View Full Version : Why not W2+WA+WWP?
I heard that DC is planning on merging WA with WWP a while ago. Then I thought "Why not all three?:)"

cos w2 aint got an active online community.

Actually I'd like to merge in W2 too, but this is not as definite a plan.
would that mean making w2 roping like WA and WWP? if so I'd rather not :P
edit: And why do people say W2 isnt active. Thats BS, w2 is more active then WWP is. Maybe not W:A but at certain times of the day you can find 20+ people in cases, and even its league is WAY more active then the WWP one.

would that mean making w2 roping like WA and WWP? if so I'd rather not :PNo, that would be impossible, as by "merging in W2" I mean adding the ability to play with people who are still using W2 itself. That means the emulation would have to be perfect, and the rope would have to act the same as it does in W2.
Just curious as to how you're merging the games btw Deadcode, will you like, for example, require WWP to be able to "merge" it with W:A, or is it just a system that allows you to play against either W:A/WWP/W2 users with all the game-exclusive stuff available, but only in the online compartment of the game?
[EDIT] Better example, WWP guy hosts a WWP game, will W:A guy be able to join and play with the WWP exclusive-scheme features, or will it all fall-back to the LCD (lowest common denominator), aka, the W:A player.
I'm pretty sure this is still the plan [in general]:
1. WA gets updated and somewhere along the way...
2. ... a downloadable version of WA becomes avalible. The catch with this version is that it will let you play WA [and not WWP] using the WWP disc. So practically the games won't merge, but rather the WWP people will be given a chance to play the game with ongoing support.
If by that time WA has already been updated to include WWP Wormpot modes, then yes, you will be able to use WWP features. Otherwise no.
As for including W2 in the merge, wouldn't that become too complicated due to the disc not being similar enough? We all know WA and WWP are practically the same, but is W2 just about the same, too? Maybe someday having WA capable of emulating W2 gameplay wouldn't be bad, it would get all Worms people on the same network if nothing else.

Ah ok, yeah when I think of it now it would be quite impossible unless a new w2 is recompiled. But yes, a w2 roping emulation on W:A would be awesomely sweet =]

I'm pretty sure this is still the plan [in general]:
[snip]No. My plan used to be as simple as that, but after I implemented WA v3.0 emulation, I thought "Why not do the same for WWP?" The groundwork I layed with WA v3.0 emulation would make WWP emulation rather easy.
I plan to make it so that people who have either a WA CD or a WWP CD (or both) can patch up and play online in either of the two Wormnets (on Wormnet 2, they could play against people who are using plain old WWP).
The W2 part of the plan would mean that those same people could log onto the Worms 2 network and play against people who are using plain old Worms 2. It does not mean that the WA patch would work with a Worms 2 installation/CD.

hmm, i miss minigunning the entire terrain to a badass void wiv 1 high power minigun :D
edit: we'll be able to change res like on wa right? cause that's kinda the reason i never play w2.

First of all, for now, you can change your w2 resolution with S*natch's patch.
Secondly, yes, of course you'll be able to set your resolution. You'll be playing on the w2 Wormnet *using* WA.
I was rather thinking of just flip all three games into one single game, having all the best features of each, or is that what you guys are saying too?:p
But since I read what Deadcode wrote, I understand it isn't that easy:(
DC, are you saying that W2 doesn´t use the same engine or something?:( I thought it did

lol, no, all the best features will be in W:A

yep.
w:a will be a "egg-laying wool-milk-sow" then. :D

WA uses the W2 engine, (crashing WA shows W2.exe running in the background), but it's definatly not exactly the same, probably just an updated version of it. Lots of stuff was changed in the making of WA. The gravity, the sounds, the death animations (explodable graves were removed!!!! :(), grenades had timers... differently... Alot will be changing the sprites and is probably cosmetic but alot was also changed.

i think that most of the stuff was simply edited/tweaked.
I see, Dave. Not that it bothers me, I've got all three discs. Some of them in pairs.

First of all, for now, you can change your w2 resolution with S*natch's patch. But S*natch's patch is buggy when doing high resolutions. The sprites are not properly aligned with the landscape.
But S*natch's patch is buggy when doing high resolutions. The sprites are not properly aligned with the landscape.
It's still the best temporary solution available. Besides, how high are you talking about? I used 1280×1024, and everything looked absolutely perfect in relation to sprite alignment. The only imperfection was the top and bottom of the screen in cavern maps, where there was no redraw code, so they just ended up being covered in flashing graphics, such as the descending name tags.
thats what Deadcode Said.
The actual game "layer" where the sprites are is perfectly convereted to the new resolution. But if you check the "health bars" they're a bit misplaced. Not that it really matters :p

If I didn't know any better, I'd say this sounds like one of those impossible projects that never stops growing in scope.
Come to think of it, I don't know any better and I do say that.

i love the Worms-Random-option from Worms2.
At first Sight it looks like a lucky game. But it isnt. Its total tacticle but both players are about equal in skill then luck decides. But this is like in elite now.
2nd thing i love is the rcoket-rope-Jump for very fast rope moving at the top of a level. So there r some other tacticle schemes possible then just elite.
But the best thing was the possibility to change everything inotpions, what i wanna change. Such things like Crate-Intelligence. I dont know it ..but if the code from w2 is a basisclass for W:A, that shouldnt be a big problem.

One thing
What about the online Multiplayer Missions?

One thing
What about the online Multiplayer Missions?Yes, those too. Otherwise it wouldn't be full WWP compatibility.
Also, the multiplayer mission bug will be gone (in WWP, if you change the mission after somebody has joined, the game will desync because on their end the scheme will still be the same as when they joined).
i'm surprised no one here's criticized WWP for being more or less a duplicate of W:A with a different frontend and a few new options. granted, they were very nice additions, and adding authentication to WN was a big move on sascha's part, but it's still like comparing windows 2000 to xp... it's a .1 version difference.
i may sound cynical but this actually helps in terms of making the two games compatable with each other online. the project might always be expanding in scope, but nothing's impossible yet.

plenty of people have criticized WWP for that reason. I think we just got bored of it in the end, it was so long ago.

I saw this on a wiki worms 2 has 2 wepons that are not in wwp and wa the Homing Cluster Bomb and Homing Strike see right here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Worms_weapons_and_tools maybe thay could add Homing Cluster Bomb,Homing Strike,chainsaw,Sheep-On-A-Rope,and a aqua sheep that will stay and wont turn into super sheep
also the chainsaw in the gba ver of wwp and Sheep-On-A-Rope is in worms the Directors Cut
Anyone got a time machine handy? I want to go into the year 2010 and check out the last patch then come back with it :)
Where is doc brown when you reallly need him:(
worms 2 has 2 wepons that are not in wwp and wa the Homing Cluster Bomb and Homing Strike
It also has the cloned sheep, the confused sheep strike (not burning) and the french nuke test (not poisoning).
Sheep-On-A-Rope
I've heard that Deadcode has a fully-rotateable sheep-on-a-rope sprite from an original artist.

the chainsaw is in wwp-gba-ver along with the homing strike
and the homing Cluster Bomb weird is it
and I heard that if you use a code in wormsDC you get a rubber ball wepon is it true look here http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/amiga/code/927607.html it says to tipe PONG in capatal letters if it is true show proof a pitcher/video
becouse I cant find one and just found this out the magnet code is the magnet a wepon also show proof

Nope, those are not weapons.
