Hello,
I was wondering why don't you release Lemmings on Nintendo DS. Thanks to the touch screen, it would be very great, so why keeping this game on PSP only?
Thanks in advance for your answer.
PS: Excuse my poor English, I'm French.

Because Lemmings is owned by Sony these days, since they bought whatever company it was that owned Lemmings. Since Sony only really own one popular game franchise they'll be pretty reluctant to release it for DS.

Ooooh... what a pity...:(
You... don't like Sony do you AndrewTaylor?

Well, no, but I'm not sure how you inferred it from that post. This (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showpost.php?p=471135&postcount=6) one, maybe. But not that one.
Heh, well actually it was from reading all your posts about Sony and then that one with the line Sony only really own one popular game franchise
Also, Lemmings PSP was absolutely awesome. I don't think I've said that here before, and I feel I should.

It was a Psygnosis game. In about 1998 (I think) Psygnosis became SCE Studio Liverpool (although, to this day they can still publish under the original name).
I'm hoping they do Rollcage 3 but I doubt they ever will.
edit: After some research it becomes apparent that Psygnosis were bought by Sony back in '93 and became Sony Studio Liverpool in '99.

Well, so I think there is absolutely no likelyhood of Lemmings on Nintendo DS anytime...

The only way it could ever happen would be if Sony decided that they'd got all the PSP sales they were getting out of Lemmings and decided to tep the potential DS market for Lemmings -- that is, everyone who owns a DS, because who wouldn't buy Lemmings DS?
While I think Lemmings would be great on the DS, the PSP version really is fantastic. I've owned it for a couple of days now, and the controls really are a non-issue.
I've been a bit cynical about Team17 over the past few years, but Lemmings PSP has reminded me why I love their games. Very polished, very well thought out controls, lots of great humour ... just overall quality.

I think these are the guys behind Wipeout, which is another great PSP game. I thought Sony had just bought the Psygnosis name and killed the company, so it's good to know that Psygnosis is still putting out good games after all this time.

Yeah, they are, I have Wip3out (Wipeout 3 for the morons), which is a great game, though it runs out of stuff to do quite quickly

Yep, they were working wth Sony for a while before the PlayStation came out. They invented Wipeout in the first place. They also created Rollcage, as I mentioned above - a game far superior to Wipeout, in my opinion.

Yeah, it was more like the opposite happened. They are the same company under a different name and publishing restrictions yet they can still release games under their original name :) It's very good to know. They've made some great games in the past.

Funnily enough, they also made the original Grand Theft Autos (and IIRC, were absorbed by some French company before being spat out again as Rockstar North.

Who's fault was the dungheap known as Lemmings Revolution?
(It was a great game, in theory. Most the of ingredients were there and the "revolution" idea was sound, and they even had some beautiful touches like Lemmings walking in two "lanes" around the world, but most of the levels destroyed the "revolution" system completely with a huge vertical steel wall, and the enemies and switches overcomplicated things. More importantly, though, the game was buggy as hell. The graphics had flecks of random sprites dotted where they had no right to be, bits of walls jutted out at random, the bridges took on whatever colour the landscape around them was, ZX Spectrum style, and at least one level was actually impossible to complete. I'll never understand how impossible games make it onto the shelves.)
I saw Lemmings Revolution in GAME the other day. Thought about picking it up, but I decided against it. I.... guess it was for the best.

I suppose it depends. If it's dirt cheap (as I suspect it will be by now) then it's a nice thing to own because it is, for all its sins, an interesting new take on Lemmings. But it's not what I'd call a commercial quality game. There's stuff that good available for free if you can find it.

Take-Two Interactive are stated as the developers here:

Or was that a rhetorical question?

