After seeing this on the SA forums, I just had to rip off try it here.
Basically, I'll make a family of 6 Sims based on forum members, use a money cheat to get them into a reasonably spacious and furnished house, and then just let the game run itself, only interacting where absolutely necessary. Then I take screenshots of interesting moments and describe each day's events. Ordinarily I would of course go ahead and nominate Zeor, Pikkul, and myself for three of the tenants, but in this case that kind of favouritism is getting old. I'd rather see people like S2K, SupSuper, and thomasp in Sim form.
So, if you want to participate, just speak up, and preferably provide either a photo, sketch or description I can work from, or if
you happen to own the game as well, make your own Sim in the Body Shop and send it over MSN. I'll also need to distribute the personality points, but I need to finish reinstalling the game and remind myself how many points there are to distribute. If you don't provide these, I'll have to work from my imagination. :p
I'm putting a cap on 6 Sims, because a lot can only hold 8 and I want to make room in case of unexpected events... plus my processor is actually just below the so-called minimum requirements, and with that many Sims the game is already going to run like hell. :p
One final detail: I was figuring we'd all just have our characters start in the adult stage, but if you want to be a teenager, child, or senior, go right ahead. Just keep in mind there needs to be at least one adult in the house or the family won't be accepted.

bonz is constructed, unfortunately there wasn't any option for a clown nose or green hair, and the red lipstick is automatically obscured by the costume makeup. So you've ended up looking more like a mime.
Oh well, just so long as I can tell everyone apart. :p Starting on SupSuper now.
Edit: Done. thomasp next...

Okay, the first three are set to go. Still waiting on Star Worms and Pikkul's characters, and whoever the sixth member turns out to be. I'm still kind of hoping to get S2K in on this, but who knows when he'll be online.
Meantime, we'll still need a last name for the family. I was thinking along the lines of Teamster. Any other suggestions?
Edit: I completley forgot, everyone'll need to pick an aspiration. Fortune, Knowledge, Family, Romance, Popularity. It's also good to keep in mind that having, say, one Family Sim and one Popularity Sim should mean that there'll always be one who has a habit of cleaning up and taking care of things, and one who ensures that there's always a conversation going. Without at least one Family Sim, things will probably go to crap. :p

Ben's spending some time offline at the mo' to sort out his creative issues. If he isn't available, I'd like to be your sixth contestant. Sadly I've never played The Sims so I can't give you a body or stats, but I can give you a couple of pics, a description and a character profile.

I'm average height, not especially fit but there's certainly nothing wrong with me. I normally wear jeans, T-shirts and boots. Current set is black, green and black respectively. Brown curly hair and smarmy expression. I'm to the point, not afraid to talk the truth and love finding irony in things. I'm a bit bi.tchy about people behind their backs but only in fun ways. I like to listen to people and inquire about their thoughts, feelings and issues, to make them feel noticed. I'm always ready for my friends. I'm generally witty but I can be slow to respond with something amusing. Being polite costs nothing. I work in retail in an electronics chain, understand sales law, why customer service matters and how to give a good impression. I'm getting to the stage where I think some people could be 'fixed' if they got a smack in the mouth, and I'm happy to blame/credit my mum for that. I like videogaming, computery stuff, internet, comedy, wonderful places and architecture, and spiritualism. Also, if my second name was Freddy my initials would be MFAH :o
Surname sounds good :)

stuff
Whoa there, all I need is some way of getting a semi-decent lookalike of you dumped in the game. The only things I have control over (besides the blatantly obvious like gender and age) are skin tone, hair style and colour, just about every aspect of the face, and a few specific sets of clothes (everyday, PJ's, formal, etc., I don't even have control over whether you get shoes or sandals). Then for the personality, I have to choose an aspiration and distribute 25 points into the five categories Star Worms listed -- failing that, the points can be auto-distributed by choosing your astrological sign. No need for a full bio, the Sims are their own masters once I've input the basic parameters.

Then the game is flawed!
Sorry, I thought you were going to make little comics and generate the stories yourself with our personalities in mind. My sun sign is Cancer. Sorry for the information overload :) Use what you need.
Another attribute of my personality is I like to talk about myself and intentionally mislead people. Trust me.

For the personality points do they have to be 25 points out of 50?
I was under the impression the Sims only lets you use half the points when creating a charcater.
Romance aspiration for me please.

What I mean is that you can distribute 25 points in total. I never counted how many slots there are for points, but now that you mention it there probably are 50.
Edit: So, yeah, thomasp, you're going to have to give me a slightly different distribution of points. :p

Akuryou apparently suffers from narcolepsy.
thomasp immediately heads for the bathroom to admire the shower. Starworms also heads in and...

Everyone seems to have split up into groups of two; bonz and worMatty head for the kitchen, where bonz decides to launch into a lecture on smoke alarms.
27430
bonz is undeterred by thomasp's intrusion and Akuryou's noisy, high-res thoughts.

