HowTo: Hosting behind a router
Forward ports 17010, 17011, and 17012 on your router to your computer's internal network address. To find your internal network address, you can use winipcfg.exe for Windows 9X/ME. In Windows XP, you'll need to run command.com and then ipconfig.exe.
Consult your router's documentation if you're unsure of how to forward ports using your specific hardware. (RTFM)
Edit: I have just been made aware of a resource called www.portforward.com, which is a free port forwarding guide for most common routers. I cannot vouch for all of it's information, though it did outline the correct method for my router. Use at your own risk.
You can do the next step one of two ways. You can download the attached txt file which has the appropriate registry keys, or you can do it manually.
If you're doing it the easy way:
Edit the attached txt file, replacing 127.0.0.1 with your external IP address. This can be found a variety of ways, one of the more popular is http://whatismyip.com/.
Rename the file to .reg, and execute. Say 'Yes' when you're asked if you'd like to add the information to the registry.
Done!
The manual way:
Using Regedit.exe, find this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team17SoftwareLTD\
WormsWorldParty\NetSettings\AddressOverride
Set its value to '1'.
Then find this key in the same directory:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team17SoftwareLTD\
WormsWorldParty\NetSettings\LocalAddress
Set its value to your external IP address. You can find this a variety of ways, one of the more popular is http://whatismyip.com/.
Done!
If this doesn't help and you're using Windows XP, the built-in firewall might be enabled. To disable it, follow the steps below.
Open the start menu and select the control panel. Open 'Network Connections', and right-click on 'Local Area Connection'. Select 'Properties'. Go to the 'Advanced' tab on the window that pops up, and disable the 'Internet Connection Firewall'.
If you've tried this and you're still having problems, post in the thread and I'll do what I can.

I'm really so sorry but that has just confused me.
I have a Belkin router and the only screen I can find to forward ports is in 'Application gateways' screen where I type in Trigger Start Port and Trigger End Port. I also need to specify Trigger Type, Public type etc - I just don't understand what any of this means.
Please help

yeeeessssss i got it working
thank u thank u thank u
Thanks for this post mate. I'm now able to host behind my router. One small point though. The Team17 info on hosting says that it's port 6677 not 6667 that needs to be open. I've opened 6677 and I can host. Didnt try 6667 so I cant tell you if it makes any differance.

You guys mind helping me out here?? My router has this "Special Application" feature on it, and im not sure how to fill this out. (attached a screenshot)
Trigger Port. ???? - ????
Trigger Type: TCP / UDP / BOTH
Public Port: ????
Public Port Type: TCP / UDP / BOTH
---------------------
The public port can be as many things as i want. for instance I can put it between commas like this:
2000-2005, 2006-2020, etc. ??

sgb_sailor: You're welcome. Glad I could help.
DrooL: You're welcome. As to the port issue, 6667 works for me and it's the official W:A port IIRC, so I use it in this guide.
hilsden9: Wow. That happens when you click the host button in Wormnet? I really don't think I can help you with that. Usually the problem is that you can host games sucessfully, but nobody can join them. I'd suggest doing a search in the Support/Technical forum, and/or re-installing WWP and re-applying the patch.
ZaKaTaK: I think you should be using the 'Virtual Server' feature of your router, with each port enabled in the 'Private' and 'Public' boxes, UDP and TCP. If you could provide the model number of your router, I'd be able to give some more specific advice.

It is a D-Link DI-604, and I have tried the virtual server and it didnt work. But I had only been setting it to TCP; not UDP and TCP.

After further examination of the DI-604's manual, you'll need to use the virtual server. Find your internal IP using the guide in the first post, and enter that in the 'Private IP' text box.
Set the 'Private Port' to 6667, and the 'Protocol Type' to Both.
'Public Port' should be 6667, and 'Schedule' should be Always.
Repeat for the remaining 3 ports. Good luck.

Alright, I did it all, and tried to host.
After some tests I determined that Wormnet is detecting my IP address just fine, but people just cant connect to my games. any ideas?

You shouldn't need to forward port 6667 since that's only for outgoing.
Port 17010, 17011 and 17012 are the incoming ports that are opened on your PC.

I'm stumped. Are you sure you're not running a software firewall of any sort, like Norton Internet Security?
If you are, you'll have to either turn it off, or give wwp.exe the appropriate access priviliges.