This is how I perceive Worms: Open Warfare at the moment. That's the impression I get, although I am yet to try it.
It's not that bad. It's much better than lemmings revolution sounds, N E way.
You do realise that, apart from being quite irritating, typing "N E way" is more time consuming than typing "anyway", don't you?
Do'h! Just an annoying habbit I try my best to get out of, but the odd NEway and U does slip out sometimes.

just watch the trees going by.
but if you are really desperate for lemings for ds, all you need to do is wirte a dos/x86 emulator for ds (use dosbox source as a guide), put the emulator with the dos version of lemmings onto a rom chip, and solder one of these onto a ds cartridge.
what? it can be done.

You realise that same argument can be used to show that any game on any format is a bad idea?

Could you implement touch screen functionality through that emulator? How about microphone support for blowing lemmings over gaps when they are floating down on the brolly? Oh, and could you also implement dual screen functionality into it (without just stretching the image across both screens)?

If you own a Game Boy Adv., you can play Lemmings from the original Game Boy.
You could possibly port it to one of those empty GBA cartidges for sale on the internet and play it on the DS.
The graphics are a little dated, but hey it's Lemmings on a Nintendo portable.
I would still like to see a Lemmings game made for the DS though.
Well I can't see Sony selling Psygnosis to Nintendo any time soon or even releasing the license to them, despite the profits they'd reap from it. :(

I dunno about the DS, but if the PSP can manage to run an 9x OS, then I'm sure we'll be able to homebrew a lemmings game. Too bad DS isn't as open-source as PSP. (GP2X ***s Joo All!)

The PSP isn't in the least "open source". People have hacked homebrew onto it, but that's all it is (at least, as far as I've ever seen) -- a hack. Who knows how many firmware updates those programmes will survive? The DS already has a webbrowser (http://www.opera.com/products/devices/nintendo/), and I think someone's managed to cram Linux onto it (http://www.dslinux.org/wiki/Main_Page).
I reckon between them you'll be able to run a homebrew game on there.

Am I misreading this?
There's already a Lemmings game on the PSP. Why homebrew one?

only for portable games. if you are sitting in a normal room, it would take quite a bit of effort and a few rotating mirrors to get the trees to go by.

touchscreen can be added by adjusting mouse emulation, and the dual screen can be used by simply copying portions of the game's screen buffer to the appropriate screen buffers used by ds. blowing part, on the other hand, would require a lot of moddifications to game code and new levels. easier to just port the dos game as is.

Yes, but replace "trees" with "world" and you have yourself a Saying.

I got it in GAME for free :P
W2 and W:A, WWP, and a third was free, so I picked up Revolutions.
I completed many times the original lemmings version for WIN94 or whatever I had back then, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Although Revolutions does somewhat butcher the original, it is a wonderful concept, and if you look hard enough you can see the basics under the complications and glitches.
I have yet to complete it though, and I haven't yet found the impossible level.
Though I remember a glitch in one where instead of going round the map as was intended, the lemmings could fly straight up into their balloon, and land safely in it after flying feet-first through the base of the basket.. Yeah, there are some problems, but that's not to say it isn't still a fun puzzle :)

I know this is off topic but just responding to your Wip3out.
If you have the Special edition of Wip3out you could sell it to the americans for alot of money :D

I do think the original Lemmings is great but, I've got to say Team17 that the new Lemmings looks really great. I also enjoyed the Psp version :D .

ok, I need that.
Hello from me :)
Recently I bought DS lite and the first game I purchased was WOW. Despite the lack of terrain variety, I enjoy it much. And I have to say I'll be really happy to see more worms for DS!
Then I came here and was surprised to see that the latest Lemmings title was Team 17s one too. I was very excited to see if there is a DS version until I read that Lemmings will not be released to DS :(. I'm very disappointed by that sony decision especially since I'm not planning to buy PSP. Nothing more to say except maybe that I hope for DS version sooner or later.

well unfortunatly sony would most likely never allow a ds version to be released. Because why would they want to allow the competing hand held company to have one of their psp exclusive games.

yeah, it would be really good for the ds. Would look nicer on the psp, but I definatly think the game play and controlling would be better for the ds.
