View Full Version : It's been a long, long time.
Hello.
Most of you won't know me; its been many years since I've posted here. But here I am, still alive, well, and, well, here :o.
Good to see this place is still prospering. I see a few familiar names about the place. Oh, and happy birthday Spadge... forgot to send you an Email (as usual). I see Sel is still around too! Given the number of webmasters I saw Team17 go through, its good to see you've stuck around.
I'm also interested to see Deadcode, and the WA patch prospering; even after so many years. Ah what history that game had, with patches and otherwise!
Anyways, I must be off again. Hello to all who remember me. You can still find me on GameSurge IRC - #Worms as usual, as well as other networking help channels etc. Though I must admit, I don't expect to be there for much longer... my time working with that community is coming to a close.
Hello and farewell wormy warriors. You might *just* see me on a WA server one day soon.
Oh!
You post your yearly post quite soon this year. :)

Ah, there you are ;). Welcome back, albeit briefly.
I guess the community is prospering really. It just seems more and more of a case of "Worms Community 2 is dead, long live Worms Community 3...". Still, I guess that's just the circle of life, or whatever you call it.
You guys don't understand. See, there's this temporal loop, and it's causing him to relive an entire year over and over again in the span of a single day...

Actually, I subscribed myself to the thread this time (and it seems to have worked, unlike last time I subscribed myself to a thread) - though I only got one Email so returned thinking I'd only had one reply...
Such was not the case as I see.
Sarge! Thomasp! I never see you guys on the network (IRC) anymore :(... 'tis part of the reason I returned to see if you two were still around.
NZKiwi hasn't posted here in a long time I'd assume? I know she up and left for the south island, and said she wouldn't be online for some time, but its been quite a long some time. Curious to know how she's gotten on...
And me? Yearly posting? I don't remember when I last posted here... Basically I was bored and ended up trolling through my old favourites, trying to delete ones that didn't go anywhere anymore. A little surprised this forum still exists; albeit without the post counts these days. I remember many a threat from Team17 in regards to closing the forums :)
And yeah, I can see that its now a "new" Worms community. Is there any decent fan sites out there alive and well, worthy of rivalling (what was) The Allotment (those of you who remember her) or Wormtopia? Or is this "the" community's central hub now? :)

They died, and basically IRC got boring... There wasn't really any reason to stay on GS, considering a couple of other chans I visited moved to other networks, which promptly got DDoS'd, along with GS.

Hi Nutter,
I’ve done well since Ive moved to the South Island (Dunedin). Took me a few months to get a job here and I enjoy the work Im doing. You wouldn’t want to loose your brakes in your car down here as the hills are pretty steep…. (and loads of black-ice in winter too).

Bersirc supports multiple servers. Nearly all clients do. But they're utter ASS at it.
I need a client that supports multiple performs for each server, seperate nicknames, etc. etc.

Anyway, yes, the community has become rather centralised on the Team 17 Forums. Dream 17 is the only notable T17 website I can think of that was made recently. Although there has been a fair bit of spreading in the direction of deviantArt and SheezyArt: many of us have an account on one of those now.

But, as far as I know, there's no way to automate it when you run (because there's only one perform on connect AFAIK, so as you're connecting multiple times you cannot have it in there).

mIRC has multiple Perform on Connect's. Which is how you connect to a new server group only once -- setup mIRC to connect to one server automatically, then in the perform specific to that network, set it to create connections to all the other networks.
Or write a script :).

I hope you pick a good day for the GameSurge visit. #worms has been more or less the same 20 or so people for the past few months, with outsiders only coming in occasionally, but the never ending fads and little wars among us are entertaining enough when we aren't all busy with other stuff. That does happen sometimes, although the links in the topic might just distract you until we get back to our seats in case you pick a bad moment.

And strange that after many failed attempts at sustaining the #worms channel, it takes my departure for it to be invigorated once more.
I'll pop by at some point. About time I revisit my old IRCOp colleagues anyway.
How are we all?
CL2K has gone eh?
FB? I don't think I was around for that one.
I still have to say though, The Allotment stole my heart. But then I'm biased aren't I? :)
That and (the original) www.worms2.com.
The very old W2W forum still exists, though plagued by the occasional spammer for some reason.
Actually, I'm only on MSN these days. I still know my ICQ password, but I don't really know anyone still using it (and to be frank, are avoiding a few people on it to boot).
You're welcome to add me.
I might have a look at the wiki too - if I get a chance. Apparently the staff script I wrote for GameSurge doesn't work on mIRC 6.20+, so I have half been roped in to fixing that too. (I was a tad surprised people are still heavily using it, given it hasnt been touched in well over 18 months)
No! We are limited to one Nutter visitation a year! Those are the rules! They are there for a reason! Were Nutter to appear twice in one year it would have grave reprocussions. REPENT YE SINNERS! THE END IS NIGH!:eek:
hiya nutter, though I'd be surprised if you even knew my name :p
Meh. :p
How grave could those repercussions be anyway?
Or is "grave" used as the noun there?