DAY 1 (part 2)
EVERYONE has gathered in the kitchen. Akuryou, going against his decidedly grumpy nature, offers worMatty a hug, who outright refuses. Score one for good sense.
...And worMatty just offered to hug Akuryou, who in return also refused. Common sense: 1, Sims logic: 1.
And damnit, SupSuper and Starworms are still going at it.
27440
SupSuper finally has enough homoerotic indulgence and breaks off from the group to go explore upstairs.
27441
...Or maybe explore his artistic side. Whichever.
worMatty also heads upstairs.
27442
Yessir, that is one fine piece of equipment.
27443
Yep.
Meanwhile, back in the kitchen, bonz tells Starworms something that makes him stamp his foot on the floor HARD and laugh like I've never heard a Sim laugh before. Gay Darth Vader joke?

Um, I think the general idea is to angle the scope in the general direction of "up"...

Lol that's what you get for making fun of people through a telescope.
Actually he was looking into his house, that's what happens if you look through a telescope on the Sims in day time. The annoying thing with that is, if you create a new neighbourhood, it's always (I think) the first family who you see. So whenever I'd look through the telescope with a different character, I'd run into their house and attack them...

Somewhat off-topic edit: Dead hard drive awaiting data recovery be damned, I reinstalled the game and have recreated Gordon Freeman. He's a lousy cook and dancer, but other than that, he's getting along pretty well, and of course, uses his telescope much more for spying on neighbors than stargazing. Maybe I'll make a 3rd or 4th TS2 discussion thread for him.

This made me dig up The Sims 2 again. I started using a few cheats on my other (main) family and buggered some of the houses up. When someone grew up, they'd keep the number of days So if they grew up from a Toddler to a child they'd be 3/4 to being a teenager and could grow up instantly. So a baby could become an elder in 1 day.

I can't just hop out of McDeath after two and a half weeks of working there. That would look exceptionally poor on any resume. I need something like a minimum of 4 months before I set my sights for greener pastures. Like even EB or something. I am slowly getting accustomed to things, but by God it leaves me drained and sore at the end of the day. I've also just noticed someone of the female persuasion working there who seems really nice, but it seems like she rarely comes in during my shifts. First chance I get, I'm gonna ask if she uses any web messengers. Innocent enough way of getting my foot in the door, I think.
I just hope she doesn't smoke. It seems like pretty much everyone I'm working with there smokes, I just wasn't aware of it at first because they only do so outside, and on their break, so they don't typically reek of it.

Time passes and night falls pretty well without incident. Four a.m. arrives and the slackermobile rolls by. Starworms and worMatty awake and promptly pile in. bonz, on the other hand...
27521
...is too much of a slacker to even head off to his slacker job. New record.
27522
YOU HAVE SEVEN DAYS.
It's ringing off the hook for about 47 minutes before SupSuper finally decides to answer. He calls for bonz, who picks up.

A pretty uneventful day passes. Starworms and worMatty get back from their first day of work. Starworms actually grabs the paper, goes inside and reads it, then takes a quick nap in the reclining chair. Yep, looks like napping in that thing's turned into a habit for this household. And despite there being a perfectly functional radio, it's only been used once -- while there's almost always somebody using the dart board.
27525
Case in point.
Somewhere along the line, Akuryou is also napping in the chair downstairs -- when suddenly he wakes up with a start, and SPRINTS to the bathroom upstairs.
27526
I've never seen a chubby gothic viking move so fast. Why he didn't just use the downstairs bathroom, I have no idea.
27528
This is also the first time I've seen a Sim wear such an expression on the crapper.
Night falls once more, and Starworms discovers the telescope.

And this continues on into the wee hours of the morning. Four a.m., to be precise. Time for work.
Surprisingly, everyone makes it to the car in time, including bonz. Time passes. They return, and worMatty is promoted to gas station attendant; meaning he'll be working the graveyard shift now. bonz also steps out in good condition. Starworms emerges, takes a great big yawn, and...
27533
...he's out for the count. worMatty waves to him as he passes out. Also note the trail of stink lines.

Actually, he spends most of his time playing darts. thomasp is the obsessive-compulsive cleaner.
In other news, I suddenly remembered that I had neglected to reinstall the patch after the main game. So I do so, and upon reentering the game I remembered that when you install a patch or expansion, it causes everyone to be standing perfectly upright with their needs pretty much completely satisfied. So, Starworms magically recovered from his coma, and thomasp, whose aspiration meter was dropping into the negatives, is now perfectly fine.
I'm such an idiot.
Edit: To make up for this, Akuryou gave himself food poisoning by eating a spoiled sandwich. Then the game crashed, and naturally I hadn't saved. URGE TO KILL RISING.
Hehe!
A distortion in the space-time-continuum.
If you have to start over, try to make everything the same as before and let's see if someone develops differently.
Just out of interest, do I even have a job?

Whoop, thanks for that reminder. I hope it doesn't reset Gordon's aspiration though... He's been Platinum pretty consistently for a good while.
Yeah, speaking of which, Gordon is an incredibly successful sim so far. He's one rung off the top of the Science career ladder, as a Theorist, earning over 1500 Simoleons a day. And stuff.

