Yes, I went to see the movie, and I want to share my toughts with you for no reason at all.
On one side, it was a good movie, but on the other side... they killed Charles, Cyclops, and Jean.... that means, I'll never get to see an X-men movie featuring Apocalypse as the villain, which I was really looking forward to since the first movie was announced...
Well, they can do it, but making it without Cyclops and Jean just wouldn't work.

Anyway, the one thing I loved about this movie is that Juggernaut finally made an appearance. And not only that, but they actually had him say the "I'm the Juggernaut, b**ch!" line, which really made my day :p

Xavier's death was completely spoiled for me by the goddamn whining child those inconsiderate jerks would not remove from the theater.

Oh well, the movie still dripped awesome. Magneto was spectacular.

For those who really want to know... PM me, and I'll tell you the extra scene.

I think the extra scene has Prof X in someone elses body or something.

I have yet to see it, I'm not too excited since I found out they kill off characters, cure Rogue, removed Nightcrawler, and left out Gambit.

It has Juggernaut, that makes it better than X2.
And yes, they should've put Gambit in it.
Also, the Rogue is cured thing, remember that Magneto appears to be getting his powers back at the end, I'm assuming this would mean the cure had a temporary effect only, so I spect that, were there to be another Xmen movie, Rogue would gain her powers back eventually...

Bow down before my supreme intellect. Anyway Ratner butchered the franchise with this monstrosity, character development was all traded away for one note action sequences and flashy effects. Its mostly the writers fault for creating such a god awful script, but the director is as much to blame as anyone.

On one side, it was a good movie, but on the other side... they killed Charles, Cyclops, and Jean....

Nobody truely dies in X-Men. EVER. It's the number one rule of the franchise. They may appear to be dead now, but if they make another movie, there'll be some convoluted way to explain how they came back to life (though, in Scott's case, we never actually saw the body...).

Wolverine alone has died over half a dozen times, and every time he gets resurrected somehow.

As for how they'll all come back:

Xavier: We already know that his consciousness still exists.

Jean: Phoenix is an immortal noncoporeal being (really, it is), and it won't allow its host to die. She'll either come back as Jean or as regular Phoenix (aka: the non-psychotic-killer version).

Scott (Cyclops): We never saw his body, therefore, there's two possibilities:
1) Jean comes back as regular Phoenix and reconstructs his body, assuming he died.
2) He just comes back, assuming he didn't die.

We also know that Jean and Scott have to come back, so they can have their child, arguably the most powerful mutant in all of X-Men (and depending on what dimension your in, will eventually become Cable following the techno-virus).

The mutant 'cure' will wear off on everyone that took it, at some point. That's evident from the language and visuals associated with it (we'll ignore Magneto, it could be argued that as an above average mutant, it wouldn't have the same effect). First off, they call it a suppressant. They specifically state that it doesn't destroy the mutant gene, just stops it from taking effect. That, in itself, tells you that the 'cure' can't be permenant; have you ever heard of a suppressant that lasts for any great period of time? Also, we have the scene between Beast and Leech. When Beast reached toward him, his mutated hand rapidly changed back into a human hand. When he turned back, it changed back to it's mutated form, but at a much slower rate. This shows that the effects of Leech's power are temporary once you leave his field. Therefore, once the 'cure' had worked itself through the system and been discarded, the body would return to its mutated state.

Essentially, this movie is just like the comics. Everybody does a lot of stuff, but effectively accomplishes nothing but preserving peace for a short while longer.

And may Ratner never get his hands on the next movie, if there is one.

I went to see it about a week ago. I haven't seen 1 or 2 so didn't understand everything but at the end I swear that chess piece wobbled when Magneto was going to move it. If so, maybe he hasn't lost his powers?

Yes, it wobbles.

I saw it today and I must say it was the funniest film of the year.

"Oh my stars and garters!"

Most of the fight scenes had me in fits of giggles.

The only exceptions being the one at the start (Yay Sentinels! ... oh.) and the one at Jeans house, before she turned Charlie into a shower of M&Ms.