Not that kind of inappropriate. They are somewhat anti-Team17 stuff.
Having said that, all I can seem to find is "Worms World Party Active Fresh" - a very short flash video. That and Punisher's 'sigworm' that was created for The Allotments IRC scripts, though I'm not sure that was Cheech's doing. Oh and a few grabs of the words "Worms Armageddon" extracted from WWP.exe. Other misc stuff. etc.
Perhaps not as funny as I remembered. Or perhaps I'm just growing old.

All I seem to see is rehashed backgrounds and weapons with a new single player set of missings, upgraded (fire/explosion) graphics, and not a lot else. I assume this is why it's not being released to the PC?

Team17 released Worms for Xbox Live Arcade on 2007. Worms 2: Armageddon is the sequel to this game, available currently on XBLA only, although Team 17 have stated that it will also come out on PC later this year. The title is a homage to W:A given it is its 10th anniversary. It's nowhere near being a mesh of W2 and W:A.
We suspect the PC version will have a different title, but nothing has been confirmed.
Ah yes, and it's 2d indeed. Worms 4 was the last 3d title, since then they've released 6 2d titles, two for handhelds, two for XBLA, one for the wii(almost forgot that one) and one for PSN.
It is being released for PC/Mac hopefully by the end of summer. Initial release was on XBLA.

As for your edited question, it seems that 10 years of progress has only brought us prettier graphics and hats at the expense of customization and depth. The game does have a few new weapons (some interesting new additions like the Magnet, Lighting Strike and Buffalo of Lies), but they did cut several weapons from W:A.
Akuryou13
8 Jul 2009, 11:45
well there's not much to do with the worms series at this point other than upgrade graphics and add new weapons and game modes. the formula in W:A was perfect.
I've been playing Crazy Planets on Facebook, which is similar to Worms in some respects but the main thing I'd like to see Team17 steal from that game is the round levels.
Each level is a planet you can walk around. It takes about 30 seconds to walk around the entire planet, so they're not very big. It's cool shooting bazookas round the planet twice before they hit the target. I wouldn't want a Worms game dedicated purely to planet style levels but as an option it would be cool.

edit: waha! found it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYqWI87Qhzo
The difference in Crazy Planets is that the planet/camera rotates so that you're always on the top but you can move the camera left/right. The camera zooms out so you can see yourself on the planet and rotates so you can see further away.
This does look interesting, though.
edit: Now that I've messed about with it I'm less interested. I may not have found the optimum setting yet but it still feels like it wouldn't work properly in a game. I look forward to finding out, though :)
I remember playing a game a long time ago that was like that, well maybe more like gunbound actually. But unlike the game you are talking about this game had many small planets, all with gravity. I can't remember the name of it which really bugs me. Could only be played 2 too 4 people, but that might have just been in the shareware version.
It had some interesting weapons, some that dug through the planets and exploded on the other side, or walking bombs that crawled over holes made by weapons.
Gah, now I really want to find it!

I find it best just to use a regular map since then you can't predict how the gravity's gonna react relative to the map, so everything can get crazy insane and it's hilarious.
I might eventually post the fun fun fun adventures me, Mad and Paul had with that once.
the formula in W:A was perfect.
I'd swap W:A with Worms2, but that's just me :)
W2:A for PC will (solely) be distributed via Steam.
And seeing that W2:A only cost 800 MS points on XBLA, I'd suspect that it will be somewhere in the 10-15€ range on Steam too, which is very nice.
If a Mac release is true, I'm wondering how it will get distributed there.
Does Apple have some digital distribution system? Does iTunes work for games too?
Otherwise I'd think that they'd make a retail hybrid disk release.

My point was that people seem to ignore WWP...my point was that they ignore it because it's effectively the same as W:A and everyone already owned and loved W:A when WWP was released. W:A had the ranking system so the community was established better in W:A even after the removal of said ranks.