If you're not running anything of the sort, give me a shout on AIM/MSN: (SingularK/xkheldarx@sympatico.ca), and I'll see if I can't suss out what your problem is.
I added you to my MSN contacts, until then I will look for a possible firewall.
UPDATE::
-----------
My internet connection is through MSN / Qwest broadband, the hub they send you is said to make it impossible to host games. You go to any forum on the "Netdsl 1000" or "netdsl 800" and you willl see.
I am not sure if having a router would fix this/

I've made a little script which generates an registration file with your IP. Just klick on the link. An Window will pop up wehere you should use Open. You can make a shortcut on the desktop or anywehere...it is eaier as always changing the ip in the registry.
http://www.hinterkopf.net/wwp.php
Is this address force, just instead of entering the correct IP in the "my-ip-address" screen?
Does it do the same thing, or something different?
Thanks,
Don
Believer: Very nice. Thanks. :)
derway: There's a hidden registry option that enables you to override WWP's IP address detection. Without enabling this option through manual registry editing or using the provided registry file, the box in the Configuration menu does nothing.
Thanks Keldar.
It's funny, because without the registry hack, when you first enter wormnet, it detects the correct, outside, IP address.
But when you host a game, the clients that try to connect, get your local, non-routeable, IP.
It seems that you have to have the "my-ip address" correct, as well as doing the registry hack.
So, what does "enable firewall support" do? What sort of proxy, can it use? Can you just give it the local network gateway, (i.e. the router)? or something like that?
Don

Thank you!!! I bought my WWP CD 6 months ago and gave up on hosting a game. I just logged in today and found your post and it worked!
I think the big difference was that you said to set the protocol to 'Both', I hadn't tried this before. By accident I used port 6677 but it still works. The other ports I used are: 80, 17010, 17011, 17012
Thanks again! Now I can play with my friends and introduce them to The Concrete Donkey!

how the heck do you look at your ports :D
OK, So check it out. I have a Netgear 54Mbps wireless router WGR614. The way my network is set up is like this. I have 2 computers on a network, one is wired directly to the router on port 1, the other computer is set up via wireless. The wireless computer used to be the only one that could host a game through TCP/IP, but now neither computer can host. Well they can start a server both computers can connect to either one. The only problem is once both computer click the light bulb button (the ready button) the blue check mark to start server won't light up. So if there is any advice any can give me that would mean a lot to me. I've been trying figure this out for about the past month or 2 :(
Ok, i forwarded the ports, did the registery hack, but it doesn't work, look at my attached picture....

heres what the new ones look like
you just need to make sure you enter the correct ip address that your machine is running. ie mine is 192.168.1.101 maybe yours is 102 or whatever. than in worment, you need to enter your correct Ip address and click the force ip box. to find your ipaddress you can search google for "what is my ip"

Talk to your network administrator. MikroTik appears to be a rather complicated commercial product that I'd advise you not to tinker with unless you know exactly what you're doing.

Hi, I have a linksys wireless-B router 802.11b and i was wondering how to forward ports 17010, 17011, and 17012 to my computer network address(is the computers internal and external network address the broadband IP address or the routers?). And the 6667 port thing where does that go. I know how to find the IP but when my router is hooked up and i go to what is my IP it says different then when my pipeline broadband is hooked up to the computer. Here's what I THINK MIGHT BE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE (because I could be in wrong menu)....It is the same picture as on page one last part in the blue (application and gaming) that is what mine looks like, but you only have one port filled out I thought there was 3 ports. And does that port 6667 go in the configuration of wormnet while you're about to click worm net you click configuration and that's where 6667 goes? And if not then where? (I'm sorry i'm not good with all this computer lingo....I know some but not with this router lol). Thanks for any help. And yes it is covered in the port forwarding.
NEVERMIND GUYS I LOOKED AT THE PICTURE I TALKED ABOUT ABOVE AND IT HELPED A WHOLE BUNCH YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST THANKS.