A couple of points though, where the hell did Kitty and beast spring from? If I remember corectly there was a girl who walked through walls in the first 2 films, but she was about 12. Last time we saw beas was in X2, in the background on a tv screen, obviously before he went all blue and hairy. Betweeen the two films he somehow managed to turn ito fraiser and spontaneously generate a vaugue backstory with the professor.:p

Anyone here think the bridge was excessive?

The thing tht most bothered me about the film was the bit just before they stab Magneto with the cure:

Wolveren notices a broken gun case with THREE doses of the cure. He looks meaningfuly a Beast.

The exchange meaningful glances for aproximately 5 minutes.

Cut to Magnito and Pyro doing mean things with cars and fire, with Jean not doing much in the background.

Meaningful glances.

Three doses of the cure

Magnito, Pyro, Jean.

Then they go and stick all three of them in Magnito.:p Yeah, well done guys.

Huh? From the Marvel comic books perhaps?
(Shadowcat (http://www.marveldirectory.com/individuals/s/shadowcat.htm) & Beast (http://www.marveldirectory.com/individuals/b/beast.htm))
I haven't read much of them, but I do think that the 3 recent movies might be out of canon a bit with the comics.

Yeah, sure, because it's easier for 2 people to distract 3 mutants (including the most powerful ever seen by Xavier) and stick a needle into them.
They obviously had a hard time with Magneto alone.

You seem to have missed the point entirely.

I have no problem with the movie deviating from the comics, but in this case the two characters have completely changed between films.

Magnito didn't realy take that much distracting.

OH LOOK IT'S WOLVERENE! Stab.

Hardly rocket science.

If the'd actualy stoped to think about it they could have easily saved the day without actualy kiling Jean. I realy didn't expect them just to stab her. They spent a good deal of time building up the little bald kid who stoped mutant's powers from working and then did nothing with him. All they had to do was walk him up to Jean and give her the cure (there was a whole load of it just lying around).

Except that... Jean's can't die.

And as for why they didn't use the 'cure' on her, it's fairly simple. She vaporized a few hundred vials that were shot at her without even flinching. And then she proceeded to wipe out every single vial on the island when she went beserk from that. Do you honestly think that she would have any problem blowing away one vial of the 'cure'?

Not if the bald kid was standing right next to her she couldn't.

Not if the bald kid was standing right next to her she couldn't.
But Jean could arguably have vaporised the bald kid from a safe distance. She did it with a bunch of soldiers.

I actually enjoyed X3, if you ignore the really shoddy directing.

philby4000
7 Jun 2006, 12:06
yes, but arguably she could have vaporized all the main characters.:p

It just seems like such a copout of an ending, instead of dealing with the problem they just murderize her.

And look! Important internet people agree with me!:p

http://pvponline.com/

At the end of the movie, when Wolverine kills Jean to stop her, I wasn't bothered by the death, just by the obvious plot holes. Why not take that kid and run him up to Jean to give her a big power-cancelling hug? Or how about instead of stabbing her with claws, stab her with the cure like you did Magneto?

MtlAngelus
8 Jun 2006, 05:00
Well, if you didn't notice, the only reason why Wolverine got that close to her, was because he has the ability to regenerate really fast. If he had tried to run with the kid to her, the kid wouldn't have survived, not to mention that the kid wasn't even around Wolverine when Jean went berzerk(Ghost girl took him to a safe place I think).
And Wolverine wasn't specting Jean to go Berzerk, that happened because a bunch of soldiers started shooting at her.
Aaaalso, Jean destroyed everything just as she went Berzerk, no time for Wolverine to go and find a needle of the stuff, and if he had kept one, Jean would have known and would most likely obliterate him.

So, HA!

Also, replace Jean with Phoenix when said replacing applies.

Glenn

It's very simple why Wolverine didn't carry the kid up to her.

He would have died.

End of story. Better luck coming up with a theory next time.
