I have one old HP tower and two HP ZV5000 laptops (from 2004) and the original hard drives in all three have died of their own accord. I see a pattern appearing...

The first laptop's hard drive got bad sectors somehow and the second won't mount at all with anything. I can't remember what happened to the tower's.

Yeah, my current computer is a HP and the hard drive inside that died after about 4 months.
