeat swings (infinite proffered) and a full selection of angles to shoot it with... because i cant shoot it lower then straight across.

Increase the power.
and a full selection of angles to shoot it with... because i cant shoot it lower then straight across.
That's not possible in W:A.

you may also need to open ports 80, 6667, 17010 & 17012...

Well this is something I've always been confused about.

I thought the idea that 17010 and 17012 had to be opened was a myth? Some sort of imaginary idea that someone dreamed up and just happened to get passed around because it worked (when 17011 was included in the list).

Or perhaps it's because Worms 2 relied on those ports and people simply assumed WA does too?

I want this question answered once and for all: does 17010 or 17012 have any significance to Worms whatsoever?

(i'm not having a go at you, I just want to finally know the truth about those ports)

From the 2 minutes of research I did, it seems these ports are used only for UDP game discovery on LAN (finding LAN games).

But yes, they are mentioned in the code.

I don't think someone dreamed it up:
- 7.6 Port information for network connection via firewalls (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7166#7.6)
To ensure successful usage your machine requires outgoing connections on TCP ports 80 and 6667, as well as on TCP ports 17010, 17011 and 17012. If you want to be able to host a game you will have to redirect incoming packets on the TCP ports to your machine.

TCP? Now that's a blatant lie. TCP connections don't use sendto(), and that's how those ports are used.

i can host fine and dandy and i don't have port 6667 forwarded at all in my router.

Isn't that because that's just the IRC?

now that you mention it... it sounds familiar... so maybe it is and only needs to be in firewall... but im certain 17011 is needed, its the only one i got in my router thats listed on these sites.

i also got 17012 but i think that is for wwp and as such is not related to w:a and shouldn't be mentioned here.

17011 is the only one you need for W:A, as it is the only port your PC needs to receive inbound connections to (people connecting to you when you host a game). The others are outbound connections that your PC is making to either the WormNET server or other people who are hosting, and home routers/firewalls generally allow all outbound connections.

Unless your system is infected with trojans or worms, outgoing connections are made on purpose and thus are harmeless.

Not changing but forwarding.

I have had a router about a week now and im still getting my head around the whole subject of forwarding.

For the other noobs like me out there use

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

select you router make and model and the game you want to forward ports for and it will take you step by step through setting it up with correct ports and rules

rednecks, that is inaccurate to a point http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netcomm/NB1300PLUS4/Worms_Armageddon.htm (im aware this is a link specific to the router i got)

they list many ports that arn't needed to be forwarded to play online... you only need 17011 udp

o_O i thought you said you had said that the game is not using the port for TCP due to the type of info and how its handled gets sent.

I haven't said that, as far as I remember. Quote me.

The guide for my router shows that I have to enter an IP address after typing the "Start Port No." and "End Port No." - do I have to use my computer's IP address or my router's?

SilPho

The IP address of the computer you are forwarding to. (So, your computer)