And now, for a bit of a side story. I've drummed up Sim versions of myself and Zeor as separate families, with the intention of moving them in together later. So what I had to do was get them to meet, which would be easiest in a community lot. Tried the park first. No dice, but what have we here?
27578
I couldn't resist. I got Zeor to introduce himself briefly. When Akuryou started bragging however, things kind of broke up for the night.
In an unrelated twisted web of events, both Zeor and myself have fallen in love with Dina Caliente, which has been fun to observe from a distance. Anyway, we've moved in together now (inviting Dina on a regular basis to watch as the fur flies), when Akuryou suddenly just invites himself into the house. Munkee Sim decides pretty quickly that he doesn't like him.

27584
It's the eye of the tiger, it's the thrill of the fight o/¯
Apparently I'm an utter weakling; I've noticed that I have much less success with the exercise machine off the bat than Zeor did. About half as much. But that also means that I gain the first two "body" levels in practically no time at all.

At this point, Zeor suggested that maybe the household's fridge had run empty and required restocking. Now, when this happens and a Sim's hunger level gets critical, they're supposed to eat out of the trash can on the sidewalk. I guess the lot of you would either prefer death to eating out of trash cans, or you just lack basic survival instincts of any kind. I'm leaning towards the latter.
Since, for some odd reason, ordering replacement groceries is one of the few things a Sim absolutely cannot do autonomously, I got one of the few of you awake to call for a delivery.

Nobody else could get to the sandwiches because of his corpse. After another hour or so, he'd recovered enough energy for me to wake him up, but then a minor glitch took effect and I couldn't interact with the half-prepared sandwiches. (I'd decided by this point that I didn't want anyone to die from hunger in quite such a fashion.) Fortunately, worMatty took over of his own accord.
27654
Everyone who isn't asleep or still full joins in, and a great time is had by all. Akuryou, at some point, got out of bed and is just sitting at one end of the table again, perhaps meditating.

Monkey, a good idea would be to only post (medium-sized) thumbnails in here which link to the full-size image hosted somewhere.
Imageshack can do that, if Photobucket can't.
It'd reduce loading times for pages and stop the annoying jumping of the page when the full height of an image has loaded.

Can Sim's actually die (unnaturally)?
Star Worms
24 Jan 2007, 22:56
They can die but it's very rare - they're unlikely to die until they are elders.
However adults can die by drowning, by flies, burning, starvation. However - if they die from starvation I've heard that the ghost will take food from the fridge. If they drown the ghost drops water around the place. There are other ways too that I cannot remember.
You omitted electrocution, scared by a ghost, and falling satellite (probably the rarest, but I don't really know about the swarm of flies.)
Speaking of death, parallel Old Man Munkee finally just kicked the bucket of old age (actually a fairly cute/amusing way to go in TS2), meaning I only have a few days left myself. :-/ We were actually the same age, but I was always a happier Sim, which looks like it'll give me an extra 4-5 days.

I hate drowning. My mom once drowned my whole family because her Sim fell asleep on the pool exit and she stubbornly decided that hitting Save would only affect her Sims, not mine. Sad day that was. :(
Drowning ghosts would probably suck to have around the house, too.

Not with one of my handy dandy homemade MESSBUSTER 9000Xes.
Anyway, I've played a couple more rounds of the Teamster household since the last update, but the sad truth of it is that you guys are just being incredibly downright boring now. Meanwhile, all sorts of cool stuff is going on over in my main house and I was wondering if everyone would prefer I switch to mainly posting updates about them instead of the Teamsters, or just let the thread stagnate even more than it has to.
I can pretty well guarantee through recent events that Akuryou will be showing up eventually regardless.

Before we continue, a belated response:
Monkey, a good idea would be to only post (medium-sized) thumbnails in here which link to the full-size image hosted somewhere.
Imageshack can do that, if Photobucket can't.
It'd reduce loading times for pages and stop the annoying jumping of the page when the full height of an image has loaded.
The images will then also fit the text area for people that use the purple retro skin.
Screw Imageshack, their accounts system freaking sucks and they don't have a convenient multiple-upload option. I apologize to 56k users, but if you can't take the sand don't go to the beach. As for the purple retro skin, I'm using it and have no issue with the pictures stretching beyond the text area and thereby incurring those annoying framed scroll arrows. So if it isn't broken on my end, as far as I'm concerned, you're the one who's broken. :p

Right, where were we. First, I replicated our house from scratch on a larger lot, since we were just completely out of room on the one we had. That was tedious. I honestly wish they'd added an option to transplant constructions onto a different lot.
I took up meditation to pass the time, since once you reach the top of your career ladder you find yourself actually having spare time in which you don't feel obligated to cap your skills. I learned teleportation, but I honestly can't see it being used as a shortcut even on the largest lots, since you have to meditate for about 45 minutes solid every time you want to start levitating and make teleportation possible again.

I probably forgot to mention anywhere that I had proposed to Cassandra quite some time ago, only afterwards remembering that when someone moves in, they no longer count as a family friend. As I was barely riding the edge of number of family friends needed for Zeor's final promotion, I simply decided to wait a while for the actual wedding. Then I decided to wait until Pikkul hit the top of his career, but since he's turned to home robotics and I had the day (night) off from work, I decided this was the time.