1. he meant the website you posted "www.command.com"
command.com is not a website
2. the IP Address is the address of your computer (internal i think)
the default gateway is the IP address of the router

Tester1,
It may seem simply but I have tried all your suggestions before even posted in this thread amd nothing works! :(
After some research and uncontable tries here is the short answer!
WWP needs at least a little patch to fix those annoying "I can't host" problems! (Just kiding =P)
Go to blamethepixel and grab wwplaunch. Now everytime you want to play and host on wormnet, do not run wwp.exe, run wwplaunch.exe instead (click OK when you run it). It auto-overrides your IP without needing to edit anything in you registry. Also, you do not need to foward ports 17010-17012, just foward 17011 and you are set (this is also true for hosting in WA).
PS: If you are still felling that nobody is able to join your game, don't worry, it may be just that people are not even trying to join your game.
Don't hesitate to read the readme that comes with it.

i'm sorry.. i have opened this ports..
17010 TCP-UDP
17011 TCP-UDP
17012 TCP-UDP
and i can't host..... why???
Did you just open the ports?
You need to do the registry hack as well to force it to use your external IP address.
Kheldar is right,
read the Help-Page completely and dont forget that Worms has to know your Internet / External IP.
Because if only the doors are open and the one who will give a Party tells everyone the wrong address will only have a one man party because nobody will come.
Therefore you can edit some Registry keys by yourself. (find the IPOverride key and set the value from 0 to 1 and then find the IP key and enter your current Internet / External IP) or you just download a tiny program which will do that for you. (e.g. my "MIPO" or "WormsIPOverride")
Then you have to start the game not by using the Desktop shortcut but using the "MIPO" or "WormsIPOverride" Program.
Sincerely Franz Meier / Tester1

Thank You

Is Worms definatly allowed through norton? It needs to be able to act as a server.
Hi, kodomo. I think I can help you with your problem.
First, make sure you have the right internal ip address, using Run>CMD>IPCONFIG.
Second, make sure you have the ports set to both UDP and TCP.
(You shouldn't need the "Server in uscita" port forwardings, just the "Server in ingresso")
Third, make sure that the worms port forwardings have "Utenti WAN" set to "Any".
Fourth, make sure you have the right external ip address from www.whatismyip.com
If that doesn't work... post here again, and I'll see what I can do.

Alright, I forwarded all the ports correctly. Applied registry hack. Manually checked that it worked (the hack). My game shows in the game room- if someone clicks it uses the correct ip (not 192.xxx.x.x). They just cannot join. Why? Can anyone help?

The Problem seems to be the way to your PC I think. That means that if the IP is not the local one if someone wants to join your game, you have done the first step.
The second step is the way to you.
The packets can now (with the correct IP) reach your router.
Then the router (if the ports are mapped) will pass through the packets to you local PC IP.
The last possible step I think is the Firewall of your PC.
If you set the firewall to let the packets come in (finally to the game) it schould work.
Sincerely Tester1

hey, i've forwarded ports 80 6677 17010 17011 17012 in the NAPT section of my alcatel speedtouch thompson router. i've set the address override to "1" and set my local IP to my external IP. and entered it in the IP options on WWP. and i've allowed WWP on the firewall on the internet hosts computer, and set it to accept router requests. i have given up, i deleted the forwarded ports. but i will add them back if someone can tell me a surefire way to get my hosting going.
When forwarding ports on your router, did you tell it to forward them to the internal (LAN) IP of the computer you're using to host ?
XXXWoody
28 Nov 2006, 22:17
how u forward them to internal LAN IP part?
When you "forward" ports, you have to forward the data transiting through them, from one place to another ; The one place being the reception point at your router, the other place being the computer you are using to host worms games.
So, basically, when forwarding ports on your router, you have to specify to which computer (usually designated by its IP address) you will have to forward the data.
XXXWoody
30 Nov 2006, 01:21
do u have to forward some as udp, and some as tcp for ports (80, 6677, 17010, 17011, and 17012) ???
80, 6677 and 17011 on TCP
17010 and 17012 as UDP.
But usually, only 17011 is required, since the others are only used for outgoing messages.
XXXWoody
30 Nov 2006, 21:28
so the inside IP should be my hosting computers IP, and the outside should be 0.0.0.0??

Still a useful thread, years after it was first created. Great to see the internet has its uses. I spent about 20 minutes looking through google before I came to this thread and after that it was relatively smooth sailing.
It's just a shame that it's necessary to apply registry hacks for a game to work properly.

hi guys, is this how-to only important for the host, or also for the client?
I noticed that i can connect to some hosts, but while tryin to connect other ones the countdown appears but connecting is not possible.
is there a solution also for this one or does it depend on the host?
it depends on the host... only be worried if you cant connect to "any" host....

