Ok guys, i've read and read.

Forwarded my ports from the router (didn't really need to).

I've opened the 1080, 6667, and 17011 ports, local and remote, but yet when i go into wormnet, i get no channels.

As soon as i disable the firewall, it comes up like a charm.

Is there a port i'm missing? Thanks guys.

WormNET is based on a regular, good ol' IRC network.
Norton blocks the IRC ports by default, even outgoing connections. This is because lots of trojans seem to use them.

IIRC, the option is in a short list somewhere in the preferences. Unfortunately, I can't tell you where exactly, I don't use Norton any longer. :B

I gotcha, do you know what the port #'s are? i could add them in and turn them on when i wanna play.

6667 is the outgoing port used for IRC connections.

To host a game, you need to open ports 17010, 17011, 17012 inwards and possibly route them to your PC if you're not directly connected to the internet.

(I'm a bit vague on this actually, just 17011 seems to work fine for me)

Other outgoing ports usually don't need any special treatment, because routers and firewalls normally allow outgoing connections. But for reference:
Worms also uses port 80 outgoing for regular HTTP requests.
Ingame ports 17010, 17011, 17012 outgoing are used.

That should be it I think.

lol, seriously, i've done it all. And for it to work when norton is off, but not when it's on, is baffling me.

Donīt disable your firewall but open the relevant game ports.

Means 17010, 17011, 17012 and 6667. Just to be sure.

got them all, actually saw something on 17017... so it's open from 17010-17017 and 6667.

still no love.

Wormnet channels are IRC based. IRC runs on port 6667. Check if it is really open. Also check if no other application blocks 6667.

norton says it is, is there another way to confirm, or check it?

Hmm I'm not familiar with Norton Firewall, but when you do get it working (and I'm sure you will somehow) please come back and tell us how so I can add it to the wahelp page :)

Do a shieldsup check on grc.com I guess, but that'll only try to connect to you (and won't see if your ports are open outgoing)

HTTP: telnet wormnet1.team17.com 80
IRC: telnet wormnet1.team17.com 6667

Type these in a command prompt. If you get an error it doesn't work. If you get an empty black screen it does work.

awesome, was exactly what i was asking for.

now, i have to leave off the http: and the irc at the beginning (tried, and duh, didn't work.)

so, i went with "telnet etc etc."

both give me an empty black screen.
