View Full Version : Under a router, can't host
I tried unlocking the ports mentioned in the FAQ, but people still can't join my hosted games
What else can I do? ._.

Which ports?

Open the ports in your firewall, too. If you did already, read this:
http://www.nanacide.com/wahelp (recommended to read anyway)
what do you mean by 'unlocking' btw? You have to 'forward' the ports to your computer.
http://www.canyouseeme.org/
Goto that site and check if port 17011 is closed. If the site cannot see you, it means the required worm port is still blocked. (which I have a hunch it still is)
Handy site Etho, i'll have to remember that ;).
Yeah. That's slightly more useful than whatismyip.com

What if my Router changed my ip adress i am unable to look at that port site.
becuz it uses the wrong ip adress.
It should still use the right IP address, because it *sends* its IP as the return address when it requests the page.

Error: I could not see your service on xx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port (17011)
Reason: Connection refused
Yeah, that means you're ports aren't forwarded correctly. Your IP will be fine.
It will only work if you are hosting a game, sillies. It looks for a service running on that port. I can host games behind a router, and I tried 17011, but it didn't work because I wasn't running the game-hosting service, obviously.

Why not use the port scanning website from the W4 help guide?
https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
/edit, oh it looks like it's doing the same thing. I'm sure it used to work though.

Because this doesn´t help, too.
Guys... the game ports are only open while the game is running...

It used to work alright. It's possible the windows firewall has been updated or the new firmware on my router made a differece
Ok, opening, lol
I used that guide to open port 17011, my router is a D-Link so I had no problems, that guide told me exactly what to do
But even doing it the port seems to be blocked, that site gave me that error too
And I'm not using any firewall D:
What about in windows? Go to Start-Control Panel-Security center. If it says Firewall: On, you have a firewall software of some kind running. Have a look at www.nanacide.com/wahelp for instructions to configure it.
Also, make sure you've configured WA properly.
Windows firewall seems to be deactivated
It's under something called "group policy" and I can't turn it on anyway, don't know why it happened...
If I check the firewall's status through cmd it says it's off
Well.. My router's a D-Link (ugh..) I have the virtual server thing with port 17011 , both TCP and UDP, and the port checking site says..
"Success: I can see your service on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on port (17011)
Your ISP is not blocking port 17011"
And I still can't host, lol .-.
try it with 6667 and 80 as well
well if we have the ports forwarded but that site still cannot see you, what can you do?
Didn't you read my post? You have to have a service running on that port (AKA have to be hosting a game). So, run WA, host a game, minimize, then try that port checker.

theres no point if no1 can join ur game that pretty much answers ur question

Well, if you want to test if those ports are forwarded correctly, you would have to do what Lex said.
Maybe noone wanted to join your game at the moment you checked?
Got the IPX protocol installed on your network device?
Had to do that to mine to be able to host.

Or maybe he typed a password and locked it (:rolleyes::rolleyes: )

Or maybe he dreamed that he has a computer. :D
I said that site says the port is ok, but I still can't host. So maybe something else is blocking me, don't know.
I tried the other two ports but my router is kinda messed up and I can't really handle the configurations freely, maybe that's why I can't host yet...

What's that? .-.
You do not have to install IPX to be able to host. Just leave your setting in WA on TCP/IP rather than IPX/SPX. Fear the IPX.

Works for LAN games only anyway, IIRC.