Yes that seems to be your Problem.
At firyst the people who want to play with you have to know the address
where your router can be found. (thats the external-IP)
Now they can get to your router but the router dont know what it has to do
with this incomming data packets on port 17010, 17011 and 17012. So the
router will just drop them.
If you now tell your router to give all incomming data packets on this ports
to your worms-PC you will finally be able to host.
(thats called "port forwarding" or "port mapping")
You need 2 IPs:
- your external-IP <= thats the one from http://checkip.dyndns.org/
e.g. 123.45.67.89
- your worms-PC-IP <= this one you can read if you open a
"DOS-shell" or "command-shell" and then type "ipconfig /all"
e.g. 192.168.0.2
and 3 rules inside your router setup:
- send (everything incomming on port 17010) to (192.168.0.2 port 17010)
- send (everything incomming on port 17011) to (192.168.0.2 port 17011)
- send (everything incomming on port 17012) to (192.168.0.2 port 17012)
and maybe a tiny tool to tell worms the correct external-IP:
- sometimes worms is a bit stupid and cant find out the correct current
external-IP
- therefore you can use a tiny freeware program from my homepage
called "mipo" (http://wormshelp.tk/)
- you can find it inside the "direct connection help" or inside the
"indirect connection help"
If you setup everything right then thats the way of data:
- you are inside worms and you host a game
that means that you tell the gameserver whats your external IP
(123.45.67.89)
- someone tries to join your game and gets the information that your
external-IP is 123.45.67.89 now the data can travel to your router
- the router gets the data on port 17010 looks after rules for this port
and find one rule which is telling to send all data from port 17010 to your
local worms-PC-IP (192.168.0.2) on port 17010
- now finally the data reaches you worms-PC and you can host

one by one.

Hi
I can host on my wireless network, but none of the other computers on my LAN can join my game.
What do I need to do on the other computers on my Wireless LAN so they can join my hosted games??
Many Thanks :D

you dont have a router then plainplain.A cable modem is a router.
Now I can't host all of a sudden.
I will try port fowarding to see if that will fix the problem.

try disconnecting from the internet then disabling the firewall on all the computers and see if it works.
I don't find the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team17SoftwareLTD\
key.
Please help.
reinstall the game and that key should be there.

When I renamed the attached file to ".reg", it didn't do anything. Did I do something wrong?

Sorry for the double post, but I just wanted to bump the thread to help answer my question.
did you run the file after renaming it? if yes then it has done its job and you need not worry about that file anymore.

How would I run it if it's a text file?
you rename it to nameoffile.REG then execute the registry file. (rename it from nameoffile.TXT)

So... i already tried everything, but i just can't host :(...
My Router Setup:
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/6239/routersetupfk2.png
Windows Firewall: Disabled
Kaspersky Firewall: Minimal (Only Blacklisted will be blocked)
Adressoverride set to 1
My external IP set in Regedit and WWP Ingame.
Tried MIPO and IP Override 2.0.
All that things dont work, i still cant host..
So what can i do more?
im not sure, but you know for stuff like wwp, you could do 17011 - 17012 ? instead of 17011 - 17011 and 17012 - 17012 ?

Yeah, i did this too, but that makes no difference
of course it doesnt, it just makes your configuration page look cleaner. :P
Hey, I can't host either.
Ok I modified my local adress and adress overide.
I put the ports down correctly
and made my firewall allow worms
What am I doing wrong?

I have a new problem.
Despite that my port forwarding settings are all correct, and I have been able to host for quite a while, I suddenly can not host.
How could I resolve this?
Plainplane :)
check the IP the ports are forwarded to plainplain... the IP may have changed for some unknown reason.

This is so confusing, why is it so bloody hard to host games on here, why was it made this way just to host lol
I have a netgear DG834G router on AOL & I'm absolutely clueless what to do here, none of the guides make any sense & it's just a whole frustrating jargon process.
I looked on port forwading site but it's only info for Aremgeddon (Not worms world party which I have) thats on that site, so is no good.
Can anybosy help provide a good, easy & straight forward guide to setting this up please?
Thanks in advance, it's appreciated !

check the IP the ports are forwarded to plainplain... the IP may have changed for some unknown reason.I noticed that the computer's network ID has been constantly changing, so I set it up so it would port forward to all of the computers (there is a setting for each port for each game for each machine). This has allowed me to host when I play a different game on my other machine. Should I delete the settings that currently have no purpose?