Well to be fair at the time I had WWP and didn't have W:A - and yet I still ignore WWP now. It's hard not to, what with W:A having resizable custom maps and the Rubberworms mod and stuff.
Then again, I haven't played W:A in a while either. There's too many other games now.
worMatty
12 Jul 2009, 12:43
It's silly to ignore WWP just because W:A was better than W:2. WWP has a lot of cool features.
I just WISH it had a decent random WormPot picker like a slot machine, where you pull the handle, you get some random choices and are forced to start the game with them :-)
I hope, when WWP can be used to join WormNET 1, it works like the beta with older versions, where you will play WWP if others are using it but W:A if they are not.
WWP isn't going to be able to be used to join WormNET1. It's a pack that installs W:A in a separate location. You can then start W:A or WWP with the same CD. But you can't use WWP and W:A together in the same game.
worMatty
13 Jul 2009, 23:11
Ah, I thought I read somewhere that was something they were working on.
I just WISH it had a decent random WormPot picker like a slot machine, where you pull the handle, you get some random choices
Well, they implemented exactly that feature in W3D, a slot machine with 3 reels, buttons to spin them separately and a large handle to spin them randomly.
and are forced to start the game with them
That would actually be a nice optional feature!
Suggest it for WA!
AFAIR, the v4.0 patch (or even earlier) will enable to play WA with a WWP CD, because most of the streaming data (music, maps, missions) are the same.
You will however not be able to play WWP with a WA CD.
For that, the patch would need to contain all the extra trainings, missions and multiplayer missions from WA and probably some more.
IIRC, a feature to import them is planned or has been discussed, also for importing W2 stuff.
My point was that people seem to ignore WWP...
I was thinking about this a couple of days ago. The only reason I got WWP was to play with CoW who had mostly made the switch to XP and couldn't play W:A. They'd have carried on with W:A if they'd not gone to XP.
AFAIR, the v4.0 patch (or even earlier)
Much earlier. In fact, I think the ETA was the next beta, though I might be wrong about that (it certainly was at the beginning, it might have changed).
WWP, WA...
I just noticed Worms for the iPhone!
Anyone per chance paid the few $$ to buy it?
Any good?
The ratings seem to be mixed. I must say I'm tempted - wanting to see if it can topple the #1 app (which has been the incumbant for some months now), Flight Control.

coworker bought it last week and I watched her play the tutorial of it. seemed pretty good for what I saw. lots of weapons and gameplay options for such a small game. I was impressed.
can't give more than a basic review of it, but it seemed to have everything one could ask for in a portable worms game.

Yup.

For a "version 1.0" release I'd say its pretty good. I've certainly had a few hours fun playing it, and only really stopped because I had to go and graduate :p The controls do need a little bit of improvement but once you learn how to get around some of the glitches, its fine.

It was #1 on the UK iTunes store the day after release, and is in fact still the #1 app. It certainly seems to get some solid reviews on the UK app store.
Given its so cheap I'd definitely buy it - heck, I did :p

Try a PM, he might have email notification on and still use the same address (assuming his PM box isn't full).
Man, that's like a level 7 invocation. MP and casting rate aren't even the issue here if it won't even let you read the tome.
Needs a group chant, methinks.

Should we ritually sacrifice an empty box in his name?

I tried all available channels.
Worf even fired a level 5 surveillance probe.
Edit:
The probe returned with Nutter's LinkedIn account:

Waiting for a reply.
It seems something is wrong with Nutter's access rights.

Could it be he lost OD access?
After all, he also doesn't have his old moderator status either.

Hello! Long time no see!
Man, been a long time since we had a good ol' fashioned nostalgia spasm. How's stuff, anyway?

Gamesurge? No; haven't been on for a long time - not since I "fixed" (or something) the GameSurge staff script when mIRC made some doo-di programming change with a newer version.
In fact I haven't been keeping track of much of anything - my iLife has mostly vanished with the onset of pairing up with someone special, having two dogs to walk several times a day, a job that gives me money and lots of bills that take it all away again.
Hows things here? I see the Official Mac Campaigner is still here even after 10+ years...
Sorry about Stevie by the way - is Apple now going to go the way of Microsoft?
Or worse?

Yes, still here, for my sins :p
Time will tell with Apple! I'm still surrounded by my iStuff, so that'll keep me content for a couple of years :p

I'd like to think the company is infected pretty deeply with Jobs' mentality and eye for design, although I imagine they might drop the game a little where 'skating to where the puck is going' is concerned.

Not much. :p
Team17 wise, there's been some new worms games, a 2D one (Worms 2 Armageddon / Worms Reloaded), a 3D one (Worms Ultimate Mayhem) and a ??? one (Worms Crazy Golf).
Iiii still don't look outside of OD much anymore, but yeah, we're achieving pretty impressive new levels of dead.
